P0507 - Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than
Expeted
!"#-II Tro$%le Code Tehnial #esription
Idle Air Control &IAC' System RPM Higher Than Expeted
(hat does that mean)
This P0507 code is one that's sometimes triggered on vehicles that have electronic throttle control.
That is, they don't have a regular throttle cable from the accelerator pedal to the engine. They rely
on sensors and electronics to control the throttle. In this case, the P0507 DT !diagnostic trouble
code" is triggered #hen the P$ !po#ertrain control module" detects an engine idle speed that is
greater than the desired !pre%programmed" &P$. In the case of '$ vehicles !and possibly others" if
the idle speed is over (00 rpm higher than e)pected, this code #ill be set.
Potential Symptoms
$ost li*ely you'll notice the idle speed is higher than normal. There are potentially other symptoms
as #ell. +f course, #hen trouble codes are set, the $I, !malfunction indicator lamp, a.*.a. the chec*
engine light" illuminates.
Ca$ses
- P0507 DT trouble code may be caused by one or more of the follo#ing.
- vacuum lea*
,ea*ing air inta*e after the throttle body
/'& valve lea*ing vacuum
- faulty positive cran*case ventilation !P0" valve
Damaged1failed1dirty throttle body
2ailed /0-P system
2ailed I- !idle air controller" or faulty I- circuit
Possi%le Sol$tions
This DT is more of an informational code, so if there are any other codes set, diagnose them first. If
there are no other codes, inspect the inta*e air system for air or vacuum lea*s and damage. If there
are no symptoms other than the DT itself, 3ust clear the code and see #hether it returns.
If you have an advanced scan tool that can interact #ith the car, command the idle higher and lo#er
to see if the engine responds appropriately. -lso chec* the P0 valve to see if it's bloc*ed and needs
to be replaced. hec* the I- !idle air controller" if e4uipped, verify it's operation. If available, try
s#apping in a ne# throttle body to see if that fi)es the problem. +n 5issan -ltimas and possibly
other vehicles the problem may be fi)ed by having the dealer perform an idle air relearn procedure,
or other relearn procedures.
