What I will apply from the National Drill Competition
There are many things about leadership that I learn at the Nationals Competition in
Daytona Beach in Florida. There is some bad example of leadership by some cadets that quit the
LEHS Drill team. Those cadets that quit did not have unselfishness, were disrespectful, and
didnt show a good example of leadership. Thanks to the knowledge of Cadet Col Harris-Walker,
Cadet 1
st
Sgt Reyes, and Cadet Cpl Rosa we now know that in order to win next year we need to
have a lot of things. For example we need to have more motivation, enthusiasm; we need more
loyalty and being more committed to the drill team.
However, there are some Cadets that already show most of these things for example Alex
Lufkin, Audom Kimerac, Max Dimick, and Jamie Rosas. During nationals I saw a lot of thing
like moms that actually care like Nancy Lufkin or her drill name Mama Lufkin. I also saw that
our way to act in and out of the drill team has change like the attitude given to the leaders and
other members, and the respect to each Cadet that earns it. Also in Daytona Beach when we did
PT we work as a team and we bond more with the others Cadets from the team. Now with all this
I think Im prepare to stop being a follower and become the leader everyone in the team even
though Im not an actual leader.
As a leader Im willing to take the responsibility and make good judgment from the
Cadet that quit the team. And also I will need the courage and wisdom from my team mates to
become a better leader. During this year I have learned more about what it takes to be a good
leader and the different ways that I can approach a situation to fix the problem in a organize way.
Before this year started I didnt have a lot of patience for nothing because Im the type of guy
that likes to get things done as fast as I can because I cant wait. Now thanks to my leaders and
fellows cadets of the team I have found that patience is good because that way you can do things
the right way the first time instead of having do to it again because you didnt have any patience.
In this years National Drill Team Competitions I utilize everything that I have learn
during the school year in order to better myself and help my fellow cadets. During the year we
have built character and endurance to become better people in and out of the school to help form
a better community and help others become more in the future. At this time I can honestly say
that my peers and I know the true meaning of dependability. This is because if it wasnt for all of
us showing that we are willing to do whatever it takes from us to practice, help each other and be
better we wouldnt have the chance to go to Nationals. This year have shown us a lot of things
and has help us become better leaders and followers and I will take all of this with me and I just
hope that one day I can be the leader that I know I can be.
