In t2is ne4 dispensation in post 4ar (ierra 'eone Alisa Womens Farming
Project 4it2 t2e super?isory assistance of RIAP intends to assist in resetting
and re2a:ilitating t2e community people t2at originated 4it2in t2e precincts
of "om:ali >istrict.
BACKGROUND AND PROBLEMS ANALYSIS
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
1a6ari =:anti c2iefdom) t2e identified project location is one of t2e largest
c2iefdom in t2e "om:ali >istrict) 2ad e#perience some of t2e most
gruesome) :ar:aric) de:ilitating) militating) mutilating and arson acts in t2e
,, years old ci?il conflict.
*2e c2iefdom is located in an area 4it2 t4o large ri?ers i.e. *a:ai and
1a:ole 4it2 a ?egetation structure ranging from 4ood land sa?anna) flood
plains) grass lands and inland ?alley s4amps a ?egetation and soil structure
really suita:le for crop and animal production.
Its plentiful 4ater supply t2roug2out t2e year ena:les it to accommodate
large 2uman populations cro4ded in to small farming 2amlets scattered all
o?er t2e c2iefdom.
*2e large fis2 reser?e in t2e ri?ers 4as also utili!ed to supplement food
needs of t2e community and t2e surrounding communities.
*2e turning point of t2is economic gro4t2 4it2in t2ese came on t2e freBuent
re:els attac6s in t2ese areas.

Alisa Womens Farming Project 42ic2 2ad facilities at "alia) in t2e 1a6arie
=:anti c2iefdom decided to locate t2e main project acti?ities for community
people and amputees.
Panlap is -6m to t2e main out lets to =uinea) 4it2 a t2ri?ing 4ee6ly mar6et
featuring agriculture produce) li?estoc6 and imported commodities.
It 2ad :een selected for its pro#imity to t2e ot2er essential educational and
capacity :uilding ser?ice t2at 4ould :e needed for t2e communities.
PROBLEMS ANALYSIS
*2e mem:ers of t2e project are in dire need to de?elop t2em) :ut could not
afford t2e pro?ision of :asic inputs. *2e major pro:lem faced :y t2e project
and 42ic2 it 4ill try to address is t2e lac6 of t2e most appropriate agriculture
inputs to restart normal production acti?ities. *2ese inputs include farm
eBuipments) seeds) planting materials) and li?estoc6 for restoc6ing of lost
animals.

present farming system so as to attain sustaina:le food security.

concreti!ing and sensiti!ing t2e entire mem:ers2ip on t2eir roles and acti?e
participation on rural de?elopment. *2is sensiti!ation campaign culminated
in t2e registration of t2e Fi?e (%@ ?illages 4it2 a total mem:ers2ip of ,).-$.
In addition to t2e a:o?e) t2e project 2as em:ar6ed on food crops suc2 as
rice) cassa?a) s4eet potato and ?egeta:les.
*2e project 2as acBuired 3%+ acres of land for food crop and li?estoc6
production.

component (piggery and small ruminant@ due to t2e re:els o?er Four
2undred Fifty (3%+@ :us2els of seed rice mo?ed :y t2e project) 4ere looted.
*2e project only culti?ated -% acres of rice.

management) 42ic2 influence t2eir time and energy for agricultural
acti?ities.
Institutional in?ol?ement of 4omen in t2e project area de?elopment is ?ery
minimal. *2ere is t2e need to integrate t2em into mainstream de?elopment)
42ic2 reBuires an e#pansion of t2e scope for 6no4ledge and s6ills. *2ere
are many areas 42ere 4omen de?elopment programmed 4it2 ?arying
o:jecti?es can :e implemented suc2 as t2is project.
