Alfred (Antony Francis) Gell (1945-1997)
Antroplogo Britnico cuja produo mais influente se ocupou da Arte, Linguagem, Simbolismo e Ritual. Associado corrente da Antropologia Social. Discpulo de Edmund Leach (MPhil, Cambridge University) e Raymond Firth (PhD, London School of Economics), desenvolveu trabalho de campo na Melanesia e na ndia. Formado em Antropologia pela Cambridge University em 1968 e PhD pela London School of Economics em 1973 com tese baseada em pesquisa de campo na Nova Guin. Docncia incluiu The London School of Economics e demais instituies. Membro da Academia Britnica desde 1995.
