Training group description (350-450 words; complete during Peer Assessment 1 and revise as necessary during subsequent stages):
This is a training that is sponsored by a US-based non-governmental organization that has partnered with the Nigerian Ministry of Health to decrease the burden of malaria in a rural district. This program already uses community health workers to distribute ivermectin and mosquito bednets. These CHWs focus on a defined catchment area of several clinics, each of which serves about twenty hamlets. There are one or two CHWs currently assigned to each hamlet, so there are about 25 to 30 trainees per clinic. At one clinic, malaria treatment rates have been low, and this is of concern to the Ministry of Health. As a result, the Ministry has directed that CHWs must begin providing testing and treatment by using rapid diagnostic tests and artemisinin-based combination therapy. This is an additional set of responsibilities that the CHWs have not been assigned before. Since CHWs already meet regularly for monthly supervision meetings at the clinic, supervisors will incorporate the training at the next monthly meeting. It is important for at least one CHW from each hamlet to receive this training, so the CHWs were alerted at the last meeting that attendance at the upcoming would be mandatory. Any CHWs who do not attend will be required to attend a make-up session.

SMART Objective (complete during Peer Assessment 1 and revise as necessary during subsequent stages):
By the end of the session the CHWs will demonstrate the appropriate steps for managing a suspected case of malaria in their hamlet.
