In early April, IT Green Lights strategic client, OMV-Petrom, was awarded the "Highly Commended" distinction
in the Energy Manager of the Year category at one of the most important Environment and Energy events in
Europe - Environment & Energy Awards 2014. The competition is one of the most esteemed corporate
sustainability events, the jury is composed only by respected industry experts, and with the help of IT Green
Lights extensive technology know-how, OMV-Petrom submitted an innovative project for the competition. This
is why we are pleased to invite you to read an interview with Virginia Burloiu, Program Manager PEACE &
Energize, about Petroms participation in this competition and its collaboration with IT Green Light.

In the first three months since implementation we have seen a 12 % decrease of fuel consumption,
compared to the previous year, while the companys production considerably increased

First of all, congratulations for the recognized efforts! We were pleased to receive the news and be part of
this success. What prompted you to participate in this competition?
The decision to participate followed an invitation from the Petroms Director of CSR programs, Mona Nicolici.
As we recently developed and implemented an energy efficiency program FANICA - we considered it a great
opportunity to show our commitment to energy saving and we decided to submit our application.
How many projects were submitted in the Energy Manager of the Year category?
Each team had a private presentation to the jury, but overall there were 13 categories, each with just one
award, regardless of how many projects were accepted as finalists. The distinction received by Petrom for the
FANICA project was awarded in only 4 of the 13 categories.




How did you impress the Environment & Energy Awards jury?
Right from the application documents, we clearly showed the exceptional reduction in the internal fuel
consumption generated by the FANICA solution. The first result after FANICAs implementation was the
reduction of fuel consumption with 12% in the first 3 months, saving us 2 million Euros. Keep in mind that this
result was obtained with the oil production continuously growing. We expect the results to keep improving
during 2014, as FANICA has enabled Petrom to introduce improved administrative procedures.

case of an increase of the actual costs, and to take the appropriate actions to generate massive
savings

What were the strengths that lead to Petrom being awarded the Highly Commended distinction?
Nothing could summarize the strengths of the FANICA solution better than the jurys statement - The project
brought something very new to these awards with a top-level auditing and monitoring focus on fuel usage
within an energy production company (OMV-Petrom) which will be shortly applied to electricity and gas usage
within the same company. Its in-house design and application of fine data analysis and reporting technology
delivered admirable savings to a sector not always known for championing energy conservation.
Which are Petroms biggest gains from this competition?
As the largest company in Romania by profit, its important for us to demonstrate our responsibility for how we
use resources for internal processes. We take our responsibility seriously, which is obvious in the projects we
implement. The awarded FANICA project, was launched on October 15, 2013 and has already cut fuel
consumption by 12% . This is remarkable. For the long term, FANICA will give us the opportunity to monitor fuel
consumption in real time, to be proactive in case of an increase of the actual costs (i.e. due to obsolete
equipment), and to take the appropriate actions to generate massive savings.

To what extent the collaboration and the solution implemented by IT Green Light helped Petrom win this
award?
Petrom and IT Green Light worked side by side, and the entire concept was 100% custom designed to meet the
exact needs of Petrom s E & P division. IT Green Light brought its extended technical and IT know-how to
develop and complete the initial concept proposed by Petrom. The entire collaboration was both creative and
effective. Their support gave us the opportunity to optimize OPEX and not use CAPEX, ensured the reduction of
internal resources needed for implementation and maintenance, all with guaranteed SLA and technical
support. The entire collaboration has been an exceptional partnership and the results speak for themselves.
Will you participate again in 2015? What other energy efficiency plans do you have for this year?
Yes, we would like to participate again next year if we are invited. For 2014 we planned, and actually already
started work, a similar pilot project for electricity consumption efficiency.
Have you attended or entered other competitions dedicated to energy and the environment?
Yes, in May, Petrom will be participating with the FANICA solution at the third edition of the Romanian Energy
Awards 2014, an elite event to recognize, reward and celebrate the success of the most prominent firms in the
energy and natural resources fields. The Romanian Energy Awards recognize the outstanding success of
companies in special projects, areas of business, but also their overall involvement in the development of
Romanias business climate.
