Higher yield in Banana can be taken by adopting drip
irrigation and fertigation technology. Maximum yield in cv.
Grand Naine can be taken by irrigation at 0.8 Epan with 80%
recommended dose of fertilizer (300:20:250 g NPK/plant)
though fertigation at plant spacing of 2x2 m.
4. Likely cost (Cost of

Drip irrigation gives a long way to solve to some extent the
problem of water shortage, increase the
productivity/production and bring more income to the farming
community. Application of irrigation at volume 1.0 PE with
100% RD through fertigation noticed maximum return.
Page-87
5. Impact of technology on
farming community and its
benefits over conventional
and saving time & cost of
operation, inputs, timelines
etc.
Application of irrigation at volume 1.0 PE with 100% RD
through fertigation noticed maximum plant height and stem
girth which found significant difference from rest of the
treatment. Minimum plant height and girth were observed
under flood irrigation with 100% RD of fertilizer. Maximum
bunch length was recorded under the treatment 0.8 volume of
water with 80% RD of fertilizer while minimum 62.22 cm was
noticed under flood+ 60%RD of fertilizer. Maximum No. of
hands, bunch weight ,total soluble solids and yield were
recorded under the treatment 0.8 volume of water with 80 %
RD of fertilizer which showed non-significant difference with
the treatment 0.8 volume of water +100 RD of fertilizer.
6. Social/ environmental/
other benefits
Fertigation is a new technology growing popularity in India.
Fertigation includes fertilizer application in combination with
irrigation water through drip system of irrigation. It is
established fact that drip irrigation recognized as most
effective and convenient means of maintaining optimum
fertility level as water is supplied to the plants based on
evapo-transpiration around active root zone. This fulfills the
specific requirement of water as well as nutrients for each
crop resulting increase yield of crop with improved quality.
Fertigation has been proved successful in a wide range of
horticultural crops more particularly in fruit crops.

All the characters were significantly influenced by
levels of fertigation and type of mulching used.
Application of 80% RD through fertigation gave
maximum fruit yield followed by 100% RD through
fertigation with maximum plant height and number of
leaves. It also gave early flowering and fruit harvest
with quality fruits. Black polyethylene mulch was
significantly superior over paddy straw mulch and
without mulch. It gave maximum plant height, number
of leaves, leaf area and yield (258.70 q/ha) with earlier
flowering and fruiting. Among various interactions,

6. Social/ environmental/ other
benefits
Mulching maintains the soil moisture at optimum
level, eliminating water stress to the plant of capsicum
resulting in greater vigor. Also the use of black plastic
mulch checks the growth of weeds. But in case of
surface irrigation without mulch excess moisture in the
soil and competition of nutrient with weeds, resulting
heavy weed infestation observed between the crop
rows.

Drip irrigation system is a very efficient method of
supplying water to plant precisely very close to the root
zone. In drip method of irrigation water is carryout
through on extensive pipe network to drip water slowly
through the emitters at a low pressure directly near the
root zone considering evaporative demand of the crop.
Drip irrigation systems give a long way to solve to some
extent the problem of water shortage, increase the
productivity/production and bring more income to the
farming community. In surface method of irrigation, huge
quantity of water losses through leaching and surface
runoff. Farmers generally irrigate banana crop through
surface method of irrigation, which needs an abundant
water to irrigate the crop mulching significantly enhanced
vegetative growth and increased bunch yield. Mulches
also contribute to the crop production by way of
influencing soil productivity, control of weed, conserve

Plastic trench technique was found better in rainfed
situation. Vegetables without plastic trench had
severe mortality. Among vegetables Bottle gourd
was found superior in yield followed by bitter
gourd and capsicum.
4. Likely cost (Cost of intervention
and out put per unit area)
Looking to the findings of above trial it can be
recommended that in rainfed situation Maize-
bottle gourd relay cropping system was
remunerative under plastic trench technique
followed by rice- bottle gourd relay cropping.
5. Impact of technology on farming
community and its benefits over
conventional and saving time & cost
of operation, inputs, timelines etc.
Chhattisgarh has about 6 lakh hectare area under
upland rainfed situations where farmers grow only
early maturing rice varieties or early maize for cob
purpose or minor millets due to availability of
moisture for limited period. Therefore, these lands
are left fallow after kharif cropping. Farmers
having such lands do not adopt moisture
conservation practices and irrigation facilities.
However, the rainfall is well distributed from 2
nd
week of June to mid September with more than
1200 mm in quantum. Generally the upland
farmers are resource poor and have small &
marginal land holdings. Thus, there is need to
develop options for improving productivity and
farmers income by utilizing plasticulture
techniques. The suitable technique of moisture
conservation for double cropping in upland area
under upland situation will not only uplift farmers
livelihood but also provide employment for long
time by growing vegetables as cash crop.
6. Social/ environmental/ other
benefits
Those farmers which are cultivating in low rain fall
areas can use the conservered moisture for the
vegetable crop cultivation after the rice.

Item Details
1 Name of technology/ agro-
technique
LTFE in this centre has to assess the needs of soil for
sustainable growth in agricultural production without
any degradation in soil quality for attaining ever
increasing growth in production on sustainable basis.
2 Specifications and salient
technical features (adoption
requirements, suitability/ agro-
climatic conditions, how it is an
improvement over the existing,
eco-friendliness)
To study the effect of continuous application of
plant nutrients through inorganic, singly and in
combination with organics on yield performance of
crops in rice-wheat cropping systems,
To study the effect of the secondary and
micronutrients (as per need) on crop yields and also
on the assessment of the need for these elements
under an rice-wheat cropping programme
To work out the amount of nutrients removal by
the crops
To monitor the changes in soil properties as a
result of continuous manuring and cropping
Page-108
Monitoring the changes in physical, chemical and
microbiological characteristics of the soil as a result
of continuous applied fertilizer nutrients under rice
wheat cropping system
3 Performance results (efficiency
& sustainability)
After completing one successful decade of LTFE
following results can be drawn:
Crop production data indicates that application of 100%
NPK +FYM (5t/ha Kharif only) gives higher yield on
sustainable basis.
Incorporation of organic sources with inorganic
fertilizers are important for sustaining long term soil
health as observed in 100% NPK+FYM and
50%NPK+green manure application .
Application of NPK+FYM increase soil organic carbon
status which is good indicator of long term soil health.
Soils of this region (Vertisols) are rich in native K and
recommendation can be drawn in favors of farmers that
if farmers wants to save the input incurred on fertilizers
they can skip application of potassium on soil testing
basis.
Continuous application of recommended dose of
phosphatic fertilizers builds up of soil phosphorus.
Under such situations farmers may reduce P fertilizer
doses as per soil test which save input and cost of
cultivation without affecting productivity.
No response to micronutrient Zn on Rice and Wheat
yield was recorded as critical level is high.
4 Likely Cost (cost of intervention
and output per unit area)
The technology requires only soil testing as per crop
requirement the fertilizer does can be fixed and based on
the test results, fertilizer doses are fixed. If soil nutrients
level is low then fertilizer doses are fixed for moderate
level of crop yields otherwise fertilizer doses can be
fixed for crops potential yield. Many times soil P build
up can save the unnecessary fertilizer application.
5 Impact of technology
on farming community
and its benefits over
conventional and saving
time & cost of
operation, inputs,
timeliness etc.
The technology has been provided to farmers of the
state and they are using the correct information i.e.
started using balance dose of fertilizer in their
cropping system.. Due to this technology, the balance
fertilizer consumption and crop production are
increasing continuously and NPK ratio in the state is
also improved in a balanced manner.
6 Social/environmental/ other
benefits
Ever increasing need and demand of agricultural
production can only be fulfilled only when base (SOIL)
is in good health. With changing climate conditions and
importance of micro organisms in increasing agriculture
production on sustainable basis LTFE at Raipur is
planning to initiate work on microbially mediated
decomposition process of organic matter with their role
in reducing GHG emission from soil and sequestering
more carbon into soil. This will not only reduce the
dependency on costly input like fertilizer and will
Page-109
reduce the cultivation cost but also maintain soil in a
state to support future demands of higher production to
feed increasing human population. Also continuous
monitoring of GHG emission from agricultural field will
provide the input to alter the existing practice of
agriculture cultivation to mitigate these emissions
without yield reduction
7 Status of commercialization/ IP
rights etc.
Customized fertilizer can be sold by fertilizer company
as per our recommendation.

Item Details
1 Name of technology/ agro-technique Soil test based balanced fertilization with IPNS
approach for all major crops (cereals, pulses,
oilseeds, vegetables, cash crops etc) of the
Chhattisgarh state covering all three agro-
climatic zones.
2 Specifications and salient technical
features (adoption requirements,
suitability/ agro-climatic conditions, how
it is an improvement over the existing,
eco-friendliness)
The soil test based balanced nutrition for all
major crops generated is based on the scientific
approach taking nutrients requirement,
efficiencies of soil, fertilizer and organic source
nutrients and crop yields. The technology has
generated the basic information on these
parameters for all the major crops and evolved in
a equation forms for fertilizer nutrients to be
applied for each crop in a particular soil type.
The information is generated for a crop under
various soil situations, rainfed and irrigated crops
also.
3 Performance results (efficiency &
sustainability)
The performance of the technology has been
tested on farmers field through FLDs and
testing is continuing for different crops in
different situations. The results of FLDs
conducted on farmers clearly show that soil test
and yield target based balanced fertilizer
Page-110
application gives higher yield response, net
profit and net return than those of blanket or
farmers fertilizer dose. IPNS dose although
gives relatively less profit than chemical source
but keeps care for soil health in a sustained way.
4 Likely Cost (cost of intervention and
output per unit area)
The technology requires only soil testing of the
crop fields and based on the test results,
fertilizer doses are fixed. If soil nutrients level is
low then fertilizer doses are fixed for moderate
level of crop yields otherwise fertilizer doses
can be fixed for crops potential yield. Many
times soil P build up can save the unnecessary
fertilizer application.
5 Impact of technology on
farming community and its
benefits over conventional and
saving time & cost of operation,
inputs, timeliness etc.
Soil testing facilities require at district/KVK
level and soil samples of the farmers fields can
be tested and provide balance fertilizer doses.
The technology has been provided to all limited
soil testing laboratory in the state and they are
furnishing the correct information to the
farmers. Due to this soil testing technology, the
fertilizer consumption and crop production are
increasing continuously and NPK ratio in the
state is also improved in a balanced manner.
6 Social/environmental/ other benefits The adoption of soil test technology has
improved the farmers income by increasing
their crop production and save the
environmental soil pollution, improve the soil
health.
7 Status of commercialization/ IP rights
etc.
Looking to the need of widespread soil testing
facility in the state, soil testing service in PPP
mode has also been promoted by Govt of India
and some private entrepreneurs have shown
their interest to start the soil testing service in
the state.
8 If commercialized, name and addresses
of the firms/ entrepreneur
9 Any special requirement for its
successful realization; any other
standards etc.
Soil testing by standard procedure adopted by
all over the country is the basic requirement
based on which the technology is generated.

photosynthetic pathway for substantial increased grain yield
9. Development of hybrids in rice, maize and vegetable crops for this region.
10. Development of seed quality testing
11. Rainwater harvesting mechanisms for better land and water management
12. Improved agronomic practices for increasing productivity
13. Improved entomological management for important major pest prevailing in the state
14. Improved pathological management for important major diseases prevailing in the state.
15. Improved post-harvest management for value addition.
16. Impact analysis and natural resources management for improved productivity.
17. The major thrust has to given to generate technology for less labourer intensive rice
cultivation, especially for crop establishment, weed and other cultural managements.
18. The emphasis needs to given to maintain the soil health. Major research needs to be carried
out to monitor the soil chemical properties especially pH which is lowering in many areas.
The site specific balanced nutrients schedules and integrated nutrients management models
need to developed on priority research basis.
19. The study is needed to quantify the emission of green house gases under different methods of
rice cultivation with reference to impact of climate change scenario.
20. Enhancing the productivity of upland rainfed system through appropriate agronomical
interventions
21. Increasing the input use efficiency through precision use of inputs with the adoption of high-
tech system in agriculture.
22. The water use in rice is serious problem, moreover aerobic rice and SRI irrigation
management schedule needs refinement and feasibility. The alternative systems is also
needed for rice production to increase water use efficiency without deteriorating yield.
23. The rice varieties (inbred and hybrids) need to evaluate for nutritional value and under
different situations having high yield potential and resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses.
24. Rainwater harvesting mechanisms for increasing productivity of rice and rice based system.
25. Impact analysis and natural resources management for improved productivity and livelihood
security through rice based cropping system.
26. Stem borer incidence is increasing in kharif and summer season rice crop. So this wide
sprayed problem may be emphasized in the future research planning.
27. New pathogens are appearing with the changing climatic conditions, however the technology
needs to be generated according to occurrence of different diseases.
Natural Resource Management:
1. To generate technology for less labour intensive cultivation of different crops, especially for
crop establishment, weeds in experiment and other cultural practices.
2. The emphasis needs to given to maintain the soil health. Major research needs to be carried
out to monitor the soil physic chemical properties especially pH, as it going is which is down
towards acidity in many areas. The site specific balanced nutrient schedules and integrated
nutrient management models need to developed on priority research basis.
3. The study is needed to quantify the emission of green house gases under different methods of
rice cultivation with reference to impact of climate change scenario.
4. The productivity of upland rainfed eco-system is very low, therefore appropriate agronomical
interventions is needed in this system especially to improve the water retentions in the field,
reduction in evapo-transpiration and weed and nutrient management practices.
5. The input use efficiency will be the major constraints in coming decades however, study is
needed on precise use of inputs with the adoption of high-tech system in agriculture.

6. The water use in rice is serious problem, moreover aerobic rice and irrigation management
schedule in SRI systems needs refinement and feasibility. The alternative systems is also
needed for rice production to increase water use efficiency without deteriorating yield.
7. The rice varieties (inbred and hybrids) need to evaluate for nutritional value and under
different situations having high yield potential and resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses. The
AICIP Agronomy programme is mainly concentrated on irrigated ecosystem. The
programme need to re-orient on rainfed ecosystem also.
8. Development of rainwater harvesting mechanisms for increasing productivity of rice and rice
based system.
9. Impact analysis and natural resources management for improved productivity and livelihood
security through rice based cropping system.
10. The soils of the state are highly diverse and variable type which needs to be monitored
closely. There is high soil variability with in the 100 meter along the slope comprises from
light to heavy textured and clear cut differences in their various physico-chemical properties.
Hence, soil mapping for each village covering entire state would be the primary aim to
delineate the nutrient management.
11. Nutrient problem of Chhattisgarh area is more prone to the secondary and micronutrients
which needs to be studied in detail. Secondary & micronutrient will be delineated and their
management based technology will be generated.
12. Looking to the needs of soil quality, and environment management organic farming needs to
be enhanced.
13. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) will needs to be evaluated under long term fertilization as
well as tillage schedule under different cropping system at regional level for sustaining soil
quality and productivity.
14. Similarly identification and simultaneous quantification of rice based cropping systems
under different management practices for their role in emission of GHGs.
15. Accessibility to pure water is continuously being limited by use of heavy doses of
imbalanced fertilization, agro chemicals viz., pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and also
PGRs which enters in water body through soil which affects the soil environment as well
as microflora . Suitable strategies are to be developed to prevent soil as well as water quality.
16. Identification of new rice traits from rice germplasm (approximately 25,000) for efficient
utilization of native phosphorus and under various problem soils.
17. Assessment of heavy metals.
