Problem Scenario
The Scenario: Ive been invited to attend a job interview with the hiring team of Rolling Stone magazine. I have just graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at ASU, and I have applied to Rolling Stone Magazine every year, and have gained experience working at the Phoenix New Times and the ASU Newsletter. They have asked me to come in for an interview for a music journalism position, and I have agreed to give a quick 30-minute about myself for them. They have asked me to include past work experience, my passion for music, and any other qualifications that make me stand out from the rest.

Objectives:
My objectives are to: Cover all past work experience that make me qualified for the potential new position. State all education received and how it will be useful at this position. Explain my passion for music with anecdotes (with images), and a brief history of my life in music. Provide an outline of the process in which I would attain information for the magazine, write the information up, and format it as an article. Prove my genuine desire for the position, and affirm my willingness to work.

Instructional Materials and Resources


Instructional Materials Needed: Rights to use clips from Almost Famous (movie) to add some entertainment to the presentation. Handout survey to assess general information about the hiring team in relevance to my presentation, and values they have in an employee. A Power Point about my passion for music complete with images.

Activities
The presentation will begin with a clip from the film Almost Famous as a Segway into the importance of music journalism. A PollEverywhere Poll will gather data from the hiring team about concerts they have heard of, and music genres/artists they enjoy. A short YouTube video about me (included in Power Point). A small Power Point presentation about my educational background, my work experience and my methods in performing journalistic duties. A Q&A session for any other questions from my hiring team. At the end of the presentation, a survey will be given to obtain feedback, and what the hiring team is looking for in an employee.

Assessment
To assess that all of my past work experience and education is covered, I will utilize a Power Point Presentation, complete with provide images and notes, to help the hiring team fully understand my background. To assess that my education is fully explained, I will share knowledge and experience gathered from previous internships, and how I will use that knowledge at this new position. To assess that the hiring team is aware of my passion for music, I will show them a short YouTube video I created to show them a little bit about myself. To assess that my method of attaining information is explained, I will provide a small section of my PowerPoint outlining my process of information gathering. I will include methods I have learned from previous positions and some examples of my articles. To assess that the hiring team knows my willingness to work, I will provide goals and aspirations I have for this position, and what I will do to achieve them.
