Right from our childhood, we have often come across many instances where financial inability curtails the

education of brilliant students. It is common to see many bright students abandoning their studies because of inability to finance their education. It is cruel that money becomes an inhibiting factor in some young lives, making their educational pursuit an uphill task. Aksharam is an organization conceived and established with the specific objective of helping deserving students get an education. The goal is to fund the education of economically challenged but academically promising students. Aksharam was founded in June 1997 and is a registered charity organization, in India. It has a group of members who have been consistently contributing towards the organization. It has a committed management team in India who help running the foundation and take care of managing it. In our small way, this serves to pass on the goodwill and support that we received from society when we were young. Brief Progress Report

1998: Started with 9 high-school students between 9th and 12th std, starting with a disbursement of Rs.16,000/1999: Extended to 12 students at school level, disbursing Rs.28,000/2000 to 2009: Supported over 300 students at school and collegiate levels, disbursing scholarship to the total tune of approximately Rs.45Lakhs. 2003: First batch of students who were supported by Aksharam complete their education and start donating towards Aksharams cause Jan 2010: Started operations in Chennai Residential Community Project successfully started at Valmiki Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. 22 students supported in 2010 Nov 14 2010: First library being setup by Aksharam at Ramaneeyam Sankara Matriculation School, Thoraipakkam

Continued long-term support of a student, unless the performance of the student steadily deteriorates
