Abstract: Over 81% of the human capacity in the Catholic Charities network comes from volunteers. This institute further develops the volunteer management competency of Catholic Charities to create volunteer opportunities that positively impact clients, volunteers and the agency. By investing in volunteer management, agencies serve more clients, provide opportunity to live out the Christian call to serve and invite people of good will to reduce poverty in America.

Title All Aboard! It Takes the Entire Agency to Engage Volunteers Proposed Presenter (name and title) Cindy Casey, Volunteer Manager, Catholic Charities of Fort Worth Abstract (50 words or less) From preparing staff to preparing the volunteer this workshop provides a comprehensive overview of engaging volunteers. With a mission focused volunteer program, leadership commitment and a trained, prepared staff the foundation for a positive volunteer experience is built. Learning Objectives (minimum of 2) 1. Attendees will be able to articulate why staff should integrate and support centralizing volunteer engagement. 2. Attendees will have new context and catalysts when brainstorming how everyone in the agency engages volunteers.
Title Acquiring Data and Not Afraid to Use It! Proposed Presenter (name and title) Sandy Buck, Volunteer Coordinator, Catholic Charities of Charlotte Abstract (50 words or less) Sandy Buck spent a year researching and acquiring a volunteer management system. Using her experience as a case study Sandy will provide insights and strategies for agencies looking to invest in a system to manage volunteers. Once the system is developed, Tony Guse will show how CC Milwaukee leverages volunteer data to procure grant funding and to tell the story of the agency programs. Learning Objectives (minimum of 2) 1. Attendees will learn what volunteer data is important to track and how to select a system to store the data. 2. Attendees will learn how to use volunteer data to advance the Catholic Charities mission.
Title Protecting the Agency and Clients Proposed Presenter (name and title) Thomas Klein, CEO, Verified Volunteers Mark Hahn, Director of Volunteers, Catholic Charities Denver Abstract (50 words or less) Screening volunteers is a key component to minimizing the risk of volunteers. The risks associated with screening continue to evolve as a new platform empowers volunteers to manage their own screening. Learning Objectives (minimum of 2) 1. Attendees will learn the innovative system created by Verified Volunteers that empowers volunteers to manage their individual background checks saving time and money for Catholic Charities agencies. 3
Title Free Professionals to Reduce Poverty Proposed Presenter (name and title) Jeff Brady, Manager of Volunteerism, United Way Abstract (50 words or less) Recruiting and retaining are fundamental to successful volunteer engagement. When engaging professionals to volunteer, recruitment and retention techniques need to be clear, compelling and compliant. Learning Objectives (minimum of 2) 1. Attendees will learn recruitment and retention techniques that engage professionals in a volunteer capacity. 2. Attendees will learn compliance issues special to professionals.
