The Dark Side of Ballet There are many things that people have been said about ballet, for instance; compliments for the perfection of their movements and praise for the beauty of its performers, but also people have written stories that happen after dark racks, beyond the tales of princes and princesses walking on tiptoe on stage (Miranda, 2013.) Some of the main causes of rivalry in mayor ballet academies are envy, jealousy and obsession. Envy is linked with discrimination and also with materialism. You can see the example in the case of Eva. She is a 10 year old girl that assists at Russian Ballet School in Costa Rica. This institution has several levels in which the students have to accomplish some specific objectives in order to continue with the program, and it is frequent that girls began the program very young, for instance when they are 3 years old. So, Eva was an exception because she began the program when she was 9. Due to this particular situation her classmates began to feel some envy against her, and because of that Eva had to face terrible situations like discrimination. The situation was very difficult at the beginning, because she was completely rejected, even if she attended with different cloths and shoes that were not brand (Arbustini, 2013.) A particular aspect that characterizes most of the girls of these types of institutions is that they are extremely materialism, because since many years ''Ballet'' has been considered has something especially for high class, so they are raised around a lot of money, and without the knowledge of the world ''humility.'' So, Eva experienced envy, materialism and also discrimination at the beginning of the program, but fortunately now things seem to be different. The second cause is jealously, and the perfect example is the case about Serguei Filin. He was the Russian Bolshoi ballet director. In 2013 he was sprayed with acid on his face, which caused him severe burns to skin and eyes (Miranda, 2013.) That happened because someone felt less than Filin, something that it is frequent in the path of ballet. There always exist the competitiveness in which is decided who is the best. According to Kristiane Feoli, soloist of Nutcracker Ballet (2013) The struggle is daily, you should be thin, delicate look, you have to be very

flexible and beautiful. A dancer also cannot be conformist or mediocre, he/she always has to want more. So, as you perceive the level of competitiveness is very high. Also as stated by

Mijail Vinogradov, a psychiatrist

When you take an

acid on the face of someone, there is a desire for personal revenge. So, the combination of competitiveness and revenge could be lethal. Obsession is another cause of rivalry in ballets world. In major ballet academies exists a high level of obsession because there is always the fact of getting a solo or a principal paper in the choreography. As a result, a strong feeling of hatred begins to appear in dancers. For instance; in the past some dancers found glass in their slippers, pins in their costumes and even they were chased by fans for other figures that beat them in order to achieve that their idols get an ascent in the cast (Miranda, 2013.) Also, ambition plays an important role.

Dancers always want more and more until they become the most ambitious people in the world, rarely without their consent. As stated by Feoli (2013) ''Dancers are emotionally exposed to having to undergo high levels of pressure. That could be one of the reasons why artists are so ambitious.'' To conclude, there exist a combination of feelings such as; envy, jealousy and obsession that are the main causes of rivalry in mayor ballet academies. Meanwhile dancers, choreographers and people in general are questioning how a guild creator of such beauty (dancers), may be involved in a disaster like this.
