EPG Auto-Test Tool Operation Guide


1. Prerequisites
Before you start, ensure that JRE 1.5 or above is installed. To check whether the correct JRE version is installed, open the Internet Options and then click Advanced. See the figure below. If you see the JRE installation message as shown in the following figure, then you can proceed to the following sections. Otherwise, download the JRE from Java website and then install it.

1. In the IE address bar, enter http://x.x.x.x:8080/epgtest and click Go. The login screen is displayed. See the following figure.

2. Enter the username and password of the SLCS to log in to the system. Note: It is recommended to user IE 8.0 or above. 3. After login, the following dialog clock is displayed. 4. After login, the home screen is displayed. See the following figure.

3. Mode Selection
Two modes are available for the tool: "STB Mode" and "Active Mode", which are applicable to different templates for different purposes. The default mode is STB Model. STB Model: suitable for HD and OSD templates. Some templates cannot be displayed in the IE mode and can only be displayed in the STB in order to complete recording; Active Mode: suitable for general definition templates that are JSP web pages that can be displayed in the IE.

The STB Model is applicable to all templates. However, the Active Model is more convenient to operate.

4. Performing Manual Testing in STB Model


1 In the "STB Model", enter the username, select an EPG and then click Login. User Password rules are as follows: No password is needed if SLCS serves as the management platform; Password is needed if the management platform is not SLCS.

2 After login, "Record" becomes available. An STB should be configured in order to perform the test. The user of the STB should be the same as the one entered on the auto-test tool login screen. <> All Rights reserved, No Spreading abroad without Permission of ZTE

3 Enter the IP address of the STGB and click "Record". If connecting the STB times out, try again. 4 After successfully connecting the STB, press "Set" on the STB remote controller and then click "Cancel". This ensures that the EPG that the STB logs in to is consitent as the one to be tested. 5 Perform manual test on the STB. The screen records some URL information. 6 Click "Stop" to stop recording.

5. Performing Manual Test in Active Mode

1 Switch to the "Active Model". Note: If you are using this mode for the first time, a plug-in installation prompt is displayed. Download the plug-in, install and then restart the IE. 2 In "Active Mode", enter the user name, select an EPG and then click Login. The password rules are the same as the "STB Model". 3 After login, the bottom part of the screen displays the template. Click "Record". 4 In the recording mode, you can perform operations using the mouse or click "Tab/Enter". 5 After the test is complete, click "Stop".

6. Performing Automatic Test (in STB Model and Active Model)


1 Process recorded URL addresses. Some URLs that correspond to blank pages will be automatically deleted at the background. You can also

delete some URLs that do not require testing. 2 Enter a batch of usernames and passwords that can be used for testing. The password rules are the same as manual testing. Note: All the usernames should belong to the same group and the same template, and are not bound to any STP or IP address. 3 Click "AutoTest". 4 After automatic testing is complete, click "Export" to export the test result.

7. Setting Log Level


1. Enter http://x.x.x.x:8080/epgtest/page/log/logmanager.jsp in the address bar of the IE and click Go.

2. Select the output level and then click Submit.

8. Cautions and Prerequisites


1 Add the IP addresses for the server of version publishing and all the clients in the IP segment management screen of the CDN portal. 2 Use IE 8.0. 3 Install JRE 1.5 or above. 4 Use the correct usernames and passwords. 5 The permissions of the testing users must be the same as the template. 6 The users cannot be bound to any STB or IP address. 7 No login channel should exist for any user. <> All Rights reserved, No Spreading abroad without Permission of ZTE

8 If the screen displays Server IP or time, exception may occur during the comparison which is inevitable in the tool. 9 If STB version is upgraded and log format changes, the tool may be incompatible and need to upgrade to later versions. 10 This tool does not support multiple windows. If more than one window is opened, some functions may not function properly, such as the

STB interaction function. 11 This tool does not support the emergency procedure.

9. FAQ
1 When switching to the "AutoTest" page, some recorded URLs are lost. Probable cause: Some URLs that correspond to blank pages will be automatically deleted at the background. 2 When switching to the "AutoTest" page, all recorded URLs are lost. Probable cause: The user does not re-log in to the STB; The STB user is not the user of the test tool login user; The pages of all recorded URLs are blank. 3 In STB Model, the IP address textbox for the STB is not displayed. Probable cause: JRE is not installed or JRE version is too low. 4 Plug-in is not displayed in Active Model.

Probable cause: IE security level is too high. Add the address of the tool to the trusted website list of the IE. 5 During comparison on a page, no EPG is correct. Probable cause: The manually tested EPG is not functioning properly, and all other EPGs are OK. EPG server IP address or time is displayed on the page. TVOD recording state or EPG changes due to time changes.
