A description of the Softrnica host interface protocol can be found in another document available at Softrnica web page (search RIDEL5000-M, and see the related document PROTOCOL.PDF). Note: Due to limitations in memory size, Firmware version 3.1 can only programmed to RIDEL5001 units. Pag:3/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 2 NEW FEATURES Some of the new features included in the RIDEL5000 3.1.Firmware are: Softrnica protocol implementation. Simpler communication protocol. The RIDEL will filter all overhead data, and only send data corresponding to real tags detected. Low level implementation details are handled by the reader, not the host software. For instance, automatic selection of the tags, automatic determination of number of timeslots in ICODE, ... Auto-read mode with anti-colision. The unit will send tag data without a command from the host. ISO15693 reading, writing, and (only for SLI) EAS support. New programming utility launched separately or from the new demo software New develpment tools supplied. New dll, sample source code available, ... New graphical tools for TX and RX adjustment and verification Configuration files. It is possible to save a particular parameter configuration, and load it later, so no individual parameter configuration is required. All the previous features are kept in this firmware version, so just configuring the unit for Philips protocol, will make it compatible with the older programs. Pag:4/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 3 RIDEL5001 CONFIGURATION 3.1.Firmware update To configure and update the firmware of the RIDEL5001, you will need to use the original demo software (RIDEL.EXE) Press the UPDATE FIRMWARE button, and then LOAD FILE and START PROGRAMMING, as required in the screen below. Make sure you load the .H86 file supplied for this demo (V3.1 or higher). This version is automatically installed with the supplied demo software (file FRIDELV31.H86) Pag:5/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 It is also possible to update the firmware from the new demo software supplied (Utils->Firmware Update option in the main menu). The screen below appears. 3.2.Configuration To configure the reader for the Softrnica protocol, youll have to change the COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL parameter in the EEPROM. With the RIDEL.EXE standard demo software, or with the Setup Wizard, change the Communication Protocol value to 2. Then, reset the RIDEL5000 unit, close the RIDEL.EXE software, and start the new software supplied. Note: There is always a safe mode to go back to Philips protocol in case there is a mistake in the communication parameter setting. To do that just press the ENTER MASTER MODE in the RIDEL.EXE application (configuration screen). This will set the unit to Philips protocol, 115200 bauds. After you reset the unit (OFF-ON cycle), it will start with the new protocol, so youll have to use the new supplied demo software. Pag:6/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 4 HIGH LEVEL SOFTWARE 4.1.Installation You just have to run the SETUP.EXE file provided. It will install: The new protocol demo software The new protocol .dll file The .H86 firmware update for the RIDEL5001 The protocol.pdf protocol description document The new crg.car file (loader file used to program the reader) Important: This crg.car file should be copied to the directory where the standard RIDEL.EXE software is running. This is needed to be able to program larger .h86 files into the RIDEL5001. 4.2.Running the program Once everything is installed, and the firmware updated, and the unit connected to the serial communication port, just double click on the icon in the desktop to run the program. The following screen will appear: Pag:7/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 Pressing the Connect! option on the window menu, the user will be prompted with the screen: Where it will be neccessary to supply a serial port for the connection, and a baud rate. Alternatively, with the use of a serial to ethernet converter, it will be possible to supply an IP address and port number for the connection. 4.3.Further configuration Before trying to read a tag, some new parameters will have to be configured. Press the SET->PERMANENT option in the main menu, and youll have a window with the same parameters as in the old demo program, but with some new options: Youll have to configure the parameters: RIDEL model Should be set to 1 for RIDEL5001 Min number of tags Minimum number of tags you expect in the field at a time. It is used for the automatic timeslot calculation, and it is usually set to 0. Max number of tags Maximum number of tags you expect in the field at a time. It is used for the automatic timeslot calculation. Time for tag repetition. It is used in read-to-memory mode. A tag that is read several times during this period will not be considered a new tag, so it will only be written once into memory. Pag:8/9 RIDEL5001 Update to version 3.1 Tag protocols. Used for multi-protocol applications. It will describe the protocols to be considered: ICODE 1 ISO15693 2 ISO15693 Offset Internal parameter for ISO reading. Should be set to 9. ISO15693 Length Internal parameter for ISO reading. Should be set to 13. After this is configured, press the OK button, and reset the RIDEL5000. The Load Config File and Save Config File buttons it is possible to save to disk a particular configuration for later use, and retrieve this configuration from the disk, in order to configure the unit with a pre-defined set of parameters. There are a couple of sample configuration files installed with the demo software. 4.4.Commands implemented The firmware version 3.1 implements the following set of commads: ICODE All the read commands WRITE ALL and WRITE TRIGGER commands All the SET commands except SET ACCESS CODE, SET MASTER and SET PROTOCOL All the GET commands ISO15693 All the READ commands WRITE ALL, WRITE TRIGGER, WRITE EAS commands Same SET and GET commands as ICODE Pag:9/9
