FOREWORD

Rev. 0

11 Sheets May 1996 Changes to the present document are not highlighted, due to the general revision carried out to conform to E.E.C. standards, which imply the remark of functional requirements, and the cancellation of any discriminating element. The specification has been graphically rearranged, and almost completely rewritten, including anyway all the concepts which were present in the previous revision. The specification has been completed by the addition of all the paragraphs required by the spec. 0294.ST.SW.GR. Graphic symbols have been updated, and put in compliance with the spec. 20198.COO.GEN.SDS, and theyve been inserted in the Annexes attached to the document. This specification cancel and replaces the spec. 06130.DOC.SAF.PRG.

2.
2.1

FUNCTIONAL NORMATIVE REQUIREMENTS Operative environment There are no particular environmental conditions requirements to be respected when applying this specification.

2.2 2.2.1

Functional requirements General prescriptions The plot plans shall be executed in accordance to the requirements of the specification 20257.COO.SAF.SDS. The present specification includes the currently available symbols, which are assumed to satisfy most of the requirements of the project documents preparation. For all those items which are not included in the present specification, specific software procedures are available, for the creation of new symbols and the definition of the relevant graphic properties and logics. Symbols representation shall be executed as simple as possible, and utilizing essential fonts, in order to make their use and their interpretation easy and comprehensive. Due to the fact that safety and fire-fighting plot plans are subject to the approval of the competent Authorities, the symbols have been obtained from officially recognized Normative Requirements, national or international (ISO 6970; NFPA 172; BS 1635; Normative Requirements CEI 3 - Parts 9 .10.11; D.M. 83 dated 30.10.93). In the References column of any table of the symbols the Normative References, from which the symbol is extracted, has been mentioned.

2.2.2

Symbol identification criteria Any graphic symbol is identified by a code composed of two fields: on the left the commercial class (item code) identifier (two digits), and on the right the progressive number (two digits). In the Annexes, the symbols have been ordered and grouped on the basis of the commercial classes (item code), distinguishing by the progressive number all those items which belong to the same commercial class (item code). The following items constitute exceptions: - unidentified components, whose symbol has only the progressive number, and no commercial class (item code) (Annex 9); - safety instrumentation, whose symbols are defined on the basis of the functionality and not on the basis of the commercial class (item code) (Annex 8).

20252.DOC.SAF.SDS Rev. 0 May 1996 Sheet 8

2.2.3

Sizing criteria The graphic representation of the symbols doesnt require any specific scale, which could modify their dimensions, as they re defined in the software libraries. In the following list, some dimensional prescriptions for a few primary symbols are given: - rectangle for control and instrumentation panels: 16x8 mm; - trapezoid for protection means: 16x8 mm; - square for hand control station: 8x8 mm; - circle for safety instrumentation: diam. 7 mm; - circle for architectural safety symbols: diam. 10 mm.

2.2.4

Execution methods The symbols described in the present specification has been drawn using a Microcadds system. Graphic conventions for the CAD system shall be applied also to the drawings executed using different systems. For a correct use of the CAD library, it is recommended to refer to the support documentation to the software customization issued by AGIP (users manuals, operating procedures, technical specification, symbols software, etc.).

2.2.5

Symbols organization The Annexes report the symbols grouped in families, in accordance to the specification 20198.COO.GEN.SDS, defining the relevant commercial class (item code) for each single one. In the present specification the symbols subdivision is presented based on the following organization: Annex Annex 1 2 Instrumentation and control panels. (Class J) Communication equipment. (Class Q)

Annex

The graphic symbols of the instrumentation which has an impact on safety are ordered on the basis of the functionality, and of the progressive number of the symbol. All instrumentation symbols included in the document are related to LOCAL instrumentation, which, in the P&IDs, are represented with the typical elliptical symbol (with no diagonal), inside which the function is written. Note that many graphic symbols are marked on a side, by a group of digits which are typical descriptions for the given instrument.

Annex

Symbols for escape ways and safety architectures.

Graphic symbols are ordered by a progressive number. Two symbols groups have been identified; the former related to the symbols to be used for the representation of the escape ways; the latter collects all the architectural symbols related to safety, which therefore belong to the library of safety symbols and not to the one of architectural symbols.
