Dear Madam,

Feedback for the Bachelor of Sciences Special Degree in Computer Sciences 2010/2011

I am writing this feedback for my results, Computer Sciences Special Degree program and
my whole university life.
First of all, I am glad that Ive studied in South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. It was a
turning point of my life. I was entered to the University for 2007/2008 Batch under the
registration number of SEU/IS/07/PHY/052.

It was a new chapter of my life; I was the member of 1
st
Sinhalese student batch of South
Eastern University. We were studied in the university while the war period of the North.
While my family was worrying about that we might get troubles from the war situation,
University provide us everything, university could to keep us safe and keep us in University.
University provided us transport, additional police and army security until the war is
completely banished from our Country.

When I look back my university life, I am happy that I did not only studies, lot of
extracurricular activities during my university life. I was the Editor of Sinhala Literary
Association for the 2008/2011 period; I was able to publish a Magazine with Sinhala Literary
Association, called Sanda Diya Sakmana which issued with the Sanda Diya Sakmana Kala
Ulela. (This Magazine is available in the university library). And I was the Founder of the
Athwela Community Helping Program which we sacrificed our time to Conduct Sciences,
Mathematics and Commerce, Seminars to Trincomalee District Rural Schools. Addition to
those I was the Junior Treasure of The Faculty Student Union 2011/2012 , Editor of the
Computer Sciences Socity.
I believe that universities responsibility is not producing graduates with classes, but
providing good graduates who can face the community from outside of the university, a
graduate who can work in practical situations, a graduate who can contributes to national
development, economy.

If you look at my case as example, I do not have a class for the my degree, my GPA my less
than my other batch-mates, but at the moment I have developed I have developed an
Internet Booking Engine which allow to book the hotels online. I have provide the language
translation solution to World biggest game translation companys international web site
which you can find on www.poletowininternational.com
I have provided the Content Management Solution for the USA biggest BIG Data Company
called Glassbeam (www.glassbeam.com). At the moment also I am in middle of developing
online event planning system based on WordPress. These are few examples from what I
have done from what I learned from the University.
University, Special degree shown me a path for my future, I am going on it very successfully
Now, So I have no regret or any minor sadness in my mind that I have no class for my
degree and I barely passed my degree.
I am happy that my degree opens a door to go my future.

We were studied in lot of difficulties, our program was start 5 months late, due to some
approval and lack of students, when the special degree started we had no any senior
lectures except for the Mathematic for computing, but I had not any issue or worry about
that, I needed the knowledge,
After 1
st
semester all the members realized that getting lectures from the associate lectures
or demonstrators was not very good effective for the knowledge, personally I had the
difficulties of understanding, Miss Jhans lectures, soon after the semester end we did
inform about to the special degree coordinator, but we couldnt solve that problem .

In the 1
st
semester we had two credit subject called Operation System and System
Programming end of the subject Ive got B+ results, which was looking great, but I couldnt
learn anything about how we program a new Operating system. The reason I studied
Operating Systems and System programming is not to pass the exam. I wanted to know
how I write the code to make Operating System.

So my suggestion is these subjects must go with practical sessions, and then only it
becomes more valuable to the degree. There wasnt any practical except the High
Performance Computing, Scientific Computing and Computer Vision. If there was more
practical, it might more effective.

I am not complain or blame to anyone about these things, all the lectures, demonstrators,
Dean, Department Heads, even supportive staffs like lab assistants and labors did
everything they could, they sacrificed lot of holidays, weekends to make us graduates. For
example Dr Naleer Conduct lectures when he was his study leave. Hanees sir Conduct us
lectures while he was under medical treatments.

From the Point of view, University did the best university could, even more sometimes. As
an independent student I believe that, completing a degree is fully depend on the student.
Theres no pointing blaming the lectures or staff, that he or she couldnt get the marks, just
miss the class or saying anything.

According to my religious believers and what I learn from my parents teachers also like
parents to me, I cant pay what I owe them in this life. I do respect them every way I can.
And I am glad that had very good teachers.

As I said earlier, I believe in practical situations, I am learning most of them by doing them.
So I believe that whats brought me this so far for last 1 and half year. When we were
finding the places for industrial training, Ive selected for the three different companies,
and then I choose a company from that three. I selected because, I had particle knowledge
for what Ive learn.

For the last on year I worked for the USA Company as Senior WordPress Developer / UI
Engineer, and Team Lead. Last month I moved in to Belgium Company as Senior UI
Developer, hopefully in 2014 August, Ill be able to work in Belgium office in my current
employee.

Ive got all these opportunities not because of my class of the degree, but the practical
knowledge and experience I had.

I need to thank all the staffs, Lectures, and Department heads, subject coordinators, and
especially for you, Madam Dean, you were like mother to student, thinking always about
students side and Dr. Balasooriya who helped me in different situations, and finally Vice
Chancellor of the University. No matter I am passed out or not, I am student of you
forever.
Thank you.
