Well, the weather has finally broke folks & spring fever is running rampant throughout the Mid Atlantic! This has been a long time comingsure wish the temps would stay this way all year roundwe are lovin it We hope that you all have gotten your bikes ready and they are all tuned up, geared up and ready to roll for the riding season. Youve got plenty of things to do as our calendar continues to fill with rides and events of all sorts. Whether you are staying local or taking a road trip to attend any of them, please be safe & sober when taking control of those handlebars. Its sad but true, that many people on four plus wheels are just not paying attention to whats going on around them on the road. Just 2 days ago within 5 miles of me, there were two motorcycle accidents in one day. Both were caused by vehicles pulling out in front of the motorcycles because they didnt see them.probably because they werent looking out for them. These werent reckless riders either. One of the riders, who was 52, a military Vet and family man, passed away from injuries sustained. It can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone. As the weather gets warmer, more and more bikes will be hitting the road so if youre out there, be extra careful & do all that you can to be seen & heard. I am a firm believer in loud pipes saves lives. If you dont have a good rumble to your bike, make sure that your horn works & that its plenty loud. With so many people continuing to talk on their cell phones & texting while driving, the number of wrecks caused by distracted driving have become staggering. Stay safe this riding season. The events of September 11, 2001 made all citizens aware of how precious our liberty is and grateful for the sacrifices of those in military service who defend our freedoms. Bikers participation in Rolling Thunder began primarily with Vietnam War veterans having a special focus on MIAs. The bikers assemble in an orderly manner eastbound along Fairfax Boulevard (Lee Highway) starting at Patriot Harley-Davidson and then with the help of Police motor squad units from Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax and Arlington County are escorted safely to the Pentagon staging area to join 400,000 other bikers for Rolling Thunder. Community Parade: The Ride of the Patriots to Rolling Thunder on Sunday (see the schedule) begins with a parade down Fairfax Boulevard and an Opening Ceremony that brings the community and the bikers together to recognize the significance of this day. U.S. SENATE ACTS TO STOP MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECKPOINTS Bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Senate to prohibit the use of federal funds in establishing motorcycle-only checkpoints. S.2078, the Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act, sponsored by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) on Wednesday, March 5th, and is similar to H.R. 1861, introduced last year in the U.S. House by Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI). The bill would prohibit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)from issuing grants to states to set up checkpoints where motorcycle riders are targeted by police to check that their vehicles meet state standards for noise, tire condition and other requirements, and are also checked for safety gear during the roadside checkpoints. Over the past few years, such roadblocks have been conducted in New York, Georgia, Virginia and Utah during large motorcycle rallies. The senators argue that these types of checkpoints are discriminatory and unnecessary since motorcycle riders are already subject to state registration, inspection, licensing and helmet laws and must stop at sobriety check points like all other drivers. One co-sponsor, Sen. Manchin, former governor of West Virginia, says the checkpoints are a waste of taxpayer funding that can have an adverse effect on states economies. Requiring bikers to drive through motorcycle-only checkpoints is not only an ineffective use of taxpayer dollars, but it also raises legitimate questions about discrimination against motorcyclists. In West Virginia, bikers travel near and far to drive on our winding roads and enjoy the beautiful scenery, which attracts tourism and helps boost both our local and state economies, Manchin said. As a Harley owner myself, I am pleased to work with my colleagues on this bipartisan legislation that simply would prohibit yet another senseless and unreasonable federal regulation which could harm states economies. The states of California, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Virginia have all passed legislation to bar such checkpoints. of mostly medical professionals emphasize that motorcyclist fatalities have nearly doubled since 2000, but ignore the fact that motorcycle registrations have likewise multiplied over the same time period. Members of Congress have written the CDC requesting that they back off from helmet propaganda, but the federal health agency feels justified in pursuing all preventable injuries. FURTHER EPA ACTIONS RESTRICT E15 FUEL Following passage of the Farm Bill, which hampers the availability of E15 (gasoline containing 15% ethanol) by restricting blender pumps necessary to dispense the fuel, as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys recent move to reduce for the first time the amount of ethanol required to be blended into U.S. gasoline supplies, two new EPA regulations are expected to further limit E15 availability. In action taken March 3rd, the EPA decided against adopting E15 as its standard test fuel, and in other regulatory action refused to waive E15 vapor pressure limits, which will effectively reduce its distribution to gas stations during summer months. Previously, the EPA approved E15 for use in cars and trucks built since 2001, but has not approved the fuel for use in any motorcycles or ATVs, and manufacturers have warned that E15 can damage engines and even inadvertent fueling can void warranties.
PENNSYLVANIA LIMITS MOTORCYCLE LEARNERS PERMITS State Representative Seth Grove introduced HB 892 in this session of the Pennsylvania State Legislature in an effort to curb the practice of serial permitting by novice riders in the state, and the bill was just signed by the Governor and becomes effective immediately. The new law restricts the number of times someone can reapply for a motorcycle learners permit to three times in a 5 year period. 2014 Virginia General Assembly Wrap Up March 13, 2014

The regular session of the Virginia General Assembly has concluded. We can of course expect a special session so that the two chambers can continue to fight over the budget and the impasse over Medicaid expansion. However, as that is a topic not specific to motorcycles or motorcyclists, I will not wade into those waters. Motorcyclists had a pretty good year in 2014. The Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists (VCOM) had three main issues going into this session, two of which have become law which will go into effect as of July 1st, 2014. If this were baseball we would be batting .667 and would qualify for the hall of fame. Yes Mr. OReilly that is called spin. This year Virginia will get a new classification of motor vehicle called an autocycle. Both HB 122 and its Senate companion SB 383 have been signed by the Governor. Under this new law, an autocycle is defined as a threewheeled motor vehicle that has a steering wheel, seating that does not require the operator to straddle or sit astride, and is manufactured to comply with federal safety requirements for motorcycles. The code also specifies that unless otherwise provided, an autocycle shall not be deemed to be a motorcycle. The reason for this legislation was the rise in popularity of three-wheeled cars such as the T-Rex and Elio which until now have been considered motorcycles due to having three wheels. The manufacturers of these vehicles do not want them to be considered automobiles because they would then have to meet the federal safety standards for automobiles. We motorcyclists do not want them to be motorcycles because they will unfairly distort our crash statistics. VCOM worked with Tanom, a company in Virginia which manufactures such vehicles, and with several state governmental agencies to create this new classification. This new classification satisfies all parties. Autocycles only have to meet the federal safety requirements for motorcycles so the manufactures are happy. Likewise, when these three wheeled cars are involved in a crash which results in an injury or fatality, they will not be considered motorcycle injuries or fatalities. I do not mean to sound indifferent about any injury or fatality, but the reality is that much of the laws that we see restricting motorcyclists are driven by crash data. If the government is going to use such data to pass laws aimed at us, we should demand that the data at least be accurate. The second bill to be signed by the Governor is HB 542 which concerns wearing masks in public. It is a felony to wear a mask in public in the Commonwealth of Virginia except under certain circumstances. This has historically been problematic for motorcyclists in Virginia who utilize cold weather gear, or who use a bandana to protect themselves from dust or sun. Many were being pulled over and told to remove the protective coverings. The code section now makes it clear that it is only a crime in Virginia to wear a mask in public with the intent to conceal ones identity. Covering ones face for the purpose of staying warm or to protect ones self from the elements will no longer put a motorcyclist at risk of facing prosecution. Despite support from motorcyclists across Virginia, the Committee defeated the measure on a 9-13 vote. Those who opposed the measure did so due to the fact that the bill made a traffic infraction a criminal offense without any change in the intent of the offender. We argued that the court would still have the power to find the offender guilty of a simple infraction if the evidence supported such a finding. We further explained that the main purposes of the bill was to force those who kill others on Virginia highways to come to court to answer for the charges, and to give courts more power to deal with such offenders appropriately. Despite our best efforts the measure failed. At least for now. VCOM will continue to monitor issues affecting motorcyclists in the Commonwealth. Greetings to all my friends! Sorry I stepped away from here for a while, but I had a lot going on with me, my family and the church. In the last few months, the church moved to another location. We are now located at 12114 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841. Also I was blessed with a beautiful little granddaughter, Emory Lynne. I still cant believe my baby boy, Ben, now has a baby girl. Now, they are working on a December wedding so there is lots of planning going on. Another blessing is in November, my daughter Katy, got married to her junior high sweetheart, Ryan. So as you can see, there has been a lot going on in my life this last few months! Wow, its April already! So glad to see the ugly weather go and the spring weather come in...we hope! With this month comes a very important Holiday, Easter. Easter always brings a bunch of mixed emotions with it. On one hand you feel pain and hurt for what the very friends of Jesus did to Him. These were people that He had known all His life. When I watched The Passion of the Christ it was very graphic in detail and some say that is the closest that we could ever see a crucifixion. But we still cannot feel the magnitude of what Jesus went through. This movie was only 90 or so minutes long, but the crucifixion was approximately 7 hours long. Thats the part they put Him on the cross and He hung there. This is not counting the hours He was in prison, being beat and standing in front of Pilate. We cant even begin to understand the pain that He went through. This makes me weep to think that He did this and went through all this for me! But, then comes the joy. Jesus died and was placed in a tomb, donated for Jesus by a man in the town. He laid in that cold tomb for 3 days. Then the stone started rumbling and slowly rolled away and behold, the tomb was empty! He had come back, just like He said He would! Now, I have the gift of eternal life!!! Halleluiah! This is the greatest act of LOVE anyone has shown to us, to so many! Jesus kept His promise. You know, theres another promise He is going to keep, too! He is coming back! The time is getting closer and closer. All the prophecies in the Bible has been fulfilled, its just a waiting game now. If He came back today, would you be ready? If you heard that trumpet start to blowing, would you go up to meet Him or would you be left behind. So many people think this is a joke, but I assure you, this is nothing to play with! None of us are promised tomorrow, our lives could end today... do you know where you would spend eternity? Do you know how to be sure? Let me tell you, get saved! Drop to your knees, look up to your Savior and tell Him that you are a sinner. Tell Him that you have tried to handle your life up to now and it did not work. Ask Him to forgive all of your sins and make you clean, then tell Him to
come and live inside your heart! Then just sit there and thank Him for His grace and for the blood that He shed on Calvary for YOU! Its really not a hard thing to do, but what you feel after you do it is amazing! What better time to give your heart to the Lord, then when He gave His life for you! It was Easter Sunday morning and the Preacher had already given sermon to the adults in the congregation. Now he was presenting a childrens sermon. He asked the children if they knew what the Resurrection was? In response to the question, Little Johnny raised his hand. The Priest called on him and the Little Johnny said; I know that if you have a resurrection that lasts more than four hours you are supposed to call the doctor. It took ten minutes for the congregation to settle down enough for the service to continue. I said to the wife, Get me a newspaper. Dont be silly, she said. Here, use my iPad. That damn spider never knew what hit it. This is the story of the blonde flying in a two-seater airplane with just the pilot. He has a heart attack and dies. She, frantic, calls out a May Day. May Day! May Day! Help me! Help me! My pilot had a heart attack and is dead. And I dont know how to fly. Help me! Please help me! Marriage Counselor After just a few years of marriage filled with constant bickering, the Kerry couple decided the only way to save their marriage was to try counseling. When they arrived at the counselors office, the counselor jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion. What seems to be the problem? Immediately, the husband held his long face down without anything to say. In contrast, the wife began talking 90 miles an hour, describing all the wrongs within their marriage. After 15 minutes of listening to the wife, the counselor went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her passionately and sat her back down. Afterwards, the wife sat speechless. The marriage counselor looked over at the husband, who stared in disbelief. The counselor said to the husband, Your wife NEEDS that at least twice a week! The husband scratched his head and replied, I can have her here on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lucille decided to give herself a big treat for her 70th birthday by staying overnight in a really nice hotel.. When she checked out the next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for $250.00. She demanded to know why the charge was so high I agree its a nice hotel, but the rooms arent worth $250..00 for just an overnight stay - I didnt even have breakfast! The clerk told her that $250.00 is the standard rate, and breakfast had been included had she wanted it. She insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and, forewarned by the desk clerk, announced: This hotel has an Olympicsized pool and a huge conference center which are available for use. But I didnt use them. Well, they are here, and you could have. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which they were so famous.We have the best entertainers from the world over performing here. But I didnt go to any of those shows.. Well, we have them, and you could have. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, But I didnt use it! and the Manager countered with his standard response. After several minutes discussion, and with the Manager still unmoved, she decided to pay, wrote a check and gave it to him. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the check. But Madam, this check is for only $50.00 Thats correct I charged you $200.00 for sleeping with me. But I didnt! Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have.

The Motorcycle Electrical System: Terminology
by Anthony Todd Electricity and wiring are among the most complicated systems on todays motorcycle. So what we thought wed do is attempt to shed some light on this potentially complex topic by defining some of the common terms used when dealing with electricity. These terms are basic Electrical 101 that youll hear whenever youre dealing with any motorcycle electrical system. Ampere The practical unit of electric current flow. If a one-ohm resistance is connected to a one-volt source, one ampere will flow. Circuit A complete path over which an electric current can flow. Circuit Breaker A device designed to open and close a circuit by non-automatic means and to open the circuit automatically on a predetermined over-current without injury to itself when properly applied within its rating. Circuit breakers can be reset. Coil An assemblage of successive convolutions of a conductor. A unit of a winding consisting of one or more insulated conductors connected in series and surrounded by common insulation, and arranged to link or produce magnetic flux. Current The movement of electrons through a conductor; measured in amperes, mill amperes, and microamperes. Diode A two-electrode electron tube containing an anode and a cathode. Diodes are used as rectifiers and detectors. Electromagnet A magnet produced by passing an electric current through an insulated wire conductor coiled around a core of soft iron, as in the fields of a dynamo or motor. Fuse A strip of wire or metal inserted in series with a circuit which, when it carries an excess of current over its rated capacity, will burn out. Also called a cutout.

Generator A general name given to a machine for transforming mechanical energy into electrical energy. Ground A conducting connection, whether intentional or accidental, between an electrical circuit or equipment and the earth, or to some conducting body that serves in place of the earth. Insulator A device for fastening and supporting a conductor. Glass and porcelain are employed almost universally for supporting overhead wires. Ohm The unit of electrical resistance. Resistance is one ohm when a DC voltage of one volt will send a current of one ampere through. Resistance The opposition offered by a substance or body to the passage through it of an electric current that converts electric energy into heat. Resistance is the reciprocal of conductance. Solenoid A spiral of conducting wire, wound cylindrically so that when an electric current passes through it, its turns are nearly equivalent to a succession of parallel circuits, and it acquires magnetic properties similar to those of a bar magnet. Volt The practical unit of electric pressure. It is the pressure that will produce a current of one ampere against a resistance of one ohm. There you have it. Weve defined some of the common electrical terms. Next time, in Part II of this series, well define and show you some of the common tools used when troubleshooting electrical issues on your motorcycle and give you basic tips on how to use these tools.

Who is Ron Stratman?

By Dennis Martin I met Ron RK Stratman about 10 years ago while attending numerous motorcycle events. I didnt know who he was or what he did for the motorcycle scene. When you have a conversation with him, you can tell he doesnt consider himself a famous person. Most people would just see an ordinary person that blends into a crowd of other motorcycle enthusiasts. Flip the collar tag over on that favorite shirt you bought at a Harley-Davidson dealership and more than likely you will find that his name is on your shirt. With a little research, you can find that he is the founder of the largest H-D shirt licensee business in the country. This interview and article was long overdue and Im honored that Ron took the time to talk with me. At 78, Ron is a proven lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and has been riding Harleys since he was 15 years old. His first motorcycle was a 1948 Harley Seventy-Four. He changed bikes many times over the years, but didnt buy a brand new bike until his 1977 XLR Sportster. He got it at Widman Motorcycles for $1995 and it is still in his garage. Since then, his motorcycle collection has grown, but that is for another article When Ron was growing up in Overland, MO his father worked at Glidden Paint Company on Gratiot Street in St. Louis, MO and earned his 30 year pin. In the 50s Ron, lied on a job application with the City of St. Charles, MO by saying he was 21 years old and he was only 15. They hired him and his job was to sweep the streets with a push broom behind a water truck. He would hang out at the City Club Tavern on main street in St. Charles with his co-workers. That was where he had his first beer. After that, he worked at Steak and Shake for a while, then as a house painter. By the 60s he was a painting contractor during the week and still racing on the weekends. In 1969, Ron had a local print shop make shirts for him. He sold the shirts out of the side of his van at racetracks in the pit areas, when he wasnt on the track racing Harley and BSA motorcycles. Once he figured out he wasnt any good at racing, he decided to focus on the shirt business and get out of the painting business. Being a painter he wasnt able to travel much and it was time for a change. So he bought a trailer to sell shirts from at local tracks like in Jerseyville and Granite City, Illinois. One of Rons favorite things to do was to see as many roadside tourist traps as possible. This would allow him to see the countryside. When I asked him about the worlds largest ball of string, he said, Ive been there... As with most parents, Rons mom and dad couldnt believe he planned
on traveling around the country selling shirts. Unfortunately, Rons father passed away before he saw the success of his shirt business. His mother just had her 100th birthday in October of 2013. As his own family grew, they were by his side selling shirts at the racetracks and was making good money. After doing this for a while, the local dealerships that came to the races would see his illegal Harley-Davidson shirts and told RK that his shirts were better than they could get from the corporation. After getting numerous dealerships on board, the business kept growing. Then in the early 80s Ron met with Charlie Thompson, President of the Harley-Davidson Motor Corporation, at the races. They discussed that H-D was going to start a licensee program. Charlie knew that Ron was the best the illegal guy printing the Bar & Shield on shirts. He decided it was best to have Ron on their side and to make him legal. By 1983, it was all in place. Rons daughter, Tammy, was the sparkplug of everything. Before she was a teenager, she worked side by side with the family selling merchandise outside the track while dad and her brother were racing on the track. They were selling shirts with images of the riders to the race fans. Tammy was the thrust of everything from the graphic designs on shirts, to setting up the business, and especially the contract negotiations in 1983 with the Harley-Davidson Motor Corporation. At that point, RK Stratman, Inc. became one of the twelve companies to supply licensed shirts to every dealership nationwide. The Harley-Davidson Corporate offices knew that by being able to control who makes the merchandise, they could improve the quality of the shirts on the market. That was when Ron directed all his focus on be-
coming the best licensee shirt company that H-D has ever seen. In August of 2004, Tammy lost her fight with cancer, but that spark has stayed with the company. In 1976, the business operated in downtown St. Louis at an AMVET Hall with a bowling alley. Carl Stratman, Rons son, remembers the first run of shirts was done in the bar and tavern part of the building and the bowling alley was lined with 60 long shelving. There was a trailer that the hall used as a cooler and they used to store all the screens for transferring the designs to the shirts. For the shipping department, they built an awning onto the building for UPS to pick up the boxes. As the business began to outgrow that building and the other buildings on the property, they brought in a few semi trailers and worked out of those for a few years. By 1986 it was time to move the business from downtown and out of the flood plain. Then in 1994, the business expanded to Wentzville, MO. By 1997, the facilities were consolidated to the Wentzville location within the building addition. Then in 2008 the Wentzville building was expanded again to 305,000 square feet (7 acres) under one roof. Also at this same time, the adjacent office building was purchased and is now the main office. Finally everything related to the business, was in one location. They have 3 major competitors in the H-D licensee business and RK Stratman is the biggest supplier. Since the beginning, the marketing strategy was the USA and 85% of the business sales are here with 15% overseas. To achieve global status, there are key international representatives working hard to make the RK Stratman name known everywhere and this market continues to grow. It is good to see cont. next page
an American business shipping products overseas. With the building expansions mentioned above, this growth doesnt affect the customer service of the clients here in the USA. As a matter of fact, there is a growing number of the clients that only purchase shirts from RK Stratman because they trust their product. At the time of the interview, Martha, Rons wife, was conducting meetings halfway around the world. Im sure she has some great stories on that trip. Ron is a father of seven, a grandfather of twelve, and a great-grandfather of four. He still comes to work and keeps connected to his customers with phone calls and traveling to meetings. He has always been a hands on part of the company. Although he says he doesnt do much, his desk is covered with paperwork He admits there are about 20 computers in the main office, but he doesnt know how to turn on any of them. Money is not important to Ron, but making sure that RK Stratman is a successful business and continues to have . Also important is a Harley to ride and good dinners. Ron continues to dedicate his time to find the best quality product and machinery to make sure they are above the rest. As you can see, RK Stratman is a family business. Rons kids and grandkids are working there, but no great grandkids yet There are no loafers in the family. The family members have worked in every part of the company to ensure the companys future will run smoothly for generations to come. The family as well as the entire staff are all hard workers and take on a lot of responsibilities. With over 250 people working 2 shifts, the art department creates some of the finest designs and the production facility typically creates 85,000 shirts per week. Rons accomplishments over the years are extensive. Recent mile markers were in 2012, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. His artwork designs for the Sturgis Rally are the most recognized images of the rally. I guess riding the buffalo bike down Main Street in 1991, caught a lot of attention. Also in 2012, he was inducted into the Hanes Beefy-T T-shirt Hall of Fame. One accomplishment that is on his bucket list, is at age 80, he wants to ride to Fairbanks, Alaska and back. He has rode to Anchorage in the past, but he wants to push it a little further next time around. Rons granddaughter, Katie, visited us during the interview. She loves hearing the old stories of the racing days. Katies dad was also a racer and she remembers those days very well, especially getting her own trailer to sell novelty items. Ron would make sure someone would take over her trailer so she could watch the final races. In closing, I was overwhelmed with how personable everyone at the facility was with me.
Perhaps that was because Ron was giving me the nickel tour. The huge building houses the sales, warehouse, production and shipping departments and if you have never seen one building cover 7 acres, it is incredible. Ron made me feel like family while I was there and I certainly want to do a another article about his collection of motorcycles. We will wait for warmer weather for that project I want to thank Ron and the staff for the time they took to speak with me.

Robe A Dope: Listen, we all know how nice it is staying in a fancy hotel on vacation and wearing a robe around the whole time, but the vacation is over people. That robe-everywhere attitude is not the appropriate souvenir to bring back with you. Back to reality folks.
The 2014 Batmobile: Man, it looks like Bruce Wayne took a seriously hit in this economy. Guess the 1% isnt untouchable huh? Woof, I hope Im not in danger anytime soon because Im not even sure that can make it up a steep hill.
Swag To Brag: Okay, looks like weve got ourselves a little throw down of coolness between two senior citizens. Who ya got folks? Mr. Universe or Mr. YOLO Swag?
The Walmart Train: I know a lot of you are getting hit with another wonderful winter storm so remember to travel safe while youre out there. Bundle up those babies when youre on your tractor ride and remember to face their head upwind from the second-hand cigarette smoke and tractor fumes.

TIMONIUM BIKE SHOW DODGES BIG STORM
TIMONIUM, MD. - The Timonium Motorcycle Show dodges two big snow storms to pull off another great event for east coast two wheel enthusiasts suffering from cabin fever! Celebrity Bike builder, Paul Teutul, Sr., the star of Discovery Channels 10 year run of the American Chopper series and now staring on CMT Channels new Biker Series Orange County Choppers, headed up the Shows Feature Area! Senior and
his crew brought along many of their famous TV builds. Paul signed autographs and took photos with hundreds and hundreds of his adoring fans said Show promoter Rich Kohles. Other well-known bike builders at the show included, Copper Mike of Gravesend Cycles, Jeff Kessel of Independent Cycle East, Tim Whitmore of Eastern Performance, Mike Lewis of Severe Cycles, Brian Kundratic of Kundratic Kustoms, Jerry Tully of Custom Cycle, Roy
Chamberlain of C & C Cycles, Rick Beauregard of Cyclone Cycles, Paul Finn of Iron Works Cycles, Kevin Hengerle of Midnight Reign Cyclewerx and other regional builders. The record crowd could also check out everything new the 2014 motorcycle manufacturing industry had to offer from the United States, Europe and Asia, including BMW, Triumph, Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Polaris, Indian, Boss Hoss, Kymco, Can-Am, Victory, Harley Davidson and more! On Friday evening, the south end of the Timonium Motorcycle Show transformed into a beautiful wedding chapel as Jimmy and Sandra took their vows in front of family, friends and fellow bikers. I was so happy for them that I couldnt stop tearing up said Jackie Albertson, Vendor Coordinator. Then there was the exciting Biker Build-Off in the Exhibition Hall that drew thousands of attendees to watch the action and vote for their favorite build. Rick Beauregard owner of Cyclone Cycles from Richford, Vermont won the Peoples Choice trophy and the $1,000 cash prize! Two local rock stations, 98 Rock and The Bay 100.7, broadcasted live for four hours Friday afternoon. Amelia of 98 Rock, a biker with a cool
custom ride of her own, interviewed local bikers and vendors during her popular radio show. Then 98 Rocks Justin hosted the Leather & Lace Valentine Show, The Bikers and Babes Newlywed Game, Tattoo Contest and Crazy Adult Games on the North Stage. Over 125 motorcycles entered the Custom and Antique Bike Competition from all over the Eastern United States. The reason we continue to attract so many awesome bike entries is the quality and experience of our judges, the amount of time we take to inspect each bike, fairness and honesty during the 26 hour judging process, said Bike Competition Coordinator, Lisa Shackelford. Judges this year included: Fabricator Kevin, from Michigan, Joey Cihak, from Florida, Jimmy Doyle from Texas and Lou Ontiberoz also from Florida. Motorcycle sweetheart Michele Smith presided over the Custom & Antique Bike Competition Awards Ceremony that was held the last half hour of the show. Thousands of dollars in award money was given out along with awesome trophies. Check out photos of many of the winners and their cool bikes at cycleshow.net. Action on the Live stage was nonstop this year, said Media Director, Charlotte Pleines. My favorite was hosting the International Bikini Team Regional Finals where the winner will be sent to Sturgis this summer to compete in the World Finals. Other
events on the stage included the introduction of the new Harley Davidson 750, the Cutest Biker Baby Contest, the hilarious Frozen T-Shirt Contest and much more...there was never a dull moment! Lowside Magazines exhibits, covering the fast growing garage-built vintage motorcycle culturefeaturing caf racers, choppers, drag bikes, bobbers, rat bikes and more, were another big hit this year! There was also an adjoining SWAPMEET with used bikes, parts, motorcycle photography and artwork which attracted a huge crowd of bike renovation enthusiasts. Last, but not least, there were hundreds of vendors selling every possible bike accessory and riding gear apparel that the motorcycle aftermarket industry had to offer, for On and Off-Road racing, riding, cruising, touring, and extreme competition. The root of the ginger plant is not only valued for its flavor but also its healing qualities. It is most recognized for its ability to treat digestive complaints such as nausea, dizziness, indigestion and flatulence. Research has shown that some chemicals in ginger, such as gingerols and shogaols, increase digestive juices and neutralize stomach acids. This can provide relief for a host of conditions including motion sickness, post-operative nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy (do not use for morning sickness, though). In fact, powdered ginger may be a more effective anti-nausea treatment than some commercial medications, without the drowsy side effects. This spice can be eaten fresh from the root, consumed as a tea, eaten as crystallized candy, rubbed on as oil or taken in capsule or tablet form.
