ABSTRACT
Psoriasis is a common chronic skin disease, which affects the 2% of the world
population. Still it is a rarely responding disease even under the light of sophisticated
modern medicine. Vamanakarma is an effective remedy for many skin ailments.
Effective response of shodana karma in psoriasis is well understood since long years.
The present study is carried out due to the interest of practice of Vamana karma in
psoriasis and its assessment with a latest technique PASI score.

Method: -
It was a clinical study with a pre and post test design in 20 patients, were diagnosed as
psoriasis and fulfilling the criteria of undergoing the process of vamana karma were
selected. Patients were subjected to deepana pachana with Panchakola Phanta, after
proper amapachna arohana snehapana was administered till obtaining samyak snigda
lakshans with Murchita ghruta. After that they were subjected to Abyanga with
Manjisthadi Aditya Paka taila and Parisheka with Nimba Karanja Kwatha for two days.
On the previous night of vamana Kaphothkleshakara diet was prescribed. Vamana was
induced with Vachadi yoga. After vamana dhumapana was done and proper assessments
were taken. Patients were subjected to sumsarjana krama based on their shuddhi
lakshanas. P.A.S.I. score, candle grease sign, Auspitz sign, Koebner Phenomenon were
noted on the day of starting of deepana pachana and just after the last day of samsrjana
krama.

Result: -
The average time taken to attain Samyak Snigdata in max. patients was 4 days.
The average time taken for completion of vamana karma in max. patients was
16-30 minutes.
Study showed significant improvement of psoriasis (43.71% improvement in
P.A.S.I. score) within a short span of 23 days of vamana karama course.

Interpretation and conclusion: -
Morbid kapha as well as bahudoshavastha plays a major role in the
manifestation of psoriasis, thus vamana karma is ideal here.
Diagnosing in ayurveda terminology is challenging since the presentations of
psoriasis is varied from patient to patients.
Apart from the random selection of the patients, this study is giving the clue that
much more result may achieved by repeated shodana karma along with shamana
oushadhi.
