Install Active Directory Windows Server 2012

Active Directory is a ROLE

Strong Password
Network setting, such as static adress are configured

You can install Active Directory on any server in your enviroment if that server is In Active
Directory.
You get a list of servers in server list because in Windows Server 2012 you can install Role
on any server form any server.This i new in Windows Server 2012.
When installing Role on Windows Server 2012, Server automatic add additional Features that
is requered for each Role you select.
o In old days of Windows Server you had know what additional features you haved to
install when instlling Roles on server. In other words you need some stuff to install
Role on server. You dont have to do this now because Windows server automaticly
add features that need to be installed. This is new in Windows Server 2012
o For example when installing Active Directory it automaticly add features and role you
need to install Active Directory. Tools like Group Policy Management.

Components Descriptions

Forest A collection of one or more Active Directory domains that share a common logical
structure, directory schema, directory configuration and global catalog.

Tree A collection of domains that share a common DNS namespace

Domain The core administrative unit of AD DS

Organizational
Unit ( OU )
Containers in AD DS which provide a framework of administrtion and Group Policy links

Site A collection of AD objects defined by their physical location

Schema Defines all attributes for all objects in AD

Partition Local Section of the actual AD DS Database

Data Store The files on each domain controller that store the AD DS information

Global Catalog Servers Domain controlers which host teh global catalog, which is partail, read-only
copy of all the objects in the forest.

controler ( RODC )
Contain a specal read-only copy of the AD DS database.

Forest Functional Level
o You select how far back you are going to support operationg system. You can go as
far as Windows Server 2003. If you are going to support Windows Server 2003
Domina Controler in funcional level you select Windows Server 2003. In other words
What is the olderst domina controler you are going to support.
Domain Functional Level
o What is the olderst domian functional level you are going to support.
Domain Name Systemm ( DNS ) server
o You have to use dns for Active Directoy funcionality.

o Global Catalog helps searching in Active Directoy
o Its like yellow pages in Active Directory
When specify location for AD DS datababase its good to store this information on other disk
to increase perfomance.
You can export powerhell scipt to file and use it to create other servers.
