Chile - the most attractive Latin American
country to do business in
According to the latest
Business Environment
rankings published by The
Economist Intelligence Unit
(EIU), Chile currently ranks
34 among the most
attractive countries to do
business in, based on an a total of 189
countries.
Chiles position, with respect to attractive-
ness for investment, clearly exceeds that of
all other countries in Latin America, in all of
the dimensions under evaluation. This is due
to a constant average economic growth of
5% per year in the last decade, the
exceptional levels of macro-economic
stability reached by the country, a solid
nancial system, low ination, low debt in
relation to the Internal Gross Product a
healthy budgetary surplus and almost
no political risk. Furthermore it is worth
to notice that Chile has zero import duty on
products produced in the EU.
Chile is a safe and secure place to do
business, with strong institutions and laws to
protect investors. In Chile, investors have the
benet of a stable and business-friendly
government. Chiles report card for nancial
security boasts that Standard & Poors gave
them an AA+ credit rating.
Transparency and low
corruption
Chile tops the list in Latin America for
political security, scal policy, transparency
and business atmosphere, following 20 years
of stable growth and democracy.
Chile consistently fares well in the Corruption
Perceptions Index published each year by
Transparency International, and 2013 was no
different. In the latest rankings released, the
international organization scored Chile a
71 on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being
very corrupt and 100 being very
transparent.
The CPI denes corruption as the abuse
of entrusted power for private gain and
rankings are based on 17 different surveys
and assessments from 13 institutions to
measure the populaces perception of abuse
of public power and bribery of public
ofcials.
Chile enjoys a sterling reputation for
transparency at home as well as abroad,
The ranking put Chile in the top 25 most
transparent countries in the world, and
secured its spot as one of the most
transparent country in Latin America, only
succeeded by Uruguay.
The CPI ranking was topped by Denmark
and New Zealand with a score of 91. The
nations were followed by Finland and
Sweden (89), and Norway (86) and Ireland
nishing up at 72, just ahead of Chile.
