1. Draw a portrait of your favourite character based on the description in the novel, and
explain why you illustrated the character the way you did.
2. Choose a character from the novel and write 10 clues for a who am I game. The questions
should be written from most difficult to easiest.

1. Write about what you felt was: the funniest, saddest, most exciting, most surprising parts
of your novel.
2. Create a character web for one of the main characters in the book. Remember to use two
quotes from the book to support the attribute
3. Create a relationship web that includes all the of the characters in the book starting with
the main character in the middle.
4. Invite a character to your place for supper. In an email to your mom, explain who the
character is and why you would like them to come for supper. Create an invitation for the
character as well.
5. Write a letter to a friend describing the book you have read, and why it was the best.

2. Make a personal dictionary of words from your book along with their definitions ( in your
own words) and place them in alphabetical order.
3. Give titles to each chapter and explain why you chose them.
4. Explain what the main character would want for Christmas and describe why.
5. Explain where the main character would like to go on vacation and describe why.

2. Find a poem/song which you think related to your novel in some way. Write it down in an
artistic presentation and explain its connections.
3. Create and present a puppet show of part of the book, or summary of the novel
4. Make a collage of pictures cut from magazines to represent a character from the book.

5. Create a game board based on the novel.
6. Make a story box of a least 10 items that relate to the characters, big ideas, setting, plot
and present to the class.

2. Write a character sketch of one of the characters from your book; include physical and
personality traits
3. Using persuasive language, describe THREE changes that you would make to the book if
you were the author
4. Pretend you are the main character of the book and from their point of view, introduce the
other characters.
5. Write a diary from one of the characters points of view. ( 5 entries)
6. Write a poem to summarize the plot
7. Write a letter from one character in the book to another. Include a response letter as well.

1. Find four significant quotes from the novel that you found important or were messages
that described the big idea. Arrange these quotes in an artistic way and include a written
explanation of their importance. Be symbolic!
2. Dress up as one of the characters in the novel and tell about yourself and the story as if
you were that character.
3. Draw and label a map of all the story settings and what happened at each place. A large
piece of unlined white paper should be used and the map must be neat and coloured. It
must be accompanied by an explanation of what happened at each place.
4. In shoe box, create a diorama of the setting of the major crisis of the novel. Include a
written description of your project.

1. Write a letter to the publisher stating your impressions of the novel. Use letter format

action, ect be different?
3. Write a new ending to your novel. Be sure to keep the same characters, setting,etc and
use proper dialogue and story format.

1. Discuss why you think the author wrote the book. Include what you feel was the
message/ big idea of the novel.
2. Create a restaurant for your story that symbolizes/represents the setting, plot, characters
of your novel. Your restaurant must include a menu, setting, name, location that is
reflective of the novel. Be prepared to present your creation.

Read two novels by the same author or same topic and
compare and contrast them. Look at the authors style of
purpose.
Write a biography of the main character of the novel
Write a newspaper interview of the main character which
includes a headline and creative questions, photo(s) and
captions
Write the first chapter of the sequel to your novel
Pretend you are a movie producer and explain how you
would make your book into a move. Talk about the changes
you would have to make, the parts you would need to leave,
where you would shoot the movie, and special effects
concerns in the movie, and who you would cast in each major
role.
Select a character from the novel and predict what might
have happened to him or her in the decade previous to the
novel. Discuss at least FIVE major events that would have
happened in the characters life as well as why you think this
is what would have happened.
Make a comic strip with the characters and setting in the
novel. Give it a title and at least 6 frames
Cook a food that is mentioned or applies to your novel and
share with the class.
Write and act our a T.V. commercial dealing with some aspect
of your novel.
Create a photo essay that includes at least 10 important
events from your novel.
