After struggling to conceive my rst daughter, I was delighted to learn I was going to have another baby. It wasnt until 21 weeks
that I got the wonderful surprise we were having twins! The staff at Ministry Saint Michaels Hospital was amazing
every step of the way. My nurse Emma was helpful with assisting with breastfeeding, so I could spend more time resting.
I love building furniture for my family when I have free time, but nothing compares to building memories with them.

LETTER FROM THE TE
Summertime and the living is (supposed to be) easy
When we think of summer, its the scent of freshly mowed grass, the crack of bat
hitting baseball and the feeling of sand in between our toes that come to mind
not stress. But the warmer months can be chockfull of demands on our time.
If youre feeling a bit burnt out between shuttling the kids to swimming lessons,
mowing the lawn, and making desserts for the local community or church celebration, consider taking a moment to yourself to de-stress. These methods can help:
Breathe deeply. Taking slow, mindful breaths slows your heart rate and lowers
blood pressure. Set aside a few undisturbed minutes to just breathe.
If youve never done breathing exercises before, start by sitting or standing up
straight. Close your eyes, if it feels natural to you. Inhale slowly through your
nose, focusing on filling your abdomen. You want your belly not the upper
part of your chest to expand the most. Slowly exhale through your mouth.
Want to build up this particular relaxation skill? Consider taking a meditation
or deep breathing class.
Enjoy essential oils. Aromatherapy contains the word therapy for a reason;
certain scents can sooth. Lavender and chamomile are perhaps the best known
relaxation oils, but also consider diffusing ylang ylang, frankincense, bergamot,
or other essential oils in your living and working spaces.
Essential oils can be useful in a number of other arenas too. Ann McCotter
shares essential oil-based household and personal care product recipes that will
help you Save money and reduce toxins.
Get active. A quick walk on your lunch break or a few good stretches can boost
endorphins the feel-good hormones your body produces thereby reducing
stress. Heather LaFond provides some great advice this month on how you can

Quench your
thirst with the
right water
By Dr. Jack Janssen
hen was the last time you drank a nice tall glass of
water and really felt like your thirst was quenched? If it
was water from a municipal water system, did it have
a chlorine smell coming off it as you drank it? Was there a slight
metallic taste remaining in your mouth? And after that big glass of
water, as you walked about or moved around, could you hear and
feel that water sloshing around in your belly?
These are just some of the reasons why people drink less and
less water as they age. Over time, this diminishing intake of water
has a profoundly negative effect on a persons health and the basic
functions of the body.
In his book, Your Bodys Many Cries for Water, F. Batmanghelidj, M.D., describes the progression of what happens internally
to the body when it does not receive the appropriate amount of
fresh, clean water. There are several very easily remedied negative processes that begin and eventually act like a snowball rolling
down a mountain gathering size and speed and damaging
capacity!

KANGAN WATER
Change your water Change your life!
Starting with the premise that our bodies are made up of around
75-80 percent water, it makes sense that we need to replenish that
on a regular basis. Every breath we breathe emits moisture and
water vapor; we can easily see that in the cold winter weather
as we puff out clouds of steamy warm breath. And, obviously, it
is not just in cold weather that we exhale that water vapor, but
rather, every breath, every day. As we perspire, not only do we lose
precious water, we also excrete physiologic waste products, as with
all our elimination processes (urination, defecation, etc.). We are
continually giving off and eliminating water from our body. If not
adequately replaced, visible signs of degradation became apparent some kindly call them laugh lines or crows feet and other
benign titles, but the reality is that those are early signs of global
dehydration in the body.
When we take it down to the cellular level, that same dehydration can be much more dangerous than a few wrinkles or some
sagging skin. When the cell gets dehydrated, its ability to fully
regulate its internal environment diminishes: toxins begin to build
up and much of the cells normal function is disturbed.
We need to continually be drinking good water that can get into
our body and help rehydrate it starting at that most basic unit:
the cell.
Water that is micro-clustered is able to be absorbed very easily,
right down to the cellular level. Micro-clustered water is water

A mindfulness

the relationship, and that when you run from the relationship, you
are also running from yourself. You are running from a trapped
emotional pattern that will continue to show up in your life until
you are able to bring it into your awareness and consciously
change it.
One mindful practice that I find helpful for my own relationship and in helping couples who come for counseling, is what I
call the mindfulness of thinking exercise. You can use this practice when you become aware of judging and blaming your partner.
You will find no awareness, epiphany and no truth about yourself
through judging, analyzing or blaming your partner. It truly is all
about you when your goal is personal growth and happiness. It is
not about him/her, its about you.

cities, this can still be created. If a child takes karate in Neenah but
lives in Milwaukee during the summer, perhaps find a studio there.
Having a family calendar is an easy tool to use so that everyone
is on the same page. For children who are not yet reading, having
picture images on the calendar can help. (For example, a picture of
mom/dad when it is their weekend can be posted on the calendar
instead of words.)
Discipline: Rules are rules. If Parent A has a 10 oclock curfew
and Parent B has a midnight curfew, the child is only going to use
this as leverage against each parent. I have seen in cases like this
that each parent wants to be the favorite, but when it comes to
raising a well-rounded, law-abiding citizen, children need to learn
that they cannot manipulate their way out of the family rules.
Counseling, mediation and support groups can benefit all those
in situations as I have described. My goal is that I provide folks
with simple tools to make their lives easier and hopefully happier.
No one is perfect, if we were, it would get pretty boring!

s the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, its
common for people to venture out of the gym and take
their workouts outside. The fresh air and sunshine can
improve our mood, immune system health and bone density by
boosting our bodys levels of vitamin D.
Over the past few years, boot camps and other outdoor fitness
classes have become popular during the summer months. If you
dont have access to an outdoor fitness class, what can you do to get
the benefits of outdoor exercise?
Interval training involves short bursts of higher intensity activity followed by a period of active recovery. This form of training
allows individuals to increase their fitness level, lung capacity and

Make exercise fun by going back to some of your favorite childhood activities: jump rope, hopscotch, hula hoop or even a game
of H.O.R.S.E. Another great way to workout is by using outdoor
playgrounds! Swing sets do not have to be just for kids, they can
be excellent tools for exercise. Monkey bars make a great station to
do pull-ups. The bottom of slides are an excellent means of doing
reverse crunches, incline or decline push-ups, step-ups, elevated
lunges or a guide for squats. Various bars attached to playgrounds
can be used to do body rows. With an active imagination, the
possibilities are endless!
www.naturespathways.com
Boot camps are fun and effective. They require little to no equipment and can be done anywhere! All that is needed is your body
and some knowledge of bodyweight exercises. Some exercises
to try are squats, hip bridges, lunges, push-ups, planks, jumping
jacks, burpees and the list goes on! Its very easy to find lists of
these types of exercises and even descriptions of proper technique
online.

Debit card
use and
safety
By Alan M. Zierler
a 2013 FDIC Consumer News report, you only have two days to
report a lost or stolen debit card before your liability goes up to
$500. And if you dont report the loss or theft within 60 days, you
may be liable for even more.
Does that mean you should stop using your debit card? Of
course not. But using your card wisely can lessen the chances of
your becoming a debit-card fraud victim. Remember: Every time
you use your debit card, you directly access your checking account
funds; so be sure to track your debit transactions to help keep your
checking account safe and secure.
Be aware of skimmers
When paying for a meal at a restaurant, its not uncommon for the
server to take your debit card to the back to ring up your order.
Unfortunately, this gives untrustworthy types the opportunity
to skim or copy your card information. Using your debit card
to order take out, hold a hotel room, or purchase other services
via phone or online especially if you give out the three-digit
security code on the back could also put your account at risk.
To help safeguard your transactions, walk up to the restaurant

doing transactions on the phone or via the internet, its best to use

Career women
in transition:
retirement or
renewal?
By Liv Arafat
et us first acknowledge the fact that the largest generation that has ever lived, born between 1946 and 1964, also
contains the first group of educated women who entered the
professional workforce in unprecedented numbers. They changed
the face of society and the expectations of girls throughout the
Western world. These are the women who fought for and took
advantage of the changes created by the Womens Movement of the
60s and 70s. Through joint efforts, they achieved the relatively equal
educational, professional and political opportunities we now take
for granted. This is the great population of women now poised to
redefine the meaning of retirement.
The first cohort of female baby boomers leaving their lifelong
careers has noticed that the prevailing model of retirement does not
exactly suit them. Their needs at this stage are not the same as those
of their retiring male colleagues or women of the past, and once
again they have found themselves in a situation where they have to
create the change they want. Women constitute the majority of the
50-plus population and many are now asking themselves how to
use this female energy to make the world a better place. They want
to leave a worthy legacy for their children and grandchildren, but
are not willing to sacrifice their own happiness in the process.
Fortunately, there are now some resources available to retiring
women, as new concepts are evolving and being shared to address
this reality. One is the book Project Renewment by Bernice Bratter
and Helen Dennis subtitled as The First Retirement Model for
Career Women. Bernice Bratter is a licensed family and marriage
therapist and the executive director of the Los Angeles Womens
Foundation, and Helen Dennis is a nationally recognized specialist
in aging, employment and retirement. The word renewment is a
word they made up from the two words retirement and renewal.
They felt the word retirement had too many negative connotations

not really experience the sites they visited because they only saw
them through the camera lens. Today, we could say that about
most of the population of our country, and the distractions are
not limited to cameras, although selfies are the latest diversion.
Here are my recommended daily allowances of spiritual
nutrition:
For each person in the family, five minutes of unplugged solitary quiet
For each person, five minutes of reading something inspiring
offline
For family time, five minutes per family member if you
have four family members, thats 20 minutes per day spent
together without distraction, perhaps over dinner
Once a week, one to two hours of time with a community that
nurtures the entire family, whether it is a spiritual community,
a volunteer organization or something else that encourages
real connection
Why not start this weekend? Recreate your individual and family
life by ensuring daily spiritual nourishment! Slow down, unplug
and see the beauty all around you. Youll be glad you did!

the many questions associated with the extra 25 years of life they
have been granted due to increased lifespan and improved health.
The issues are many and varied, ranging from the serious to the
mundane: the meaning and purpose of work and leisure; caregiving for parents or a spouse; relationships with children, grandchildren, friends and family; aging and beauty; and the importance of
joy and laughter. In the process, they may be shaping a model of
how to age well and forging a path for others to follow. My dream
is that the influx of untapped positive energy from all these smart
and wise grandmothers will create a global shift in values that can
enhance the health and well-being of all women and contribute to
a sustainable future for all on earth.

The idea that as long as we burn more calories than we consume we will lose weight,
is completely dead wrong. Just eat less and
exercise more is the mantra we hear from
the food industry and government agencies. We keep hearing its all about moderation, but how is that working for America?
Our nation is becoming sicker as each year
goes by. The truth is, there are more people
focusing on counting calories versus
simply counting chemicals in their food.

exercise to lose weight without changing your diet is asking for failure. You can
change your diet and lose weight, but if you
exercise and keep your diet the same, you
may gain some muscle, improve endurance
and be healthier overall, but you wont shed
many pounds. The simple fact is that you
cannot exercise your way out of a bad diet.

Korean red ginseng, aka Panax ginseng, defuses into the body
where it manages pain, improves memory and recall, and, with
regular use, improves immune response, helping to manage stress
and relaxation.
Korean red ginseng is the most effective ginseng available. It was
given its name because of its diverse variety of health benefits. It
has the Latin name Panax, which means cure-all. For thousands
of years, it has been used by Asian cultures; today, Korean ginseng
is used throughout the world and is believed to deliver positive
benefits to the body and mind.
The earliest uses of Korean red ginseng can be traced to Korea,
where it was used as an energizing tonic. In recent decades it has
been studied by western medical science and found to have impressive health benefits, including pain relief, enhanced immune function, anti-diabetic effects, enhanced liver function, improved blood
pressure, and anti-stress effects. Its known to improve sexual function and has anti-aging effects. Health benefits reported by correct
use of Korean red ginseng include mental clarity and focus, healthier immune system, cleansing and detoxifying, healthier blood
pressure and stimulation of nitric oxide synthesis.
Active components in Korean red ginseng are saponins
called ginsenosides, which are distinct and more effective when
compared to other varieties of ginseng. There are a wide variety of
amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and more than 40 minerals found
in Korean red ginseng.
Korean red ginseng is not easy to grow; it must be grown organically and requires more than five years before it can be harvested.
The soil requirements for growth are very specific: Soil must be
rich with nutrients for ginseng to survive. Sometimes, the soil
must remain fallow for up to 10 years before the next crop of
Korean red ginseng can be planted.

Silver
Next, I will touch on the mineral silver. The antimicrobial properties of silver have been known to cultures all around the world for
many centuries. The Phoenicians stored water and other liquids
in silver-coated bottles to discourage contamination by microbes.
Silver dollars used to be put into milk bottles to keep milk fresh.
Silvered water tanks of ships and airplanes are able to render water
potable for months. In addition, I myself use colloidal silver whenever I am exposed to any communicable virus in order to boost my
immune system and keep me from getting sick.
Can you imagine the immense health benefits you would receive
if you used these ingredients on a regular basis?

Fathers Day
facial
By Tim Kolb
I think most of us men see exfoliating skin like refinishing furniture the sanding and the chemical stripping being the heavy
lifting of the job. As it turns out, my face was in better shape than
I anticipated and no triage team was necessary.
Apparently facials are not all the same. A vitamin C regimen
designed for sun-damaged skin (I probably qualify), clarifying
enzyme for acne (still returning periodically, even in my late 40s),
a regimen for anti-aging (my wife may have actually signed me
up for this one) and even a different process for sensitive skin. I
was beginning to think Brittany might be mixing and matching
approaches, as even with my gray hair, I often seem to miraculously recover the complexion from my teens for periods of time.
I suppose I secretly hoped that a state-certified esthetician could
make my pores act their age.
While it would be nearly impossible for me to recount the
various steps of the process with any technical accuracy, I can say
that after 60 minutes, I walked out relaxed and I noticed a definite
difference in my skin tone afterward. I would recommend it even
if it at first seems a bit extravagant to the male species in the culture
of the upper Midwest. As much as we might grunt loudly and drag
our collective knuckles around in protest, men dont mind being
spoiled a bit (as long as our friends dont find out about it).
If youre still stuck on a Fathers Day gift, maybe something that
has no productive purpose or obligation other than just spoiling
Dad just this once is the perfect choice. However, you still may
want to stick with regular coffee if you stop on your way to the spa.
Some things probably shouldnt be tampered with.

Why can some people shift into a
dispassionate state of self-preservation
while others typically fall into a panic?
What does it take to simply observe and
then take action in the instant that we are
confronted with a situation like the one
Morris describes? The ancients called it
apatheia.
When we become scared, the amygdala
region of the brain begins to rapidly lay
down an extra set of memories that accompany the ones normally archived by other
parts of the brain.
In this way, frightening events are associated with richer and denser memories,
says David Eagleman, a neuroscientist at
Baylor College of Medicine. And the more
memory you have of an event, the longer
you believe it took.
Nowadays, a stoic is considered to be
someone who can endure pain or hardship
without showing emotion or complaining.
But, ancient Stoic philosophy encouraged
one to rise above emotion by learning to
self-observe and to objectively observe all
that surrounds us.
The question is not what you look at, but
what you see, said Henry David Thoreau.

group, illiacus, and psoas). When this musculature is tight, it can set up the IT band to
become over tightened, inflamed or injured
while working to stabilize the hip and knee
joints during repetitive-use activities such as
running and cycling, and it can cause adhesions in the IT band itself that develop from
metabolic wastes and toxins that tend to build
up from overuse in high demand activities.
In addition to medical massage techniques
aimed at resolving muscular dysfunction,
traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers
a powerful accessory technique for dealing
with injury to and/or severe dysfunction in
connective tissue: cupping. Both the IT band
and tendons of the rotator cuff are examples of connective tissue. From a soft tissue
manipulation standpoint, one of the aspects
that makes tendons so difficult to treat is the
fact that they are comprised of fibrous tissue
(mainly collagen) that does not have a direct
supply of blood. Because of these properties, tendons usually heal much more slowly
compared to muscle tissue that has a vast
network of blood vessels.

When deciding on what kind of care provider to hire, make sure to
evaluate your own feelings, comfort level and research. Tour different facilities and interview different providers. Ask friends and family
for references, and ask them their reason for the recommendation.
What made them like their provider might be the very thing you do
not want. When meeting with a provider for the first time, ask openended questions that allow them to elaborate. Ask their induction and
cesarean rate, vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) success rate or
hospital transport rate. Ask how they will help you achieve a healthy

A new kind

A functional medicine
provider can help you
get to the root cause

By Randi Mann, NP
lease picture your ideal care provider. Would she take the
time to get to the root cause of what is bothering you instead
of just prescribing a medication to treat your symptoms?
Would she meet with you for an hour or two and listen closely to
the details of your health issues because your health history and
symptoms are interconnected and everything is a clue to your
present state of health or disease? Would she help you to make
changes to your diet and to manage your stress? Is she knowledgeable enough to help you to identify any food sensitivities, eliminate
toxins and advise you to take appropriate supplements if needed?
Does she understand the differences between optimal range lab
values versus in the normal range lab values? Does she know
how to prescribe bioidentical hormones? Would you feel you are
in a healing partnership, working together to help you get well and
stay healthy instead of a hierarchical relationship?
If this description interests you, then I encourage you to find a
functional medicine practitioner who is passionate about getting
to the root cause of your symptoms. Many functional medicine
providers, in addition to being licensed medical doctors or nurse
practitioners, have completed the Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) training program through the
premier Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). The Institute for
Functional Medicine is a non-profit organization that is accredited
by the Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and
is dedicated to educating physicians and other health care practitioners in Functional Medicine. There are approximately 1,000
providers in the U.S. who have completed AFMCP training.
Functional medicine is needed because more people are suffering from complex, interconnected illnesses that are in part lifestyle-driven. Our current health care system is most successful

at treating trauma and acute illnesses, and doctors are trained to
prescribe drugs and/or surgery to treat the immediate problem
or symptom. This acute care approach does not work well for
preventing and treating the more complex, chronic health issues
and does not allow for differences in patients lifestyles, genetics, environment and toxic exposures. A large gap exists between
applying new scientific research and care delivered in medical
practices today. Many providers today do not have the time in
their schedule and are not trained at assessing the causes of underlying chronic disease and how to effectively use strategies such as
lifestyle interventions to treat and prevent disease.

hen Randi Mann, NP, considered starting her own healthcare practice, one thought
pushed her forward: There is a gap in
health care for women. This was the motivational force behind Randis determination to establish a unique wellness center
focused on women and womens health
issues Wise Woman Wellness.
Since its opening in 2009, Wise Woman
Wellness has developed and broadened
into a center for health, nutrition, lifestyle
management, and hormonal maintenance,
including thyroid, adrenals, estrogen,
progesterone and testosterone. Hormonebalancing therapies have become a cornerstone of the practice because of the role
hormones play in the overall health of the
individual and the far-reaching implications when hormones are out of balance.
Every function of the body is affected by
hormones.
Randi approaches health and wellness from a functional perspective. She
believes functional medicine is what medicine should look like today. Its a different,
innovative and comprehensive approach to
health care, with an emphasis on prevention and discovery of the underlying causes
of an illness, as opposed to treating only
symptoms. Functional medicine providers

Jane
welcomes
Divine
Energy Light
into her life
et me tell you about the most healthful and relaxing experience of my entire life. In my 44 years on this planet, I have
never felt the satisfaction, depth of peace and intense relaxation that I experienced during my sessions with Rev. Jennifer
Rietveld at Divine Energy Light Workers.
Over the course of one week, I participated in every service
offered, all of which were facilitated by Rev. Jen. The services
included spiritual counseling, a property blessing, guided meditation, chakra cleansing and balancing with custom-blended
doTERRA essential oils, an Access Consciousness Access Bars
session, a light work session, and the exquisite AromaTouch Technique experience.
The cumulative effect of the week cost less than a full day at the
spa and profoundly improved my physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Divine Energy Light Workers, located in Suite C at 611 N. Lynndale Drive, Appleton, was easy to find and had plenty of parking.
The studio was gently lit, softly hued, and filled with warmth the
moment Rev. Jennifer Rietveld, who is a petite pixie of a woman,
smiled at me upon my entry. My sessions began with spiritual
counseling, where Rev. Jen shared messages from my angels. She
also shares messages from our deceased loved ones, if they choose
to be present.
Later that evening, I returned for a group meditation that
explored past life experiences and facilitated the removal of blockages. Although I entered the meditation with no expectations, I
found myself profoundly moved by the past life memories that
came flooding into my consciousness.
76
The next day, I met Rev. Jen for a chakra cleansing and balancing
session. After a brief description of what to expect, I laid down on
the massage table face up and fully clothed. Rev. Jen placed a drop
of a custom-blended essential oil into my hands, which I rubbed
together and then deeply inhaled. The scent was amazing and to
my delight, we repeated the procedure with a new oil blend at each
blocked chakra. During the next hour, my seven main chakras
were cleared of blockages and re-energized with divine energy.
The experience was intensely peaceful and interesting; I saw
bold colors and pictures in my minds eye. I experienced feelings
of weightlessness, warmth and calming touch, although Rev. Jens
hands never touched my body. I left the session feeling grounded
and energized, with a peace of mind I have not felt in a long time.
Next was the light work session. Again welcomed by Rev. Jens
open-heartedness and warm smile, I laid on the table while she
worked closely with the Ascended Masters to channel color light
ray frequencies into my body from The Source. Throughout the
session, my body felt gentle vibrations. I also felt soft tissue manipulation of my right hand and wrist, as well as warmth and intense
vibration in the lumbar area of my back, both areas that have scar
tissue from past injuries. Immediately afterward and since my
session, I am without pain in both areas!
The next day, Rev. Jen performed an Access Consciousness
www.naturespathways.com
the spinal nerves. Additionally, oils are applied to the soles of the
feet. I found Rev. Jens technique to be superior to any form of foot
massage I have ever had.
Essential oils are applied that reduce inflammation, boost the
immune system, induce relaxation and detoxify the body. The
technique and oils stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system
and induce feelings of bliss. When the experience was over, it took
me almost two hours to get my head out of the clouds, as I was so
intensely relaxed. That night, I slept for 13 hours and awoke the
next morning feeling 20 years younger!
Divine Energy Light Workers was established by Rev. Jen in July
2011. She affectionately focuses on healing your being as a whole.
The services provided are physical, emotional, and spiritually
healing, with an affordable price tag. The professionalism along
with the profound results experienced make Divine Energy Light
Workers a staple source for those seeking to clear emotional or
karmic baggage; release negative, self-limiting beliefs; and experience the most intense relaxation of their lives.

Becoming a
fitness instructor
By Jaime Schmitt
ave you ever wondered what qualifies someone to teach your favorite group fitness class? Have they
taken the time to train to keep you safe and
help your each your goals?
I started attending aerial dance classes
in early 2012 and fell in love with the sport
of pole. I was thrilled when a local aerial
dance studio started looking for additional
instructors, as I saw this as an opportunity to share my passion for the sport with
others. I had no idea what I was getting
myself into! I knew the owner required

How to get
a better
nights sleep
hen it is 3 a.m. and you are pacing the halls of your dark
and quiet house while everyone else is sleeping soundly
in their beds, it may seem like you are the only person
in the entire world who is not getting some much-needed shut-eye.
However, many people struggle to get a good nights sleep.
Information from the National Sleep Foundation, Better Sleep
Council, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and several
other organizations indicate that between 20 and 40 percent of the
U.S. population experiences insomnia. Many of the people suffering from insomnia have family histories of the condition or are
also experiencing depression. Insomnia rates are higher for people
over the age of 60, and women are twice as likely to suffer from
insomnia than men.
Although how much sleep a person requires varies from individual to individual, the general consensus is that adults should
receive between seven and eight hours of sleep per night to feel
rested.
The Institute of Medicine estimates that hundreds of billions of
dollars are spent annually on medical costs that are directly related
to sleep disorders, while statistics from the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration indicate that 100,000 vehicle accidents occur annually as a result of drowsy drivers. These figures
underscore the importance of getting a good nights rest and
understanding how to treat insomnia in order to do so.
Insomnia may be a byproduct of a physical condition. A person
dealing with side effects of certain medications, chronic pain, restless legs syndrome, sleep apnea, and a bevy of other conditions
may find it difficult to sleep at night. Identifying the cause of the
insomnia can make it easier to treat, so those who cant sleep at
night may have an undiagnosed condition that is affecting their
ability to fall asleep.
Exercise can help promote better sleep habits. A workout
will tire you out, increase feel-good endorphins throughout the
body and raise body temperature. As the body recovers from the
82
frustration if you stay in bed and watch the clock. Getting up and
reading or listening to relaxing music can help distract the mind and
relax the body. Avoid working on the computer or watching television. Bright light can reduce the production of the sleep-inducing
hormone melatonin, resulting in further difficulty settling down.
Thanks to their reproductive hormones, women undergo more
sleep changes and challenges than men. Afterward, being woken
by children or worrying about them can lead to sleepless nights.
Many women experience trouble sleeping during menopause.
Different therapies may be needed to figure out the solution for a
restful nights sleep.
Individuals can try natural remedies to induce sleep or stay
asleep. In addition to good sleep hygiene and maintaining a regular
sleep schedule, there are a number of herbs that can relax the body.
Chamomile tea has soothing properties, and drinking chamomile
tea before bed can be an effective sleep strategy. Valerian has been
used as a medicinal herb since at least the time of Ancient Greece
and Rome, and it can reduce anxiety and promote sleep. Melatonin supplements are produced from plant sources and can induce
sleep when taken in the right amounts. Speak with a doctor about
possible remedies to find a sleep system that works for you.
Insomnia is a more common problem than many people may
think. Recognizing insomnia as a problem and seeking treatment
can help many people get on the road to a more restful nights
sleep.

Acupuncture is a medical
treatment that has evolved
from Chinese medicine using noninvasive treatment methods. I move qi (pronounced chee) to influence the patterns of illness,
pain and disease with very thin stainless steel needles. Common influences of qi disharmony are
physical and emotional stress, poor diet, accidents
and other excessive activities. When these occur, the
body becomes unbalanced; but with acupuncture, it
bounces back to a state of health! The National Institutes of Health and World Health Organization
recognize acupuncture as effective in treating addiction, emotional problems, arthritis, asthma, carpal
tunnel, digestive complaints, pain in tendons, joints
and muscles, trigeminal neuralgia, UTI, fertility,
menopause, sinusitis and sleep disturbances.
