Acoupleweeksago,wewroteinourquarterlyletterthatwebelievethatanarrowgroup
ofcoolkidstockshavedisconnectedfromtraditionalvaluationsandformedabubble.This
gotalotofcriticism.Halfthecriticsthoughtweweretalkingourbook,eventhoughwe
didntnamenames.Theotherhalfwereupsetthatwedidnttellthemwhichstockswe
wereshort.
Sincewecantseemtopleaseanybody,Ivedecidedtovalidatebothcriticisms.
Today,Imgoingtoillustratethebubblebasketdoingadeepdiveintooneofthe
companies,whilenotdisclosingtheothers.
Thiscompanyisanexcellentcompanywithanexcellentproduct,runbyawellmeaning
andhonest,thoughoccasionallypromotionalCEO.Theworldmaybeabetterplaceifit
succeeds,andeventhoughweareshort,Iaminnowayrootingforittofail.
Itsmainproblemisthatitisntpositionedtosucceedthewaythebullshope,asthe
assumptionsthebullsaremakingarenotplausible.Thestockissimplyatthewrongprice.
Itscaughtupinabubbleandcouldeasilyfall80%ormorefromitsrecentpeak.
Letmeintroduceyoutoathenahealth.

Ithinkathenadeservesasmallercapitalization,andImnotjustreferringtohowitfailsto
capitalizethefirstletterofitsname.Letsstartwithwhatdoesathenado?
AthenaprovidessoftwareandservicesprimarilytowhatiscalledtheAmbulatory
healthcaremarket,whichconsistsmostlyofnonhospitalbasedphysicianpractices.
Itsservicesincludebill collectionandclaimsprocessing,electronichealthrecords,patient
communication,andcarecoordination.

AthenaClinicals isaserviceenabledbysoftwarethatmanagespatientheathrecords

AthenaCollector ispracticemanagementsoftwarecombinedwithoutsourcedrevenue
