PRESS RELEASE

SEPTEMBER 4, 2006

With its more refined lines and higher quality interior, New Clio three-box is set to continue on its momentum

With production totalling more than 500,000 cars since the model's launch in 1999, Clio threebox which is sold in 64 countries and known as Thalia, Symbol or Clio Classic depending on the market has proven to be a genuine success story.

To continue on this momentum, Renault will launch a new evolution of the model in September 2006. In addition to its status-enhancing modern exterior styling and new, more refined interior which places the accent on improved perceived quality, New Clio three-box boasts a level of comfort and safety equipment more readily associated with that of the next segment up. Meanwhile, all these modifications combine with an extensive range of powerplants and a revised choice of equipment levels tailored to match the needs of its owners as closely as possible.

Thanks to its even more attractive line-up, its affordable price tag and its unique quality of travelling comfort and finish, New Clio three-box has plenty of arguments in favour of its continued success, not only in Europe but also in growing markets where it faces increasingly fierce competition.

New Clio three-box will be distributed notably in central and eastern Europe and in France's overseas departments, as well as in Greece, Russia, Turkey, the Maghreb countries, the Gulf States and in certain South and Central American countries.

More modern lines, a higher standard of perceived quality and additional equipment
In addition to its new status-enhancing front-end styling, New Clio three-box boasts a more refined, higher quality cabin that mirrors the car's overall dynamic stance. New Clio three-box's restyling takes up the overall lines of the former generation car which have been modernized and made more status-enhancing. Its front end features a new body colour bumper, while the former bumper's protective mouldings have made way for a more graceful strip. The re-penned grille and improved incorporation of the foglamps reinforce the impression of status.

At the rear, New Clio three-box comes with a more assertive bumper design, while the boot sports new Renault badging and the incorporates the Renault logo on the boot lock, in the same way as Laguna.

According to market and finish level, New Clio three-box is available with body colour side protective mouldings, exterior mirrors and door handles which combine to emphasize its more dynamic lines. These are also underpinned by the availability of two new 14-inch wheeltrims and a new 14-inch five-spoke alloy wheel design.

These changes coincide with several styling and quality-enhancing evolutions to New Clio three-box's interior. The cabin is more refined, better finished and has a more upper-range feel thanks notably according to market and version to the introduction of a leather steering wheel and gear lever knob, a new dashboard design and new door panels derived from Clio II, which ensure a warmer, more modern interior.

Also as a function of finish level, the dashboard comes with two new clearer, easier to read instrument graphics which now sport a white background.

New light and dark charcoal interior trims and new upholsteries are featured too. As a function of the three equipment levels (Authentique Pack, Expression Confort and Dynamique Confort), three new upholsteries are available: the entry level, predominantly grey "Astramix", "Rythme Petit" based on blue hues - for the second level and finally "Kota Rouge" which, as its appellation suggests, is both warm and dynamic.

New Clio three-box also benefits from the introduction of new metallic tints, including Olive Grey, Blue Grey, Mthyl Blue and Poivr Beige.

Clio three-box has always stood out as a model that offers a standard of travelling comfort amongst the very best in its class for its price, and New Clio three-box prolongs that tradition with the availability of a trip computer, regulated climate control and rear electric windows according to version and market.

Meanwhile, from the entry level up, a central display is incorporated into the upper part of the centre console to form an integral part of the dashboard design. According to equipment level, it gives the time, outside temperature and frequency or name of the selected radio station. More readily associated with the next segment up, this equipment further enhances the comfort and status of New Clio three-box.

Last but not least, New Clio three-box maintains its predecessor's class-topping boot capacity of 510 litres, while its fold-down rear benchseat facilitates the transport of bulky loads. For improved perceived quality, the boot interior is equipped with a new lining: the rear wheel wells are entirely trimmed in carpet and the boot floor is now perfectly flat. The interior of the boot lid also comes with a carpeted trim.

On the active and passive safety fronts, New Clio three-box boasts advanced safety features rarely seen in its segment. From the entry level up, New Clio three-box is delivered as standard with ABS, driver and front passenger airbags and front seatbelts equipped with pretensioners and built-in load limiters (set at 400daN), while rear passengers benefit from three heightadjustable headrests.

Enhanced driving pleasure and comfort

New Clio three-box is acclaimed by its owners not only for its handling and travelling comfort but also for the response of its petrol engines. Its range of powerplants has evolved and, according to market, engines comply with Euro 3 or Euro 4 emission standards.

Renault has chosen to stay with the range of engines that helped forged the success of Clio three-box. New Clio three-box is powered by the 1.2 16V 55kW (75hp), 1.4 55kW (75hp) and 1.4 16V 72kW (100hp) petrol engines (according to country). Four-speed automatic transmission is now available, while the 1.5 dCi diesel engine comes in a choice of three power outputs: 48kW (65hp), 50kW (70hp) and 60kW (80hp).

1.2 16V The 1,149cc Type D4F engine delivers 75hp (55kW) at 5,500rpm with maximum torque of 105Nm (10.7mkg) at 4,250rpm. It offers smooth acceleration response and 90 per cent of torque is available from very low engine speeds across a particularly broad rev-band that extends from 1,750 to 5,750rpm. The 1.2 16V boasts market-best fuel efficiency with full cycle fuel consumption of 6.2 litres/100km, equivalent to 147g of CO2/km. Powered by this engine, New Clio three-box guarantees genuine versatility whatever the type of journey. According to country, the 1.2 16V is either Euro 96, Euro 3 or Euro 4 compliant.

1.4 With a maximum power output of 55kW (75hp) at 5,500rpm, the Type K7J 1,390cc engine offers an outstanding combination of driveability and driving pleasure. Its maximum torque of 114Nm (11.6mkg) at 4,250rpm ensures versatile performance for New Clio three-box both in and out of town, while fuel consumption is a low 7.1 litres/100km, equivalent to 168g of CO2/km. According to country, the 1.4 is either Euro 96, Euro 3 or Euro 4 compliant.

1.4 16V This engine delivers a high level of driving pleasure thanks to maximum power of 72kW (100hp) for a cubic capacity of just 1,390cc. Peak torque is 127Nm (12.9mkg), 90 per cent of which is available across a rev-band that extends from 2,000 to 5,750rpm. This characteristic has enabled both 4th and 5th gears to be lengthened in favour of driving comfort during long journeys. This powerplant is aimed at motorists looking for both response and performance but who also want an engine that is inexpensive to run, and New Clio three-box 1.4 16V combines

the pleasure of sports-style driving with touring car comfort and fuel consumption of just 7 litres/100km (165g of CO2/km). It is available with four-speed automatic transmission and, according to country, is either Euro 96, Euro 3 or Euro 4 compliant (the version with automatic transmission is only available with the Euro 96 and Euro 3 engines).

1.5 dCi The diesel engine range is based on a single powerplant, the 1.5 dCi (Type K9K), equipped with common rail injection for enhanced combustion quality and fuel efficiency. It is available with a choice of three power outputs:

48kW (65hp): maximum torque of 160Nm (16.3mkg) ensures excellent mid-range acceleration response. New Clio three-box 1.5 dCi claims European combined cycle fuel consumption of just 4.7 litres/100km, equivalent to 126g of CO2/km. This version of the 1.5 dCi is Euro 3 compliant.

50kW (70hp): this derivative of the 1.5 dCi delivers peak torque of 160Nm (16.3mkg) which is available from 2,000rpm. An evolution of the 48kW engine, it boasts enhanced performance and lower fuel consumption. Its European combined cycle fuel consumption is 4.5 litres/100km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 120g/km. This version of the 1.5 dCi complies with the Euro 4 emission standard.

60kW (80hp): the most powerful version of the 1.5 dCi engine offers convincing performance and driving pleasure, including maximum torque of 185Nm (18.9mkg) at 2,000rpm. Its European combined cycle fuel consumption is just 4.6 litres/100km (121g of CO2/km). This version of the 1.5 dCi complies with the Euro 3 emission standard.

New Clio three-box continues to benefit from suspension acclaimed for its balance between handling performance and comfort.

A success since 1999

Clio three-box has met with considerable success ever since its launch, with sales of more than 500,000 cars to date. It is currently available in 64 countries, notably in eastern Europe, Latin America and North Africa, while its flagship markets are Turkey, Brazil, Romania, Russia, Algeria, Colombia and Tunisia.

The launch of New Clio three-box comes after a development period of 24 months. Some 16 million euros were spent on manufacturing-related investment at its various production sites.

Produced in Turkey since 1999, it has also been built in Argentina and Brazil since 2000 and in Colombia since 2001. Since 2002, Clio three-box has been produced at Nissan's facilities in Mexico where it is sold as the Nissan Platina.

In 2005, 75,800 Clio three-boxes were manufactured in Bursa, Turkey, the model's main production site. Almost a third of these cars were exported. The Bursa factory, which employs a staff of 5,000, also produces the four-door Mgane saloon, as well as New Clio since January 2006.

Turkey, which accounted for 44.4 per cent of Clio three-box sales in the first half of 2006, continues to stand out as the model's leading market.

In central Europe, 12,850 Clio three-boxes were sold in 2005. Despite the arrival of Logan, Clio three-box claimed a market share of 3.75 per cent in these markets.

Renault intends to build on these results to either maintain or increase Clio three-box's market share in the different countries where it is sold.
