Planning, training, operation,
and post-analysis of operations
With ever more challenging wells being drilled targeting highly productive reservoirs,
it is becoming a requirement to plan relief wells before drilling operations begin.
Should an incident occur, knowing what is required to kill a well, how the well trajectory
should be designed to intersect with a blowing well, and what rig storage and pumping
capacity is required to kill it is critical.
To get a realistic picture of the contingencies, dynamic multiphase simulations must be
performed to accurately plan the right set of actions to control wells under changing
flow conditions.
The flow process during a kill operation is complex and dynamic, and the specification of
reservoir properties is therefore imperative. The objective is to pump kill mud down the relief
well and into the blowing well, fast enough to establish enough pressure to stop the reservoir
influx. An accurate and powerful dynamic multiphase model is required to model this process.
Model blowout scenarios
The Drillbench Blowout Control tool can model a wide variety of blowout scenarios,
including surface and subsurface blowout, with a range of control options adding to
its flexibility. The Blowout Control tool also provides worst-case discharge rate, total
discharge, and the volume of kill mud required to kill the well.
The user interface is flexible and intuitive, making it easy to investigate various
options. Several simulations can be run on top of each other, enabling you to investigate
sensitivitiesparticularly important in the early planning phase, when there is high
uncertainty in the parameters.
Backed by significant research and powered by the OLGA* multiphase flow simulator,
the Drillbench Blowout Control tool provides accurate models you can trust.
