How Professional Power Projects Work On Coal Gasification Technology
Sterling energy is a company completely dedicated to thermal and renewable resources of
energy. They have long years of experience in this field and established many professional power projects in various countries. They also provide power plant management services for long working of projects after development. They are indulged in number of technologies like solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric energy, biomass energy, steam turbines, reciprocating turbines, steam turbines, combustion turbines, coal gasification technology and many more. As the name signify, coal gasification convert coal in gas similar to natural gas. Gasification may occur in separate processing unit or coal mine. These gases can be burned or stored for the production of chemicals, fuel and electricity. Gasification process involves use of steam and oxygen in power plant development.
Gasifier The process of coal gasification actually begins with the gasifier. The coal feedstock is fed in the gasifier and then coal is exposed at intense heat, steam and oxygen. Oxygen levels are tightly controlled in gasifier but levels can also reach up to 99 percent. These high levels of oxygen enable partial oxidation and initiate the process in which coal is nut burnt rater broken in parts called as syngas. This gas is composed of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Other than it can produce various gases varying according to coal composition. Some portions of coal are transformed successfully but a slag material may resemble sulfur byproducts, ammonia and glass. Some ash is also formed in the gasifier which will be removed after the process comes to an end.
IGCC Coal gasification professional power projects use integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) systems. In these systems sulfur byproducts and ammonia are again put to use as a fuel in combustion turbines. This turbine can be used as a part of electric generator. The waste heat is used to heat water for producing steam. This two turbine system is referred as combined cycle which is used commercially and achieves high efficiency. Usually efficiency of these projects is around 40 percent. The best advantage is that it requires less fuel to produce best results as compared conventional coal plants.
Syngas This produced syngas from gasifier undergoes significant processing. Some pollutants like sulfur is stripped out from the gas. In some plants even carbon monoxide is also removed. Rest all byproducts can be used as fuel or as commercial chemicals. Hydrogen is converted for transportation fuels, methanol is used for commercial chemical production and hydrogen is used as feedstock of fertilizer production.
