Moorestown Council covered
many topics at the meeting on
April 7, including repairs that
need to take place across town in
the next year.
There are a number of proj-
ects that require some planning
and engineering, Township
Manager Scott Carew said.
Road repair, drainage work and
recreation work, such as refur-
bishment to the Jeff Young Hock-
ey Rink, were mentioned as
needing engineering by Carew.
How council would appropri-
ate funds for the projects was not
finalized, or discussed in detail,
except that the projects will be in-
cluded in the next capital budget.
There was, however, a short
discussion about the council pos-
sibly using surplus money to
fund projects in the next year. It
seemed that the general consen-
sus to use the surplus was not a

Four candidates on ballot
By L. HABER
The Sun
Though elections are not until
November, the arrival of spring
brings new political opportunity
to Moorestown in the form of
fresh candidates running for
Moorestown Town Council.
Democrats Elizabeth Endres
and Edmond M. George will be
running, along with Republicans
Stacey Jordan and Manny Delga-
do for the two open seats on coun-
cil. The deadline to file for the pri-
mary election, which will be held
on June 3, was March 31.
While Jordan currently sits as
the deputy mayor on the council,
other candidates have less politi-
cal experience, but just as much
passion for their platforms.
Endres is currently a teacher
who comes from a highly educat-
ed background of science and en-
vironmental affairs. Endres
wants to show the community in
that she and her family have been
a part of since 1995 that she is
ready for candidacy, despite never
appearing on council before.
George has served on the
Moorestown Economic Develop-
ment Advisory Committee, and is
a lawyer.
After Mayor Chris Chiacchio
recently announced that he will
not be running for re-election, the
Moorestown Republican Munici-
pal Committee endorsed Jordan
and Delgado.
When asked about why he de-
cided not to run for re-election,
Chiacchios answer was simple.
Im not running for the rea-
sons that I have a young, growing
family, and I want to concentrate
my time and focus on them, Chi-
acchio said. I just feel its time to
move on.
Jordan has served not only as
deputy mayor, but also as mayor.
Much like Endres, Jordan has en-
vironmental development experi-
ence. She had served as the coun-
cil liaison to the Economic Devel-
opment Advisory Committee and
the Tree Planting and Preserva-
tion Committee.
Delgado has years of volunteer
experience, especially as the exec-
utive director of the nonprofit
Cramer Hill Community Develop-
ment Corporation in Camden,
which helps Camden residents
find housing, leadership and civic
engagement opportunities.
Delgado is also a member of
the Moorestown Planning Board,
is a baseball, basketball and foot-
ball coach in town, and is in-
volved in numerous other civic
and charitable activities.
The Moorestown council elec-
tion will be held on Tuesday, Nov.

positive one.
A lot of whats in our surplus
now is not a sustainable revenue
source if there are any proj-
ects, I think its smarter to capi-
talize them, rather than use the
surplus, Carew said.
Councilman Greg Newcomer
brought a new topic to the atten-
tion of the audience and fellow
council members. The idea came
from a recently published article
mentioning the possibility of
using propane in township vehi-
cles.
Ive got an article here, and it
talks about how a town not in this
state, I have to admit, that went to
propane for all of their vehicles,
was saving an enormous amount
of money, Newcomer said.
Most council members did not
comment on the idea of switching
to propone in vehicles used by the
township, though Carew brought
up an interesting point about how
little a switch such as that one
may change the budget in the
short-term.
The idea about saving money
for vehicles I think thats a
long, hard look that will probably
be of minimal impact to this
years budget, Carew said.
A major portion of the overall
council discussion surrounded
an issue that is not so new, and
one that will also affect next
years budget, among other fac-
tors.
The council debated about
where to move the Moorestown
court officials, as it has at many
prior meetings.
I even suggested moving into
the library, the existing library,
Deputy Mayor Stacy Jordan said.
But that wasnt an option either
much more costly ... having
them in the police station makes
sense.
The other members of council
agreed that using the current li-
brary, after the new library and
town hall open in May, would not
make as much sense as moving
just the administrative court staff
to work with police at police head-
quarters.
There was no explanation re-
garding why the new town hall
and library were not built to
equip the court staff, which cur-
rently rent space in Cinnamin-
son.
Its not a new topic there is
no room in the new town hall
the court personnel are going to
move to the police headquarters,
Carew said.
Even moving into police head-
quarters would cost money, as the
council described that renova-
tions will have to be made to a
records vault and other areas to
make more room for the court ad-
ministrative staff and their
records.
The estimated cost of moving,
fixing and finalizing the new
court staff location in
Moorestown was said to be
$60,000. The group decided to
complete the construction of a
vestibule, administrative area
with bullet-proof glass and an
ATM with Ragan Design Group.
The upside to moving
Moorestown administrative court
officials to town is the township
will no longer be paying rent to
Cinnaminson for housing its ad-
ministrative workers, who help
collect debts and manage court
records, among other tasks.
The next two council meetings
are scheduled for April 28 and
May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Moorestown High School IT
room.

tennis scores
On Friday, April 4, the
Moorestown boys tennis team de-
feated Pemberton High School 5-
0. Tyler Blessing, Marc Mounzer
and David Blatcher won singles
matches for the Quakers while
doubles teams Alex Epstein and
Jon Lewis as well as Wes Bobadil-
la and John Matthews won their
respective matches.
On Saturday, April 5, the boys
tennis team of Montgomery High
School defeated Moorestown
High School 5-0. Tyler Blessing,
Marc Mounzer and David Blatch-
er competed in singles matches
for the Quakers as well as doubles
teams made up of Alex Epstein,
Jon Lewis, Wes Bobadilla and
John Matthews.
On Tuesday, April 8, the
Moorestown High School boys
tennis team defeated Holy Cross
High School 5-0. Tyler Blessing,
Marc Mounzer and David Blatch-
er won singles matches for the
Quakers while doubles teams
Alex Epstein and Jon Lewis as
well as Ryan Zimmer and John
Matthews won their respective
matches.
The wins pushed the Quakers
record to 5-2.
The eighth-grade Southeastern
Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse As-
sociation A1 team opened up its
regular season at home on Satur-
day, April 5 by beating Con-
shohocken by a score of 7-3.
It was a great team win for the
boys with solid goalie play from
Max Blank, a swarming defense
anchored by Bobby Garrison,
Judah Hicks and Justin Ramos
and an efficient offense. Goals
were scored by Peter LaDelfa,
Kevin Travis, Trevor Jones, Josh
Buck, Ryan Pozega and Josh Fau-
vell posted two with six of the
seven goals being assisted. Coach-
es Andy Hipple and Doug Inger-
soll issued a game ball to Josh
Buck for dominating the face offs
giving the team possession after
possession and chipping in with a
pretty goal.
The boys returned to action
again on Sunday, April 6 when
they went to Ridley and came
home with a great 8-3 victory and
started the season 2-0 in league
play.
Ridley had beaten the boys in a
close preseason scrimmage but
Sunday would be different. Ridley
tried to intimidate with big physi-
cal play but our quick ball move-
ment and unselfish team play
proved to be too much for them to
handle. Goals were scored by
Dante Lucarini, Dan Rohrbach,
Stephen Goralski, Fauvell, Poze-
ga with LaDelfa posting three in
the first half. Six of the seven
goals were assisted and game
balls went to LaDelfa for record-
ing three goals and four assists
and Blank for coming up big be-
tween the pipes.

The Moorestown Police Department will
be hosting a prescription and over the
counter medicine disposal site as part of
the 2014 DEA Operation Take Back NJ
initiative.
The medicine turn-in will take place on
Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will take place in the front
parking lot of the police department, at
1245 N. Church St., Suite 2.
Residents may dispose of medication ei-
ther in its original container, or by remov-
ing medication from its container and dis-
posing directly into the drug disposal box.
If the original container is submitted, resi-
dents are encouraged to remove the pre-
scription label if it contains any personal
identifying information.
Liquid products, such as cough medi-
cine, should remain sealed in the original
containers. The depositor should ensure
that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent
leakage. Syringes and other sharp instru-
ments will not be accepted.
The mission of the Drug Enforcement
Administration of New Jersey Division
Operation Take Back NJ is to provide a
safe and legal method for the citizens of
New Jersey to dispose of their unwanted,
unused, and expired medicines.
T
he old saying is that numbers
dont lie. Numbers are what
they are; interpret them how
you will.
Here are a few for you to ponder:
Five: How many of Atlantic Citys
11 casinos lost money on an operating
basis for the first nine months of the
fiscal year, through September
One: How many Atlantic City casi-
nos went out of business this year
the Atlantic Club plus one more
Revel which is up for sale following
bankruptcy
$10.3 million: The amount of rev-
enue from online wagering in New
Jersey in February, on pace for $123.6
million for the year, well short of Gov.
Christies original $1 billion forecast.
$12 million: The estimated tax rev-
enue from internet gambling through
the end of the fiscal year in June, com-
pared to the forecast of $160 million
$235 million: The amount of gam-
bling revenue brought in by AC casi-
nos last year, a 35 percent drop from
2012, a year that included a casino
shutdown due to Hurricane Sandy
39: The number of states that offer
casino gambling, compared to two in
1988
2 million: The number of visitors
Atlantic City bused in from surround-
ing areas last year, compared to 14 mil-
lion not long ago
The numbers dont lie not only is
Atlantic City failing, so is gambling
nationwide. Even in Las Vegas, the
gambling capital of the world, gam-
bling revenue was down to only $6.5
billion last year.
New casinos in that Nevada city are
focusing on other luxurious offerings
other than gambling, such as restau-
rants, nightclubs, pools, shopping,
spas and entertainment.
Over the last few years, Atlantic
City has begun to do the same with the
Tanger Outlets, The Pier Shops at Cae-
sars and the dining and nightlife at the
Borgata.
But is it enough? The numbers
would say that its not, or at the very
least, that more needs to be done to
make Atlantic City a bigger tourist
destination, serving more than just
the gambler.
Like it or not, Atlantic City is vital
for the states economy. Lucky for us, it
has easy access, beachfront property
and plenty of name recognition to
bounce back in a serious way.
in our opinion
Did the gamble on AC fail?
If so, then the state needs to find an alternative source of revenue fast
Your thoughts
Can Atlantic City rebound without
gambling? What are your ideas for how it
can become a tourist destination for more
than just gamblers? Share your thoughts
through a letter to the editor.

Township group shares proper mulching tips
Spring has sprung, but before
you put on your gardening gloves,
the Moorestown Tree Planting
and Preservation Committee
would like to remind residents of
good mulching practices around
trees.
Mulch should never be piled up
against the tree trunk. Mulching
in a volcano shape can make
the tree more susceptible to fun-
gus, insects, and rodents.
Instead, mulch should be pur-
posed in a donut shape.
Keep mulch 6 inches from the
trunk of trees, and mulch out as
far as the branches extend above.
Keep the mulch two to four inches
thick.
Every spring, break up old
mulch and add new to maintain a
two to four inch layer.
Properly applied mulch pro-
vides many benefits, such as the
prevention of soil compaction
and retention of water in soil for
tree roots. Mulch also keeps lawn
equipment from damaging tree
trunks, moderates temperature,
reduces competing vegetation,
and provides nutrients to trees as
it breaks down.
Think of mulch as a life pre-
server for your trees. Dont kill
them by piling up mulch against
the trunk of the trees.
If you have any questions,
email the tree committee at
moorestowntrees@gmail.com.

Gray Gables Estate is an 8 bedroom home, on 1.97 acres, yet still has that Welcome Home
feeling when you step onto the wrap-around front porch. Close your eyes and you can easily
picture yourself hosting dinner parties in the stately dining room with a grandiose chandelier.
Head into the Butlers pantry where you will find plenty of space for extra kitchen items, a
working sink, and leather studded countertops. Next stop is the spacious kitchen with ameni-
ties galore! You have an oversized island, an abundance of prep space, and a steady stream of
warm sunlight. Why order pizza ever again when you have your own indoor cooking fireplace
in the servants kitchen directly off the main kitchen! The amenities in this home continue with
an octagonal solarium, 10-foot ceilings, pocket doors, custom storm windows, and plenty of
rooms to have overnight guests, a playroom, hobby room, or an au-pair suite. Landscaping the
property will not be a concern, as there are already many rare trees, and flowering plants. If you
need storage, or do not like to keep your car outside you have a two and one car garage.
Summer time will never be the same with your very own in-ground pool, and a pool house
that includes a cabana with bar area, changing room, and storage area. Do not hesitate, an
opportunity not to be missed.
