ASWIN NAIRS CURRICULUM VITAE

I am a currently a student at the University of Edinburgh who has just commenced his 3rd
Year in a joint-degree course of Economics with Finance MA (Hons) which is a four year
course. In my academic course so far I have gained experience in the fields of economics,
finance, business and marketing. Beyond this I had a brief spell pursuing medicine before
deciding that my heart lay in a different field of academia. My time in medicine has given
me certain transferable skills such as dealing with customers in my experience of handling
and talking to patients. It has also provided me with an insight into the medical and
pharmaceutical industries.
The way to best describe myself is that I am someone who knows their capabilities but
always strives to expand upon them and better myself further. I feel by knowing ones limits
when approaching a task you can realistically approach matters and find yourself not left
surprised by the outcomes of decisions. By not being surprised by outcomes you always can
plan to ensure you are prepared to deal with these outcomes to ones betterment. This
mindset and a motivation to be someone in life and not just sit idle is a central drive that
pushes me forwards. I am great believer in the saying that if you dont take a step forward in
life, you will always be in the same place.
So what can I offer your organisation is the question? I am firstly fully aware that my
education is only partially complete therefore there are areas of knowledge which I may be
lacking in. However that is why am I am in education. What I do offer is that I am hard
working; I can pick up concepts and apply them quickly; I can work individually and within a
team. Essentially I can get the job done that you set me if you give me the tools to achieve
them. This and my belief in my own abilities as well as self-determination to achieve the
tasks both given to me and set by myself is at the core of who I am. These along with having
a bit of common sense as well as being open and social individual are traits I possess that
have proven most valuable to me in life towards being successful.
My team abilities were developed from the various sports I pursued and participated in
at school, regional and national levels, most of these were team sports. Playing,

PERSONAL PROFILE
participating as well as captaining teams to success has allowed me to experience and learn
the value of co-operation and functioning as a unit to successfully achieve results. It has also
developed both my communications skills and an understanding of the importance of
communication within a unit. I think the most useful insight it has given me though is that a
group is not about an individual but a collective effort and that helping to better everyone in
your team and passing on your knowledge and co-operating to attain a better goal makes
not just yourself but the team as a whole more capable to achieve better results.
Application of these traits has allowed me to successfully navigate and manage group
projects at university leading to positive results and achieving the targets we as a group had
to do in the manner which was set to us and in the time frame given to us. . It has allowed
me also to create and co-ordinate charity events. Furthermore these skills have allowed me
to best assess how to reach consumers in my role as an event manager and PR for one of
Edinburghs most prestigious nightclubs. This enabled me to become their best sales
performer last year in terms of getting customers to the club. As such I feel I am an
individual capable of bringing something different to your work environment and would
love the opportunity to work for you and be part of a unit that helps your business succeed.
