Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to review the language taught previously and to introduce
and practice new vocabulary related to sports.
Aims :
to recycle the language taught previously
to practice vocabulary related to the topic
to enable the students to use expressions such as I like / I can

to practice their speaking/ writing/reading and listening
skills
to consolidate the target language making up a poster,
working in groups, singing English songs
to stimulate Sts imagination and creativity
to give Sts confidence in their ability to use the English
language
to end the lesson in a fun atmosphere
Time: 50 min.
methods and procedures: ice-breaking, conversation,
brainstorming, explanation, dialogues, listen-and-do
activities, role-play, singing and miming, making up a poster
materials and equipment: handouts, flashcards, worksheets,
markers, scissors, glue, 4 large drawing boards , P.C. , video
projector, audio cassettes, CD player
organization: class work, pair work, individual work, group work
Anticipated problems :
If Sts do not understand the oral commands or the task, they will be translated into
Romanian. But, the mother tongue can only be spoken if a St has a question to ask the teacher that
he/she cannot explain in English.

ACTIVITY 1 : WARM-UP
AIMS :
to get things started, wake up tired Sts and prepare brains, mouths, ears and eyes for English
to recycle the language taught previously
to generate interest, to make pupils relax

PROCEDURE

- Sts are asked and ask each other different questions
about themselves (name, age, state of health, favourite
toy, pets..)
-Sts sing a song to establish a relaxed, anxiety-free
atmosphere in the classroom.
-T asks Sts about the way they spend their spare time.

Lets move to the music! (ACTIVITY RAP):
Hello, again and its time to listen and move to the

ACTIVITY 2: CHECKING AND PRACTICE THE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
AIM:
to revise and practice vocabulary related to sports

-T shows Sts a PPT about sports. Sts watch and repeat.
They also receive some handouts and flashcards with new
words. They point and repeat after T:

ACTIVITY 3: LEAD IN
AIMS:
to get Sts into the new topic
to practice their speaking / listening skills
to give Sts confidence in their ability to use the English language

ACTIVITY 4: PRACTICE and REINFORCEMENT
AIMS:
to practice their speaking and writing skills
to build confidence
to practice and consolidate the target language by making up a poster
to stimulate Sts imagination and creativity
to enable the Sts to use expressions such as I like/ I can..

APPLICATION 1. INDIVIDUAL WORK
What sports equipment do we need?
Sts receive a worksheet. They have to match the sports
equipment on the right to kind of sports on the left.

Sts open their books at page 98, ex 2. d). In pairs, they
have to tick a), b) or c) to show the correct meaning.

APPLICATION 3. GROUP WORK
-T devides the class into groups of 4.
-Each group will receive a large white sheet of paper (A5),
a sheet of sports symbols / images and an envelope with
happy / sad faces made by paper.
-T explains the task. Sts have to write down their names
and to cut out the symbols/ images. After that they stick
them on the large sheet.
-T models the task providing a visual aids. As they work in
groups they listen to Its a beautiful life (Ace of Base)

-When the Sts have finished writing their names and
sticking all the symbols, they come in front of the
classroom and talk about sports they like / dont like, or
can/ cant do.

HOMEWORK:
T. assigns the homework by giving clear instructions:
On a white sheet of paper write a short paragraph about
a sport you know well. Do not name the sport. On the
other side of the paper, draw this sport.
Next English lesson, read your paragraph to the pupils.
Can they guess the sports you are talking about? If not,
show them your draw.
ASSESSMENT:
T. appreciates the Sts that were active during the entire
lesson and give advices to the less active ones.
All Sts will get a GREAT WORK diploma.
