Configuring PNSPO InduSoft Web

Studio to communicate by Tag Name

to Omron CJ2 PLCs and NJ MACs

Version 1.1
11/21/2012
1. Products
This document will provide a step by step procedure for configuring Omron InduSoft Web
Studio (InduSoft Web Studio purchased through an Omron Authorized Distributor) to
communicate to Omron CJ 2M-CPU3x PLCs, CJ 2H-CPUxx-EIP PLCs, and Omron NJ MACs
by Tag Name on an EtherNet/IP network. This feature allows easy data transfer between
InduSoft Web Studio and an Omron controller by Tag Name, not by the traditional address
based configuration. This speeds application development and deployment.
This document applies to the following products:
Hardware:
CJ 2M-CPU31, CPU32, CPU33, CPU34, CPU35
CJ 2H-CPU64-EIP, CPU65-EIP, CPU66-EIP, CPU67-EIP, CPU68-EIP.
NJ Series MAC (all CPUs).
Software:
Omron InduSoft Web Studio, Operator Workstation (4,000 Tags) or higher with Omron
CX Compolet application middleware.
Operator Workstation packages of Omron InduSoft Web Studio include CX Compolet with
Sysmac Gateway, which is required for Tag Access to Omron PLCs and MACs. Packages
below Operator Workstation only include SYSMAC Gateway runtime without CX Compolet,
and do not allow access by Tag Name.
2. CX Compolet Installation
1. Install CX Compolet either before or after installing InduSoft Web Studio. This is a
separate installation from InduSoft Web Studio.
2. During the installation of CX Compolet, select the options shown below. Follow
these steps closely. Not all the steps are the default values!

3. CX Compolet Configuration
1. Navigate to the Omron \ SYSMAC Gateway programs group and click Sysmac
Gateway Console.
.
2. In the SYSMAC Gateway Console, if the Status is currently Start, click Stop to
stop the service, to allow for configuration changes.
3. Select Port 2: Ethernet, and click Properties.

4. Select the LAN Card to be used, and verify that the IP Address is correct. A static IP
Address is recommended, but not required. Verify that Automatically open port at
startup is selected.

5. If this is a development PC, it is suggested that the Startup be set for Manual to
allow the PC to suspend / resume faster. On a InduSoft Web Studio workstation, set
the Startup for Auto. Click Start to start the service if it is not currently running.

4. Configuring CJ2 / NJ Tags
1. CJ2: In CX Programmer, create the tags in the Global Symbols table. These Tags
can be of any data type, including user defined Data Types The Tags can be arrays,
as configured in the Advanced Settings. To allow InduSoft Web Studio to access
the Tags by name, select Net. Variable. The Publication, Input, or Output type
does not matter for access from InduSoft.

2. NJ: In Sysmac Studio, create the tags in the Global Variables. These Tags can be
of any data type, including user defined Data Type. The Tags can be arrays. To
allow InduSoft Web Studio to access the Tags by name, select Publish Only,
Input, or Output in the Network Publish column. Only set Input for physical
EtherNet/IP Input points, and Output for physical EtherNet/IP Output points. Use
Publish Only for tags that are not EtherNet/IP physical inputs or physical outputs.

5. Configuring InduSoft Web Studio
1. In InduSoft Web Studio, click on the Comm tab, and then right click on Drivers.
Select Add/Remove drivers.

2. Highlight Omron OMRON FINS Gateway Protocol, and click Select. Click
OK.

3. Right click on OMRON, and click Insert.

4. Create a driver worksheet as with any other driver in InduSoft Web Studio. The
specific fields for Tag Name access are described below.
Station: <IP Address of Controller>:<SYSMAC Gateway Port ID>: <Product>
IP Address =CJ 2 or NJ IP Address
SYSMAC Gateway Port ID =2 for EtherNet/IP
Product =NJ or CJ 2.
192.168.1.44:2:NJ as an example
Header =TAG. Note: this must be all capital letters.
5. Under the Tag Name column, list each InduSoft Web Studio Tag, and in the Address
column, list the corresponding Omron CJ 2 / NJ Tag. Each and every tag and
member of a user defined data type must be listed separately.
