Evolution: Dancing Through Time. Welcome to LSU Dance Show 2013! This year we are getting into our time machines and taking you back to some of the most iconic dance moments in both style and music. From old school Jazz to a Latin Fiasco. Styles included: Hiphop, Tap, Contemporary, and more, there is a style for everyones taste. Our dedicated team of teachers have been working hard with classes of all abilities and styles, whipping our dancers into shape to give you a diverse and invigorating range of performances. The show displays 18 hours of weekly rehearsals and 16 separate classes, mixing large scale group pieces with over 120 dancers, to solos and duets. What better way to celebrate dance than looking to the dancing greats of past years. We have numbers dedicated to movie evolution, broadway sensations, latin crazies and the king of pop, MJ. Every piece expresses musical development over the years from the golden oldies to modern upbeat tempos. Each dancer has been tightening their ribbons, donning their leotards and perfecting their pirouettes to create for you this fantastic event. Opening Dancing Through The Ages. Choreographed by: Caz Buckland To start your journey through time we are taking you back to the 1920s. Whilst celebrating a few of the dancing greats along the way! 120 dancers. 9 decades. 4minutes. Tap 2 - Movie Magic Choreographed by: Zoe Driver Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the worlds greatest films - from old 80s action flicks, to Disney classics, to modern musicals - tapping all the way through! We hope you enjoy reminiscing some of your favourites in this fun and diverse tap number. Lights, camera, action! Its Raining Men Choreographed by: Zoe Driver, Faye McCarthy, Frankie Mendola and Zoe Hanson. This fun classic 90s hit provides an upbeat and exciting tempo for an explosion of contemporary jazz and old skl disco! This dance is a cheeky and cheesy fun factor number that will have you reaching for your umbrellas in no time. Hallelujah! Ballet 3 - Joy Choreographed by: Lizzie Calver This beginners Ballet class demonstrates the joy that dancing can bring to people, which leaves ballet to remain a timeless discipline. This can be seen through the evolutionary element of the dance- that is placing classical technique to more contemporary music styles. Jazz 1 - Sweet Dreams Choreographed by: Sam Rollo Strong jazz dance routine with a feminine touch to the Eurythmics classic.

Tap Workshop - Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better Choreographed by: Robyn Potters After learning tap, two girls fight for the limelight by any means. Michael Jackson Tribute Choreographed by: Nicol Winfield, Kat Connabeer, Hannah Redfern, Paris Martins, Jade Joseph, Chloe Armson, Lucy Howick, Abbie Noakes. Best known for his legendary dance moves and influential music, Michael Jackson has entertained through the decades and has left behind a legacy that will live on forever. Get ready for a thriller because tonight, we take you back to the 80s to re-live some of his greatest hits! Sing, Sing, Sing Choreographed by: Hayley Johnson Envisage yourself in the 1930s dance halls swinging your skirts and twirling your partner. Feel the beat of the drums and crash of the cymbals as you relive the atmosphere of the big band era and see tap like youve never seen it before!

Ballet 2 - Aspects of War Choreographed by: Zoe Hanson This ballet piece portrays two aspects of war the disciplined, often harsh life of the military, in stark contrast to their partners waiting anxiously for them to return. The dance was inspired by the song Wherever You Are whose lyrics were written from the letters of the British military in Afghanistan and their loved ones at home to each other, and famously sung by the Military Wives choir.

Someone Like You Choreographed by: Emily Nancarrow A lyrical piece performed with emotion and sentiment, reflected in the lyrics of two of Adeles most renowned songs. Contemporary 1 Choreographed by: Katherine Loudoun This is a moving and thought provoking contemporary piece reflecting the lives we all live and perhaps take for granted. The choreography reflects the human bodies development from the foetus right through to ageing and illness. Eventually it deals with the passing away of loved ones who has fallen ill. Yet we still know they are there with us, forever following. We dont go far without thinking of them. The circle of life continues. From death we see new life. Jazz 3 Choreographed by: Chloe Sanders A taste of 60s disco glitz and glam, with the song taken from the hit musical DreamGirls. Traditional Jazz technique meets a sparkly and sassy edge. Enjoy! Me Ol Bamboo Choreographed by: Zoe Driver, Faye McCarthy and Laura Smith. This film favourite is paired with some fast paced complex tap to create a cheesy and light hearted performance that is guaranteed to set your toes a-tapping!

Hip Hop 1 Choreographed by: Milton Russell This dance is a collaboration of house dance, hip hop and locking with some sass thrown in. With music and choreography mixed and styled by Milton Russell, the team have worked hard to deliver and execute the routine with style. Ballet vs. Street Choreographed by: Phoebe Claydon and Steph Mansi This dance feature both ballet and street jazz dancers, with the aim of bring the more classical dance style of ballet into todays urban dance scene, whilst staying true to its roots. The music allows both styles to be brought together, for a fresh, new kind of dance piece that we hope you enjoy. Jazz 2 - The Battle Choreographed by: Becky Anderson This dance is about the conflict and struggle between two teams, they battle against one another in order to defeat and conquer their rivals and ultimately become victorious. This style of dance is Jazz therefore it is a very energetic and demanding style involving kicks, leaps and turns. The music is very dramatic and intense to create a very powerful and striking atmosphere. The dance begins with a piece of music called Explosive by the Bond Quartet which then goes into Fuego which is also by the same musicians. They are an Australian/English band who have been described as the best- selling string quartet of all time.

Hip-Hop Workshop Choreographed by: Kat Connabeer This theatrical hip-hop piece is based on a military theme, which shows a slight change in gender roles. The dance incorporates many styles, with the girls showing their swag, to the guys displaying their strength and pure skill. There are aspects of humour entangled to make this dance spectacular and show pleasing. Who run the world? LSUDance. Nightmares Choreographed by: Jade Joseph Taking a look at evolution from a different angle, this dance focuses on childhood and how weve all developed since. And of course, a look at childhood isnt complete without a couple of nightmares.. Tap 1 Turbulence Choreographed by: Faye McCarthy Welcome aboard flight 909! Sit back and relax as the LSU dance airhostesses take you on a whirlwind flight, as their quick intricate footwork performs a fast, fun and explosive tap number! Please fasten your seatbelts though, its going to be a bumpy ride! Contemporary Workshop Choreographed by: Hannah Redfern From soft rippling waves to energetic flames off a bonfire, this piece aims to portray the natural beauty of the elements; Water, Earth, Air and Fire. Contrasting the more lyrical and balletic vibes portraying water and air to the more impulsive and lively tones of the earth and fire, this dance emphasises the beauty of the environment, something that has, and will continue to surround us throughout the evolution of time.

Ballet 1 - A Day At The Office Choreographed by: Sam Rollo Using Bernsteins On The Town a more technically demanding workday! Mr Bojangles Choreographed by: Amie Potticary A modern twist to a classic song and style of tap dancing. The Fitness and Flexibility Army Choreographed by: Charlotte Cochrane The fitness and flex class meets every week for a workout to improve their stamina and flexibility for their other classes. Dancing to Seven Nation Army and incorporating a variety of moves from the splits to press ups, the LSU army girls are going to show you just how tough, fit and flexy they are! Read All About It Choreographed by: Katherine Loudoun and Nia Roberts An emotional lyrical dance to Emeli Sandes Read all about it, collaborating both of our ideas and choreography. Hip Hop 2 Place Your Bets Choreographed by: Nicol Winfield The question is Red or Black? Watch the roulette wheel as it spins through time from locking in late-1960s to street jazz in the mid-1990s. With a hint of swag and a touch of sass the teams will battle it out to see which divas dominate. There can only be one winner, place your bets now.

Latin Extravaganza Choreographed by: Ravina & Yolanda Welcome to the best of Latin dance!! We will show you the passionate samba, the soulful rumba and the rollicking cha cha cha, to all your favourite 2012 hits. Contemporary 2 - Trapped Choreographed by: Sophie Peckham This dance is about feeling trapped by something; be it a secret, an illness or an abusive relationship, and pleading for help. Throughout the dance, the dancers liberate themselves from their imprisonment and become free from constraints. Performed to Sia Im in Here. Committee Dance - Express Choreographed by: Zosia Jakobek, members include: Laura Smith, Lauren Perkins, Caz Buckland, Yanni Chow, Emily Nancarrow, Ellen Robinson, Lizzie Calver, Zoe Driver, Chloe Sanders, Nia Roberts. As we near the end of the show, the LSU Dance committee plan to take your journey full circle, taking you back to the golden age of cabaret and burlesque. Finale! Bringing the show to a close with a mash up of two classic songs, which embraces the best of old and new. Great ending for our evolution inspired show.
