JDs WEBSITE REVIEW
GAP CONNAHS QUAY www.the-nomads.co.uk

Well here we are at the final port of call in my journey around the websites of the 12 Corbett Sports
Welsh Premier League clubs. My running order has been random and it is pure coincidence that
www.the-nomads.co.uk is my twelfth and final review. Connahs Quay Nomads were of course founder
members of the Football League of Wales back in 1992 and following some rebranding in recent years
are now re-established as a WPL club after a short spell in the Cymru Alliance.
I really will not be able to do this website justice in the limited space available as there are copious
amounts of information on all aspects of the club contained therein, starting with an attractive and
comprehensive Home Page. There is a rolling news service with photographs and details of the latest
and next first team fixture. In addition to this there is a photograph of a featured first team player and a
logo for the Shirt Sponsor. At the foot of the page there are logos for the FAW, WP League and Main
Sponsor Corbett Sports. The visitor can also access the main club sponsor, Gap Personnels website.
At the top of the Home Page there are a number of headings that enables the visitor to find almost
anything anyone could wish to know about Gap Connahs Quay. The News Page is regularly updated
and each post is complemented by a photograph. There are separate pages for the Academy and
Development Squad news, again regularly updated. A News archive and even the latest news from Gap
Personnel.
Moving on to the Match Centre, I found comprehensive Match reports, once again supported by
photographs and statistics. There is also a current WPL table and archived results going back to the
2005/06 season.
Player Profiles with photographs in the majority of cases can be found on the First Team page, as can
Pen pictures and photographs of the Coaching Staff. There is also a Squad Photograph and current and
all time Player stats.
On some sites that I have visited the attention to detail on the Development and Academy Pages has not
matched that surrounding the Welsh Premier League Team and I am delighted to say that this is not the
case with Gap Connahs Quay.
The Commercial Page is really excellent, giving the full range of potential sponsorship opportunities
with prices. The visitor is able to click onto any of the current sponsors logos, which I am sure is much
appreciated. This is also matched by the Club Shop, which illustrates a wide range of merchandise with
prices and enables the potential customer to pay for his purchases using a range of credit cards.
Finally, I visited the Club Page, which gives details of Deeside Stadium, Club Policies and History and
access to download a Media Pack. I was also able to view photographs of all of the current Club
Officials.
All in all this is undoubtedly among the best sites that I have visited on this tour and I was even tempted
to give it a score of 10. However, my only disappointment was my click onto the Forum Page where I
was supposed to find The Nattering Nomad, unfortunately he was
nowhere to be seen. Im not really a fan of forums, but if the page is
there I expected to see something on.
Im off for some warm weather training in California tomorrow and
when I return on 12
th
February, I will consult with my erstwhile
colleagues Andrew and Gwyn to decide on the two best sites, for each of
which I will sponsor a ball at a match before the end of the season.

AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON www.airbusfc.com
THE Wingmakers have made their third signing of the January transfer window with the arrival at the
Hollingsworth Group Stadium of 21-year-old frontman Jason Oswell.
Formerly with Crewe Alexandra and Inverness Caledonian Thistle as a professional, he joins from Rhyl ending
his second spell at Belle Vue
Oswell began his career at Crewe and turned professional in May 2011 but was loaned to Market Drayton Town
and Nantwich Town during the 2010/11 season before joining Rhyl on-loan in the Huws Gray Alliance.
He then signed for Inverness in June 2012 and made his two SPL appearances but was released by mutual consent
a year ago.
After brief spells with his former club Nantwich and Witton Albion, Oswell played in Australia with APIA
Leichhardt Tigers before returning to Belle Vue last summer where he made 11 (+3) appearances for the Lillies,
scoring three goals which included one against Airbus this season.
FOUR players from the Airbus Under-19s have been called-up for the Wales Academy Under-18 squad to play
the Republic of Ireland in Waterford on Tuesday February 18.
The players selected are brothers Noah and Zyaac Edwards, Aaron Hassall and Myles Hart.
Three of the players to travel to Ireland already have first team experience.
Hassall, 16, has made seven substitute appearances this season to help management duo Andy Preece and Andy
Morrison during a spell when the squad has been depleted by injuries and suspensions.
Myles Hart, 17, has appeared once while Zy Edwards, 17, has two full Word Cup appearances to his credit
including the semi-final against Bala Town as well as four sub appearances in the Welsh Premier.
Noah Edwards has yet to gain a first-team call.
Two more young Wingmakers, George Deniz and Liam Hughes, have been placed on stand-by.
BALA TOWN www.balatownfc.co.uk
Bala Towns main sponsors win Disney
Licensee Lifetime Achievement Award
Last week the Lakesiders main sponsors
Aykroyd & Sons Ltd were recognised by
Disney and awarded the special Licensee
Lifetime Achievement Award for their
partnership with Disney for over 30 years at
the Walt Disney Company 2013 Licensee
Awards.
Joint MD David Aykroyd said:
"We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship
with Disney for many years now. Their
character and stories continue to inspire our
products and uniquely bring them to life,
and is an honour to receive this award."
This is the first time that the award has been awarded in the UK.
Everyone involved with Bala Town would like to congratulate Aykroyd & Sons Ltd on their prestigious
accolade and thank them once again for their ongoing support for Bala Town F.C.
Midfielder Ryan Jones has joined Cymru Alliance outfit Porthmadog on loan.
The loan deal is until the end of the season but allows for Ryan to be re-called by Bala Town after 28
days with 24 hours notice.

BANGOR CITY www.bangorcity.co.uk
The Football Association of Wales Show Racism the Red Card roadshow visited Bangor recently.
Pupils from the city's Ysgol Cae Top had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of the anti-racism
campaign, and to discuss racism in football - and in general - with representatives from SRtRC, North Wales
Police, and City manager Neville Powell.
Show Racism the Red Card is the UKs anti-racism educational charity and was established in January 1996. The
organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The
majority of the campaigns output is the delivery of education to young people and adults in their schools, their
workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. Across Britain, Show Racism the Red Card delivers training to
more than 50,000 individuals per year.
Racism in football is certainly less of an issue than it was back in the 1970s and 1980s, but unfortunately it still
raises its head - even in these more-enlightened times - which makes the important work SRtRC does with
youngsters in Wales all the more valuable..
CARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownafc.org
"We have had a wonderful season so far," said Carmarthen Town manager Mark Aizlewood when reflecting on
the completion of the first phase of the Welsh Premier League.
"Putting aside a poor result against Aberystwyth Town, we have played 22 games. We have finished the first
phase in third position. It could have been better but after having played everybody else, home and away, we are
the third best team in the league."
"We have won the Word Cup and in real terms we have done absolutely fantastically well. It is better than
expected and now we are in with the 'big boys' for the second phase of the season."
"We have earned our way in and now what we have to do is to be realistic. If I'm honest four clubs in the top six,
and probably four in the bottom group, could financially attract all of our players. But what pleases me is that we
are in the top six on football ability alone."
Aizlewood continued: "Any result we get from now on will be an absolute bonus. With ten games left to play I'm
absolutely delighted with the effort, commitment, aptitude, attitude and results that the players have gained."
"However, I'm always looking around for new players. The type we need to attract have to be young and
inexperienced from the level below us. We cannot, financially, do it any other way. We will get some right and
some wrong, but they take time to develop. It is easy for them to develop if they are playing in a reasonably
successful team."
"From a club point of view the new players we have brought in have been hugely successful. I'm sure it will
continue that way."
gap CONNAHS QUAY www.the-nomads.co.uk
The Nomads are pleased to announce that goalkeeper Terry McCormick has been selected in the Welsh Premier
League Team of Phase One.
The team was revealed on Twitter and Facebook last week by the Welsh Premier League's official pages, and
Terry was the only member of The Nomads to make the team.
Despite The Nomads' poor run of form this season, McCormick has had a number of outstanding performances
and was also recently voted as the Goalkeeper of the Year in the Dave Jones Daily Post Awards for 2013.
Congratulations to Terry, and here's hoping he's a little quieter in the second half of the season!
NEWTOWN AFC www.newtownafc.co.uk
FOR season upon season the Robins fans have had the threat of relegation looming over them from the first
whistle of the campaign until near enough the last.
Last season the Robins beat the drop with a game to spare, and the season before they were given a reprieve from
relegation.
But this season is a whole new ball game. The Robins are safe, and its only January. And that is not just a relief
for the players but for the fans as well.
The Latham Park faithful have been happy to see them having in their way this season, with the side going on a
spectacular run and getting themselves in the top six fold.
But I bet back on that bank holiday in August when Camarthen scored their fourth inside 30 minutes, that even the
most optimistic of Newtown supporters wouldnt have seen the top six coming.
But they have finally done it now, and on the horizon is a worry free second half of the season. It will be nice for
the fans to go to the likes of Nantporth, The Venue and The Airfield than having to travel to the bottom half
grounds worrying what will happen if they lose.
Now they can travel to the top grounds in the league and if they do lose, not be worried by that dark shadow of the
drop.
Its a credit to the players and to Cal and Chris that this has been possible, not to mention Bernie McNally who
put the core of the side together and went through the tough times alongside Chairman Elwyn Preece.
In the distance future there is the top six, and if results are strung together, who knows how high up the Robins
could finish.
The Europa League play offs were in fans wildest dreams in August and now they are a reality. And I bet some of
the die hards have been thinking about re-newing their passports already.
But before that there is the small matter of the Welsh Cup. Or in the Robins case this season, the large matter.
The Robins face Holywell Town next month at Latham Park, a side that sit two leagues below them.
Hughes men wont be underestimating them, but if they do get through, it could be the Welsh Cup glory that
overrides the top six finish.
A bypass into Europe and a cup win could be even more impressive for the Robins.
And they have the man at the helm to give the fans just that.
Hughes picked up the famous old trophy with Prestatyn Town last season and I am sure he would love to do it
again this time around.
Its been 12 months since I began the job here at Latham Park, and this time last year we had just missed out on
the top six and my opening games would see a run of four straight defeats.
I could have been a bad luck charm, but how things have changed.
A report like this last season would have been full of negative points about beating the drop and the performances
being great but the results not.
How things can change in just 12 short months.
Relegation fears to Welsh Cup victory and Europa League play offs maybe.
Ive seen stranger things happen in football...
PORT TALBOT TOWN www.porttalbottown.co.uk
PORT Talbot have swooped for their fourth signing of the transfer
window after youth team product Keiran Williams was added to Scott
Youngs first team squad.
After a number of impressive performances for Mark Pikes under-19
side, Williams has shown enough to earn a senior deal.
The 17-year-old midfielder came through the youth ranks at Swansea
City, where he spent eight years before being released last summer.
He follows in the footsteps of left-back Jake Parry, forward Jason
Bertorelli and goalkeeper Connah McFenton into the GenQuip
Stadium this January.
Williams is now hoping to be included for Saturdays trip to Rhyl
when Port Talbot play their final game before the mid-season split.
PRESTATYN TOWN www.ptfconline.co.uk

Rhyl FC www.rhylfc.co.uk
Described as a combative and skilful midfielder by his new boss Greg Strong, Peter Dogan ("Doogs") is relishing
the chance to show the Lilywhites' fans what he can do after he met his new team mates this week.
"There were a few clubs interested in me," he told rhylfc.co.uk. "Greg phoned me out of the blue and I spoke to a
few people. They said it was a good club, who like to play football and a great ground and pitch and good fans.
"I played there once as a youngster for Droylsden in a pre-season friendly.
"They're a great set of lads, with a good team spirit and it's a well run club."
Despite his imposing six feet three inch, thirteen stone frame, Dogan, who turns 29 on Saturday, believes in the
beautiful game.
"I like a tackle but I like to pass. I'll work hard. I'll compete, I'll tackle but I don't like the long ball game. I like
teams who pass the ball.
"The fans can expect total commitment and I'll work hard and try to win for the football club, every time I step on
the pitch.
"I'll have the odd off day, every player does, but I promise I'll give total commitment and work hard in every
game."
That commitment, drive and desire to play football is something which attracted Greg Strong when he realised
Dogan was on the radar.
"He's a big, strong central-midfield player but he's a very good footballer," said Strong.
"I have been searching and looking for new players. Players who come to Rhyl have to be improving the team. It
was important we got in the right kind of player.
"I was surprised and delighted we have been able to get him. He's a leader."
Dogan will await international clearance and then have to finish a two match suspension before he is introduced to
the Welsh Premier League.

TNS Under 16s crowned North Wales Champions
The New Saints under 16s beat Gap Connah Quay by five goals to four in the final of the North Wales Futsal
Cup.
Having beaten Bangor City by nine goals to two in the semi-final, The Saints triumphed in the final thanks to a
last minute strike from Ross Tyler.
Next month The Saints will play the South Wales Futsal Champions, in a match that will determine who will be
crowned the Futsal Champions of Wales.
The successful squad consisted of Andy Wycherley, Steve Roberts, Jan Bates, Matt Bainbridge, Matt Perry,Lewis
Evans, Harrison Millington, Nash Mwamuka, George Minshall, Tom Birch, Cal Graybrook and Ross Tyler..

Llanidloes FC v Port Talbot Town match postponed due to waterlogged pitch
THE LAST WORD from Gwyn Derfel
For the first time ever I almost used Grecian 2000 over the weekend. The weather,
postponements, unhappy club officials and certain unwelcome comments on social media have
certainly given my hair a slightly greyer tint.
I fully accept that the present position were in regarding concluding the first phase of fixtures is
unfortunate and uncertain. All I can promise is that every decision that has been taken regarding
the re-scheduling of matches has been done with the best interests of the league at heart. I
understand that certain clubs feel aggrieved at certain decisions made but I will not apologise for
making practical calls in difficult circumstances.
I witnessed Aberystwyths impressive victory over Carmarthen at a windswept Stebonheath on
Saturday and I was also present at Cardiff Mets even more comprehensive win against Swansea
in the Womens League Cup Semi Final on Sunday. Although the elements werent favourable
at Cyncoed the brand new 3G facility certainly indicated that this is the way forward for a
number of our clubs in Wales.
I will be up in Rhyl on Saturday for the final match of Phase 1 and will hopefully publish the
fixtures for the second phase on Monday. I hope that you all have a good week and also hope
that the gods smile on us all during the next seven days.
Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel
Am y tro cyntaf erioed bu bron i mi gael fy nhemtio i brynu potel o Grecian 2000 dros y Sul.
Roedd y tywydd garw, gohiriadau, swyddogion a chefnogwyr rhwystredig ac ambell sylw
anaddas ar gyfryngau cymdeithasol yn sicr wedi ychwanegu at frithder fy ngwallt.
Rwyn derbyn yn llwyr bod y sefyllfa o ran cwblhau cyfnod cyntaf y tymor yn ansicr ac
anfoddhaol ond fe allaf addo bod pob penderfyniad a gymerwyd wedi eu gwneud yn gwbl ddi-

nid wyf am ymddiheuro am wneud penderfyniadau ymarferol mewn sefyllfa amherffaith o
anodd.
Gwelais fuddugoliaeth gampus a gwyntog Aberystwyth yn Stebonheath brynhawn Sadwrn a
thystiais lwyddiant ysgubol merched Met Caerdydd yn erbyn Abertawe ddydd Sul yn Rownd

myfyrwyr yn arwydd pendant or ffordd ymlaen i nifer o glybiau Cymru.
Byddaf yn Y Rhyl ddydd Sadwrn yn gwylio gm olaf y cyfnod cyntaf ar bwriad yw cyhoeddi
