law, Surface tension.

Project Work:

 Project in Molecular Biology at Edubiotech, Bangalore

Name: Techniques in Molecular Biology.
Duration: 18 October 2003 – 6 November 2003
Team Size: 9
The project included learning the techniques used in molecular biology like isolation of
DNA from sources of cauliflower and liver, isolation of RNA from cauliflower, isolation of
protein from spleen, use of restriction endo nucleases, use of ligases, and study of
palindrome sequences.

Role: As a trainee I learnt all the techniques and repeated the procedure for more
practice.

Academic Projects:

 Project on Genetic Disorders in Humans at Karnataka Science College Dharwad

Name: Genetic disorders in Humans
Team size: 7
Duration: 3 months from November 2003 to January 2003

The project included study of Down’s syndrome, CRI-DU-CHAT syndrome Turner’s

syndrome , Klienfelter’s syndrome, Patau’s syndrome, Phenylketonuria, , Cystic fibrosis,
Albinism, Schizophrenia, Sickle cell anemia, Mania, Huntington’s chorea, Color blindness,
Muscular dystrophy, PTC tasting, Hypertichosis, Polydactylity, Hemophilia, Pie balding.

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a member of the team we visited Karnataka institute of mental health, Dharwad and
collected information about diseases like mania, schizophrenia and genetical traits like
hypertrichosis. We visited Dr. Steiner’s school for mentally retarded, Dharwad and
collected information about downs syndrome, criduchat syndrome, klienfeltere’s
syndrome, alkaptonuria, genetical traits like pie balding and polydactylity. I surfed the net
for information of diseases like muscular dystrophy the causes, necessary precautions
and treatment of these diseases.

 Project on species of Crotalaria at Karnataka Science College Dharwad

Name: Isolation of DNA from various species of crotalaria and finding the genetic
relationship
Duration: 2 months April 2004- June 2004
Team Size: 10
The project included growing of plants of crotalaria species and isolation of DNA and
establishing the genetic relationship of plants.
Roles & Responsibilities: As a member of the team I was given the responsibility to grow
crotalaria juncea and crotalaria indicus and isolation of DNA from the seeds of these.
The genetic relationship was later provided by surfing through net

 Project on retro synthesis of Organo cobaloximes (sent for summer projects)

Name: Retro synthesis of orgnocobaloximes
Team Size: 1
The proposed project includes preparation of synthetic cobaloximes usingNABH4, t- butyl
pyridine and benzyl chloride.

 Project on an attempt to synthesize of five member cyclic compound with carbon

mercury bond(sent for summer projects)
Name: An attempt to Synthesize five member cyclic compound with carbon mercury
bond
Team Size: 1
The proposed project includes an attempt to synthesize five member cyclic compound
with carbon mercury bond using benzyl bromide, o-chloro mercury phenol, dry acetone
K2CO3, which yields ether of mercury chloride which is further treated with acetic
anhydride, pyridine and dry benzene to yield the target molecule.
