STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

India has been swept by an upheaval of change in the past two decades. The most significant factor
is that the young Indian woman is taking a huge role in the change like never before. I am fortunate
to come from a family which does not differentiate between a son and a daughter. My parents have
given me absolute freedom to select my career and they have supported me in all my endeavors to
date. I am a final year student, pursuing the 4th year B. Tech in Computer Science Engineering
from GITAM University.

My long term goal is to become a professor in a premier institute in India contributing to the
academics and also the field of Research and Development. There is a great need and huge
potential for qualified professors in Indian Engineering Colleges as most of the Computer Science
graduates are joining the service sector. I have decided to become a professor because of my
passion and because of the plethora of opportunities in the field of academics.

I have always been very punctual and hardworking. I have a consistent academic record and I have
always been among the top five students of the class through my academic career so far. I will
graduate in 2012. At present I am maintaining an aggregate CGPA of 8.79. My area of interest lies
in the field of Data Mining, Networks and Information Security.

During my under-graduation, in addition to the theoretical components, the course of study
encompassing significant practical elements equipped me with ample knowledge and skills and in
fact gave me a solid academic foundation. In college, more emphasis was placed on group work,
Projects, seminars and self-direction. This helped me to develop skills in teamwork and
presentations.
As part of my final year curriculum, I have been assigned to work on project Message Passing
interface in Grid Environment, which is the implementation of an algorithm to improve
multicast performance over grid environment by exploiting the nature of two-level grid topology
and adopting the technique of intelligent message scheduling.
As a mini project I worked on Automation of Library Management System. It provides an online
mechanism for user registration, book issues, checking availability, book renewals etc. Keeping in
mind the growing importance of computers in every field, I have acquired proficiency in C, C++,
Java and other scripting languages like PHP, SQL and AJAX etc.
I did an Internship in Symbiosis Technologies, Visakhapatnam for a period of 6 weeks. During my
intern I was trained in Ethical Hacking and Software Engineering concepts. I gained valuable
industrial experience which helped me to understand how the concepts taught in the class room
are applied in the Industry.

I had coordinated and organized many departmental fests like Alacrity09 and TICES10. I am an
active member of GITAM NSS Chapter and volunteered many events like Women empowerment,
Anti-Ragging, Plantation Programs and Medical Camp.





I have participated in two activities in Wissenarie11 at IIT Bhubaneswar. In the events Vision
India and Mathematics Olympiad, I secured 1st Prize and won a cash prize of good amount. I
was an enthusiastic participant in Robokriti workshop held at GITAM University. I attended a
seminar on cloud computing at IIT Bhubaneswar. I have participated in Microsoft Dreamspark
Yatra conducted at GITAM University by Microsoft student Chapter I have learned Indian
Classical Music and have given performances in local functions. I am interested in all forms of
music and I love singing.

I have selected the University of Florida for several reasons. Firstly, the curriculum and the
flexibility therein which allows students to select courses from a plethora of options. Secondly the
world class faculty and the excellent professor student ratio which gives ample opportunities to
interact with the experienced faculty professors. The state-of-art-facilities and the diverse peer
group with students attending from several countries add a new dimension to experiential learning.
I am sure, that the two year MS Program from University of Florida shall go a long way in helping
me realize my goal.
