Congratulations on your acceptance to Brown! We could not be more excited to have you here for A Day On College Hill (ADOCH), which we have been planning for you since September. Over the next couple of days, we hope to give you an idea of what it is like to be a student at Brown and a sense of why we are consistently ranked among the happiest schools in the nation! You will have the opportunity to attend classes, talk to current Brown students about their experiences, take part in panel discussions, be entertained by Browns talented student groups and of course, get to know many of your future classmates. This event is primarily designed for you as an admitted student, but it is also an opportunity for your parents and families to experience Brown. PARKING
College Hill has many narrow New England streets, which are not conducive to parking large numbers of vehicles. The following parking options are available: Power Street Garage: 101 Power Street. Limited free parking available on the upper level from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitor Parking Lot: Brook Street behind Minden Hall (southeast corner of Brook Street and Waterman Street). Limited paid spots available for $3.00/hour or $15.00 all day. Street Parking: Visitors may find metered street parking on and around campus, which costs 25 cents for every 12 minutes. Please pay close attention to signs marking Brown-specific spacesthese are reserved for Brown employees only. Please do not park in these spaces. Cars parked in these spaces without a Brown University parking permit may be towed at the owners expense.

Professor Meera Viswanathan Alumnae Hall During this hour, we will explore a poem that is one of the most well-known poems worldwide and certainly among the most often quoted and translated. Surprisingly, far from being spectacular, it is a verse that assumes the guise of the drab, the simple, the quotidian. What does it mean for the ordinary to be extraordinary? We will have a chance to examine this work in the context of literary form and religious, historical, and cultural backgrounds as well as through translation, both of others and our own.
