We live in a world with human beings, animals, and... trash?

It was a sunny morn

ing, here in the Windy City. I was in bed, the heat on, darkness surrounding me,
and no sound in place. In a matter of time, I slowly opened my eyes and saw the
sun shining through my blinds. Making a grouchy noise I turned to the other sid
e facing the plain wall. I quickly pulled my soft blanket to cover my face. Now
hidden from the sun I waited to fall back to sleep. As the time passed the momen
t I hate came. My dream slowly fades away as my ears fill with my alarm clock ma
king sounds like BEEP...BEEP, indicating that it is 7 o'clock which is time for me t
o get ready for school. My cell phone on my nightstand started vibrating and slo
wly began to vibrate towards the edge of the table, getting ready to hit the flo
or. As I open my eyes once again I reach out my hand to prevent the phone from d
ropping. In a short amount of time after battling myself to get up I pulled away
my long blanket, headed to wake my mom up and then returned to my room to get r
eady. When leaving my room I heard the garbage truck noise coming closer. It was
the time of the week to collect the garbage. The next stop was my alley. I walk
ed to the window and saw the blue garbage truck picking up the smelly trash, dis
posing it into the truck, shaking it right and left to get it all out, and then
placed it back down. It went can by can until it was time to go to the next hous
e. Heading outside, by the sidewalk I noticed there were cigarettes on the floor
. It covered most of the small grass around it. As I got in the car, I noticed t
hat the garbagemen finished collecting our garbage. It was my neighbors turn now
. I saw how the trash was heavier since it was taking a little bit longer to dis
pose of and it was bigger than anyone else's since the lid couldn't close. Little pl
astic bags or big black bags that was all it was when it went into the truck. We
waited a few minutes until the truck moved so I could get to school. As I appro
ached the school, I headed inside to go to my first period class. I noticed as I
was walking in the hallway that there were numerous amounts of assorted trash s
cattered everywhere near the lockers. I saw litter such as candy wrappers, paper
s, and even school flyers. As the bell rings, students were simply walking by, i
gnoring what was below them. Everybody was pushing one another to make sure they
could get to their class on time. Nobody bothered to pick up any of the trash t
hat they saw. Some students even saw the trash as a fun game; playing with the t
rash like if it was a friendly game of soccer. People would kick the trash back
and forth but would never think of picking it up and throwing it away. After fir
st period ended, it was time to go to lunch, and I decided to go to the bathroom
. When I pushed the door to the bathroom open, the first thing I saw was the tra
sh can filled to the top with napkins. The trash can was so full that the napkin
s were starting to pile up on the floor. People would take at least 6 napkins ou
t of the dispenser to dry their hands and then dispose of it in the trash. When
one person came in to wash their hands, they went to get a napkin but there were
no more left. I examined the top of the trashcan, only to discover that the nap
kins weren't used all that much. The person was annoyed for a moment but then simp
ly dried their hands on their pants and left. These were some of the things that
is a big issue but people are not noticing how much this was affecting the envi
ronment. After a long day at school I decided to walk home. I would look around
mostly notice trash on the grass, streets, and sidewalks. Two blocks away from m
y house I saw someone eating a chocolate ice cream. She was bothered by the wrap
per because it was to hard to hold when the ice cream was melting and would make
her hands sticky. Small drops of chocolate were falling on the floor. While pas
sing me I heard the wrapper being snatched away from the ice cream. I turned sli
ghtly around. Without noticing I was close by her, she then carelessly threw it
on the grass and continued walking. I asked her if she was going to pick it up.
She turned around facing me with no emotion. After a few seconds she rolled her
eyes, shrugged and picked it up. It disgusted me since people would think just b
ecause they threw it on the ground, it would eventually disappear. That is not t
he case, however. It would still be there, floating around without a care in the
world. When I arrived home, I set down my backpack and leaped over onto the sof
a. Grabbing the remote, I turned on the T.V. The news was on. There wasn't much be
ing discussed, just political issues. I decided to change it to another channel
but one of the headlines caught my eye. Capitalized GARBAGE OVERLOAD. They were sh
owing pictures of landfills, resembling mountains of trash. In those very mounta
ins of trash were things such as plastic, papers, black plastic bags, and heaps
of other items. There were even old, dinged up shopping carts in there. Many ani
mals like fish, birds, and even HUMANS are dying because of this. Most of the ga
rbage was being disposed in rivers, causing innocent animals to accidentally eat
things like plastic or bottle caps. The waters would often turn murky. Animals
are choking and dying because of our trash epidemic. The vast amount of garbage
was the source of disease for some as well. Many trees were being cut down to cr
eate more landfills since we are already using up our limited amount of space. I
thought to myself, how are we going to manage garbage if we continue to waste o
ur resources and don't reduce, reuse, or recycle? Landfills would not be as full i
f we learned how to manage our disposal habits more wisely. What will happen if
we keep piling it up? If people ignore this everyday, in a couple of years, we w
ill be living in our own filth. Our Earth.
