Future teacher's characteristics, skills, and competencies


Abstract
This study aims at answering the following questions:
1. What are the main characteristics of the future teacher?
2. what are the necessary skills and competencies that the future
teacher needs?
3. what are the basic procedures that help to improve the future
teacher's quality?
The findings of the study regarding the first question revealed that
the essential characteristics that the future should have are: good
knowledge of specialty and correct knowledge, knowledge of
student's behavior and abilities, high skills in teaching techniques
methods and evaluation, good interaction with students, interesting
lifelong learning and sustainable development, and good command of
computer and educational technology usage. The findings related to
the second question showed that the most important skills for the
teacher are: good theoretical and practical preparation, commitment to
the principles of professional ethics, the ability to communicate with
local community, and efficiency in conducting research. Finally, with
respect to the third question, the results indicated that: the licensing of
teaching and high standard of selecting teachers are the most
important procedures to improve their qualities.
