Integrated Reservoir Modeling has achieved significant advancement in recent years in many oil companies worldwide. In fact, it has become a standard operating procedure during the Field Development process. In this environment, geoscientists and engineers, have worked in a multidisciplinary approach side-by-side. To build a good model, it is becoming important that everyone involves in the process understand, not only about his own discipline, but also, the expertise of other discipline. Traditionally, the work of reservoir modeler ends when the static model is delivered to the simulation engineer where the process of dynamic modeling starts. It is very common to find in practice that the model does not perform as expected. In fact, in certain extreme cases, the model does not run at all. This may delay the work of dynamic modeling significantly. To improve this working procedure, it will be ideal if the reservoir modeler can test the model dynamically before handing it over to the simulation engineer for detail history matching process. However, this requires that the reservoir modeler to have knowledge and skill to conduct flow simulation.
PARTICIPANTS Geologist, Geophysicist, Petrophysicist, or Reservoir Engineer who involves in Reservoir Modeling Process.
DESCRIPTION The objective of this workshop is to provide basic knowledge and skill for geomodeler about flow simulation. This is especially important when the background of the reservoir modeler is other than reservoir engineering (e.g., from the geoscience discipline). Nevertheless, anyone from any discipline may take benefit by attending this workshop when their objective is to produce robust reservoir model (statically and dynamically).
The 5 days workshop covers the topic from review of basic reservoir engineering, upscaling from static to dynamic model, data preparation for flow simulation, initialization of dynamic model and production capacity matching to ensure that the model is capable in providing the fluid flow at all wells. The class presentation is built based on the commercial software, namely PETREL and ECLIPSE.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR : Dr. Asnul Bahar is the Principal Consultant on the Integrated Reservoir Modeling and Flow Simulation Study as well as the Business Development and Operation Manager for Kelkar and Associates, Inc. He holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (1988) from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, and both MS (1994) and Ph.D. (1997) degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa.
His main research is in the area of reservoir (static and dynamic) modeling. He has conducted numerous integrated reservoir studies by incorporating geological, geophysical and engineering information to obtain better reservoir model from various oil fields worldwide in the last 20 years, followed by full field history matching and future production forecast. He is also taught industri al short courses on Geostatistics, Reservoir Modeling, Reservoir Engineering, and Gas Production Engineering, for various international participants. Additionally, he has special skill in developing the commercial software for Windows platform using NET environment. This includes the development of PETREL plug-in using OCEAN program of Schlumberger. Prior to working with Kelkar and Associates, he earned international working experiences with Schlumberger Wireline & Testing Ltd., and as the Sr. Reservoir Simulation Engineer for Schlumberger Reservoir Technology in Denver, Colorado.
