Lebanon – 1977

Events and Dialogue

Kanook note at end!

Lebanon in 1977 as seen by the International Community and internally was

a fractured nation, under the rule and guidance of many countries, the USA
included. In retrospect not much different than it is today the only difference is
today they are not crawling out from under two years of horrific Civil War.

History is at best a compilation of facts and varied reports from the era, with
it sometimes being noted by the “victor” when it comes to War and
Conquest…in the case of Lebanon albeit they had just barely survived a Civil
War in 1975 and 1976, there really was no clear winner, consequently the
general population was the clear loser. The country towards the end of 1976
remained mired in chaos politically and physically, with the government
fragmented and banks and businesses in disarray and the populous existing on
a day-to-day basis.

Some insist that the Lebanese National Movement (“LMN”) had the upper-hand
along with their Palestinian allies, albeit the Palestinian movement had
diminished, whereas they had lost favor in the small towns and villages they
had run rough-shod over. Since the Syrian intervention in 1976 they had tried
numerous time to advance their cause, but because of their overbearing
tactics and attitude met with little success. In turn, the LMN forces were in
retreat, which became a full run backwards after the assassination of Druze
leader Kamal Jumblatt on March 16th, 1977.

War in general leaves groups amongst all parties involved whereas in

Lebanon this was especially true, where you found people joining different
sides and that after the conflict the memories were hard to put to sleep, and
most usually will remain for at least one-generation.

I have been of the opinion that what had transpired inside Lebanon was an
internal conflict, but since I have begin noting events, in most cases I have
found that the external forces involved chose to do battle over their own
internal concerns, projecting their fears onto the battlefields in Lebanon. As I
researched the events in Lebanon I was amazed at the influence that Israel
had on the strife in the region, whereas ever since May 14th, 1948 when the
Jewish Agency proclaimed Independence the region has been in turmoil. In
reading the news of the era it appears on the surface that Israel is in the
background and “forced” from time-to-time to defend their sovereignty from
the actions from the north…but, as you move forward and peel the words back
piece by piece from their rhetoric the picture emerges that they had just a
little more to do with stirring things up and keeping the conflict moving…
searching for an end that would put a disorganized and bloodlust filled
snapshot of the people they drove from Palestine. In other words they pushed
and sold the anti-Semitic theme and the poor us feeling across all parties.

In one sense I am strictly against what has transpired when it comes to

Palestine and their ongoing struggle with Israel, and yet as a member of the
United States I feel more than responsible for the ongoing battle. This because
of the United States and their heavy handed support of Israel, which as a
student of history I feel is based on a religious book that says they are the
Children of God (and the rest of us are not?) and can do as they feel with the
rest of the world around them. I believe some of the terrible atrocities that
have been committed against the Jews, and yet I also know some of the
atrocities that have been committed against other races on this Blue Marble.

Some of you who know me, know that I am a member of the Tlingit1 Nation,
Raven Moiety, Dog Salmon Clan of Alaska whereas my relatives were alive and
present when the USA took possession of Alaska from Russia in what is
consider today and then not theirs to sell. Our tribe was deemed uncivilized
and had to fight tooth and nail, legally and un-legally to gain our citizenship in
a land we occupied for over 15,000 years – which according to Jewish History is
at least 9,000 years more than they occupied a portion of the Levant.

When the European came to North America there has been estimated to be
over 50,000,000 indigenous people living there, today you will find just a bit
over 2,000,000. The media and the Jewish owned moving picture industry for
over 100 years depicted the Native American as “savages”, attacking wagon
trains that were invading their territory and laying claim to their land. Wild Bill
Hickok along with Buffalo Bill were seen as great killers of Buffalo, the Indian’s
primary source of food, they were employed by the US Government to kill and
kill and kill to drive the Indian from his land for lack of food to land-locked
refugee camps called Reservations. The US Government told the civilized
world they were protecting the Indian by feeding them food bought from
government paid ranchers. So when you talk to me about the holocaust and
the atrocities of the Jewish race, don’t expect too much in return, as Israel
receives billions in aid each year from my country and my race has to suffer
humiliation and shame each time one of our children goes to a US Gvt
provided health clinic, that is our right guaranteed under the United States
Constitution to the Natives of America…I’ve read the document over and over
again and I have found no such article or amendment stating the United States
must provide for Israel.

I joined thousands of my people in the protest of a Jewish Holocaust museum

being built in my Nations capital, years before a simple Native American
museum was constructed. The funds for the holocaust museum were provided

by the US Government, while the Indian, the original owner of the land it was
built on had to go cup-in-hand to the American Public to gather funds to build
their museum…they did and it’s a wonder. Our museum shows the
contributions we have made over the years to the American culture and in
general to society, not once talking about the atrocities that were committed
against us, while the one across the street talks of nothing else. Today the
Native American museum as at least ten times more popular, tell me –
“contribution” or “poor me”, what would you want to see? We sent out a
questioner to our people asking them if they would like to see an extension of
our museum in Israel…of the ones returned (which was less than 25%) all said
no! John Kerry and Diane Feinstein said it was rigged!

I note the preceding not to gain anyone’s sympathy, only to demonstrate the
path that reasonable people have been led upon. Our thoughts and feelings
are constantly bombarded with how we must respect and admire the Jew for
what he has walked through, while the rest of the Indigenous people around
the world must get in line to even receive the smallest of acknowledgements
in the media. My feelings, it happened and we all know it happened, that is
unless you have been living under a rock in the rain forests of the Amazon or
the Congo. I would like to say, “get over it”, but I believe that would be
classified as anti-Semitic so I best be careful.
