Resin Data Sheet

An Innovative Engineering Company SI-ATP-4

DESCRIPTION:
SI-ATP-4 is an “addition” cure, high temperature resistant resin system. It is
highly suited for fabrication of structural composite components such as tactical
missile bodies, satellite components and other structural components that require
dimensional stability at severe operating environments. SI-ATP-4 has a service
temperature of about 700 °F (370 °C) continuous, and can operate short term at
1200 °F (649 °C). It is also suitable for applications that require char formation at
high temperatures.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:
This relatively low viscosity resin can be filament wound, resin transfer molded
(RTM), or used in a VaRTM process with a slight elevation in temperature to
further reduce the viscosity.

PROCESSING & CURE:

Cure:
Resin may be warmed to 150°F (66°C) in a temperature controlled water bath if a
lower viscosity is desired for adequate fiber wet-out. Impregnation on a hot table
will also improve wet-out. Additional heat in the form of radiant heat may be
placed in front of the part being wound to further reduce the viscosity and
improve fiber wet-out.

• In the case of filament wound parts, after winding the part must be
rotated in an oven at 260°F to 270°F (127°C to 132°C) until gellation is
achieved.
• The part temperature must then be raised to 350°F (177°C) for an
additional 2 hours.
• Post Cure -- Ramp at 1°F to 2°F (-17°C)/minute to 510°F (266°C) ±
10°F (-12°C). Once part temperature has reached 510°F (266°C), hold
for 4 hours. Part may be post cured up to 24 hours to maximize
performance at 500°F (260°C).
• Cool down at 1°F (-17°C)/minute to 150°F (66°C) before removing part
from oven.

SAFETY AND HANDLING:

Wear protective clothing when working with SI-ATP-4. It is mandatory that the
user reads and understands the contents of the Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) before working with this resin.

prolonged, can result in chemical burns.
Can cause moderate eye irritation and
allergic skin reactions.
MEDICAL CONDITION AGGRAVATED: Allergy, eczema, or skin conditions.

PACKAGING AND AVAILABILITY:

Resin is sold in 5-gallon kits of part A and part B, but can be supplied in 55-gallon
drums and carboys or truck trailers.

Mix Ratio (by weight):

Part A = 100
Part B = 2

Pot life of mixed resin is about two hours at 200°F (93°C). Shelf life of part A and
part B is about six months when stored at room temperature in a sealed
container.

DISPOSAL:
Mixed resin waste should be stored under a localized hood for gellation.
After the resin has hardened it may be disposed of according to local regulations.

STORAGE:
SI-ATP-4 is stable at ambient conditions, but if handled improperly it may
react slowly over time. Never store SI-ATP-4 Part A or Part B or a mixture there
of in warm areas near heat sources or hot equipment, or even in direct sunlight,
because the shelf life or pot life may be compromised. It is also important not to
submit large quantities of the mixed Part A and Part B to extreme heat.

Long Term Storage –

If SI-ATP-4 is not going to be used for an extended period of time, storage
in sealed containers at 40°F (4°C) or below is recommended. Storage at higher
temperatures may adversely affect the shelf life. The maximum temperature this
product should be subjected to while thawing for use should not exceed 100°F
(38°C). To facilitate handling, warm the container gradually by letting it stand in
an area at room temperature (approximately 75°F or 24°C) prior to use. Never
accelerate warming by using hot ovens, band heaters, hot plates, open flames,
or any means that could cause a “hot spot.” As with other reactive systems, such
practices may initiate an uncontrollable exothermic reaction. Contamination,
especially by acidic or basic substances, may also cause a violent exothermic
reaction and must be avoided.
