System 800xA 5.0 transition to Classic pre-announcement

Executive Summary System 800xA version 5.0 will transition to Classic life cycle phase by July 31, 2011. The price list will be withdrawn end of December 2010. Products Concerned System 800xA version 5.0. Description This product update is a pre-announcement that System 800xA version 5.0 will transition to Classic life cycle phase by July 31, 2011. The price list will be withdrawn end of December 2010 and new sales should focus on version 5.1. Any sales using version 5.0 during 2011 must be quoted and approved by the RMUs. The expansion price lists for version 5.0 will continue to be available also after the Classic transition date. The initial release of 800xA 5.0 took place in late 2006. The successor version 5.1 has now been released, and by policy the previous version is transitioned to Classic life cycle phase within 12 months after the successor release. Classic life cycle phase means the system version is still supported and maintained according to the 800xA life cycle policy which commits supporting a system version for at least 7 years from the release date. The workstation operating system used in 800xA 5.0 is Windows XP, for which Microsoft has announced end of support around mid 2014. This means 800xA 5.0 will transition to Limited at the same date, and plants are recommended to plan for an upgrade latest mid 2014. Any prolonged life cycle support is subject to special support agreement. Customers on a current Automation Sentinel subscription are entitled to software version upgrades to the latest 800xA system software at no additional license cost depending on the purchased program level. For those customers who are not current subscribers, we recommend discussing the advantages of Automation Sentinel in providing support, maintenance and upgrades to their 800xA system on a regular basis. Ongoing support and maintenance for SV5.0 will continue to be provided to Automation Sentinel subscribers for the remaining duration of the Active period and during the Classic lifecycle.
