1. Take account of yourselves before you are brought to account.

in doing something will be known for it.

5. 'old on to your salah! because if you lose that! you will lose everything else.
6. # enjoin uon you the dhikr (remembrance) of *llah! for it is a healing! and # warn
you against the dhikr of (seaking of) eole! for it is a disease.
7. + *llah! # am indeed harsh! so make me gentle, # am weak! so make me strong,
and # am miserly! so make me generous.
8. The best way to give u the world and dedicate yourself to *llah is to hide the
fact that you are doing this.
9. -veryday it is said. so and so has died. *nd there must come a day when it will
be said. /Umar has died.
10. Umar ibn al-Khattab distributed goods from the treasury on the eole! so one of
them said. 0&a1ak*llah khair + leader of the faithful23 4o Umar said. 0What5s
wrong with these eole6 We give them what5s rightfully due to them and they
think it is a favor from me.3
11. %o not grieve over what has assed unless it makes you work harder for what is
about to come.
12. *llah never obliterates evil with evil! but 'e erases evil with goodness." 7Umar

13. We were the most humiliated eole on earth and 8od gave us honor through
#slam. #f we ever seek honour through anything else! 8od will humiliate us again.
14. 4tay in the comany of those who always make reentance for their sins! for they
have the softest hearts.
15. 4ometimes the eole with the worst ast create the best future.
16. + eole2 4tay away from getting obese! for it makes one la1y in rayers!
corruts the body! and brings disease.
17. 9et not your love become attachment! nor your hate become destruction.
18. %on5t forget your own self while reaching to others.

honor in something other than #slaam! *llaah would disgrace you.
23. 9et not your love become attachment! nor your hate become destruction.
24. :ever think ill of the word that comes out of your believing brother5s mouth! as
long as you can find a good e;cuse for it.
25. * man leaves from his house having sins similar in si1e to the Mount of
Tuhaama. <ut when he hears some knowledge! he becomes fearful and reents.
'e returns to his home afterwards with no sins. Thus you should never abandon
attending the gatherings of the scholars.
26. Know that every habit comes by getting used to it. 8et used to being atient and
doing good. <e atient against whatever befalls you. #t will make you fear *llaah.
27. When did you start turning eole into slaves when their mothers gave birth to
them as free human beings6
28. + *llah! if =ou have written me down as being someone who is miserable! then
erase that for me, and instead write me down as being hay. >or indeed! =ou
erase whatever =ou wish! and =ou write down and uhold ?whatever =ou wish@
29. #f # desire comfort in this world! # would harm my lasting comfort in the hereafter!
and if # desired the hereafter! # must renounce comfort in this world! and hence! #
decided to give u the ehemeral. Therefore! if you find the same! then it is
surely better for you to endure a little discomfort in this life.
30. *llah never obliterates evil with evil! but 'e erases evil with goodness.
31. 'old fast to the truth and it will reveal to you the status of the eole of the truth.
32. The best days we ever lived were by virtue of atience! and if atience were to
take the shae of a man! he would be a noble and generous man.
33. 8o easy on yourself because the destinies of all matters are in *llah5s 'and.
Those that 'e has thwarted can never come to you just as those that 'e has
commanded can never be thwarted.
34. The women are not a garment you wear and undress however you like. They are
honored and have their rights.
35. 4urely # do have the means to wear the finest of clothing! to eat the best of food!
and to live a most comfortable life. # swear to *llaah! that if this was the idea of
comfort! then # do have the means to do so. # am not ignorant of how to dress a
camel5s hum to make it more comfortable! or how to build myself a rich
recetion hall! acAuire imressive commodities! or make cometitive choices in
this world! but # have heard *llaah rerimanding some eole for doing so! B=ou
e;hausted your leasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them.5
36. Whosoever shows you your faults! he is your friend. Those that ay you li
service in raise are your e;ecutioners. ~Umar ibn al-Khattab
37. We used to say that this Ummah will be doomed by knowledgeable hyocrites.
38. 4tick to the truth even if the truth kills you.
39. # wish you knew what # have in my heart for you! but there is no way for you to
know e;cet by my actions.
40. Clace the affairs of your brother when they reach you uon the best of
interretations until there comes to you clarity which overcomes that. %o not think
ill of a statement which comes from another Muslim if you can find a good
interretation for it.
41. Umar #bn *l-Khattaab said to Mu5aawiyah bin *bi 4ufyan. 0#f # slet during the
day # would have neglected the eole! and if # slet during the night # would
have neglected myself. 'ow can # slee when # have these two concerns! +
Mu5aawiyah6
42. 8o easy on yourself! for the outcome of all affairs is determined by 8od$s decree.
#f something is meant to go elsewhere! it will never come your way! but if it is
yours by destiny! from you it cannot flee.
43. The haiest of eole is the one under whose care eole are hay because
of him! and the most miserable of eole is the one under whose care eole are
miserable because of him.
44. There is no good in you if you do not say it! and there is no good in us if we do
not listen to it. (Umar ibn al-Khattab on advice and criticism directed at rulers and
leaders)
45. #f an announcer from the heavens were to announce! saying. 0+ eole2 *ll of
you will enter aradise e;cet one man3, # fear that he (i.e. that man) would be
me.
46. "*cAuire knowledge! and learn tranAuility and dignity."
47. Catience is the healthiest ingredient of our life.
48. + 9ord! show us truth as true! and enable us to follow it.
49. *sk *llah for hel against your evil whims and desires just as you ask 'im for
hel against your enemies.
50. >ear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to
you than your enemy.
51. 8et used to a rough life! for lu;ury does not last forever. ~Umar ibn al-Khattab
(may *llah be leased with him)
52. %o not be fooled by one who recites the Duran. 'is recitation is but seech! but
look to those who act according to it.
53. The most imortant of your affairs in my view is rayer, whoever rays regularly
has rotected his faith! but whoever neglects it! is bound to more negligent in
other issues of faith.
54. 4it with those who constantly reent! for they have the softest hearts.
55. + *llah make all my deeds righteous and make them sincerely for =our sake! and
let not anyone else have a share in them (i.e in the intention).
56. 9ower your ga1e from the world and turn your heart away from itE
57. To be alone means that you avoid bad comany. <ut to have a true friend is
better than being alone.
58. # swear by *llah2 # have never been tested by hardshi e;cet that *llah
bestowed uon me due to it four blessings7the first is that # was not tested
through a sin, the second! that the hardshi was not greater than it was, the third!
# wasn$t derived of being contented with it, the fourth! # hoe that # will be
rewarded for it.
59. *llah has ket your secret! why did you not kee your secret ?i.e. e;osing your
sins@6
60. "To seak less is wisdom! to eat less is healthy! and to mingle less with te eole
is safe and serene."
61. Whoever acts on whims and desires and sin loses out and harms no one but
himself. Whoever follows the sunnah and adheres to laws and follows the right
ath! seeking that which is with *llaah for those who obey 'im! is doing the right
thing and is a winner.
62. The less of the world! the freer your live.
63. There is no relationshi between *llaah and anyone e;cet through obedience to
'im.
64. # do not mind whether what haens is to my liking or dislike! for # know not
whether what # like or dislike is a good thing or bad.
65. When one5s intention is sincere! *llaah (jalla wa ala) will suffice his needs! rotect
him! and guide him in his dealings with the eole. 'owever! if one adorns
himself to lease the eole in this world! only *llaah knows what ends awaits
him in the hereafter.
66. "May *llah show mercy on the man who shows me my faults"
67. 4ometimes the eole with the worst ast create the best future.
68. # thought of all the dresses but # did not find a better dress than iety.
69. May 8od bless the man who says less and does more.
70. "Take account of yourselves before you are brought to account."
71. "# am not worried about whether my du$a will be resonded to! but rather # am
worried about whether # will be able to make du$a or not. 4o if i have been guided
(by *llah) to make du$a! then (# know) that the resonse will come with it."
72. :o amount of guilt can change the ast and no amount of worrying can change
the fture .
