Mediation with minor progress on June 17,18. Dates scheduled for further mediation: June 23-26, and July 2-4, 8-10.
However, no further dates are scheduled beyond July 10.
As a result, the UNA Negotiating Committee has called a Reporting Meeting for July 15 in Calgary at which the committee
will report on the progress in bargaining and mediation to more than 500 delegates from across the province
representing all affected UNA locals.
As per the UNA constitution [Article 10.02 (b)]:
At Negotiations Reporting Meetings every
Chartered Local involved in negotiations for which the meeting has been called shall be entitled to be
represented by one (1) voting delegate/alternate for every seventy-five (75) members or part thereof. The
voting delegate(s)/alternate(s) must be a member in good standing of the UNA and shall be elected at a
meeting of the Chartered Local.
Generally at a Reporting Meeting the committee reports either that it has reached a tentative agreement, in which case
delegates review the agreement and determine if the assembly recommends ratification, or that negotiations are at an
impasse.
In the event of an impasse, delegates discuss an appropriate response that can bring negotiations to a successful
conclusion with a fair collective agreement for the unions members.
Details about the Reporting Meeting will be provided as soon as arrangements are confirmed. Delegate entitlement will be
provided as soon as possible, and UNA Locals should request leaves of absence for their delegates as soon as possible.
UNA and the employer bargaining committee agreed to mediation in April. The parties jointly agreed to David Jones as
mediator.

Over the next few weeks, the Alberta Government will be holding public hearings on their plan
to gut the retirement security of hundreds of thousands of workers and retirees in the public
and private sectors.
Their plan is still the same: Allowing benefits to fall behind inflation, putting early retirement
out of reach and hindering the ability of plans to stay financially viable.
They didnt want to hold these hearings because they didnt want to hear you.
Because of the public outcry, and because of your involvement, theyve been forced to hear you
now we need to make them listen.
There are seven public hearings to which youre invited. If you just wish to attend, you can show
up at the door. If you wish to make a comment, you will need to register in advance at:
http://www.assembly.ab.ca/committees/abeconomicfuture/contacts.html
All meetings start at 6 p.m. For the Calgary meeting the deadline is June 20.
