OVERVIEW

e-Learning is a term commonly used to describe the delivery of

education and training using the internet or multimedia as a
medium. There are many ways e-learning is being utilised such as
schools putting course notes online and complimenting text content
with a range of media such as images and video.
The uptake in industry has been even greater, with the human
resource departments of large corporate businesses establishing e-
learning portals for training staff. These often include facilities for
liaising with a mentor and submitting projects online. e-Learning
enables flexible, cost-effective and standardized staff training.
The potential applications for e-learning are extensive, and when
applied in an appropriate manner by experienced parties, many
tangible benefits can be achieved.
Lava provides services in planning, graphic design, programming
and marketing.
USER BENEFITS
Unlike printed course notes, e-learning provides a much broader
range of tools at your disposal such as images, video, sound and
animation. It will gain your users attention, engage them via
interactivity and help maximize retention of information.
TRAINER BENEFITS
e-Learning gives trainers a very flexible method for delivering
syllabus. Students can tap into course content at any time and from
any location using a basic internet connection. This frees up face-
to-face class time to focus on more practical applications of the
theory. e-Learning also caters for students of varying abilities and
using tracking functions, trainers can identify students requiring
extra assistance.
ADMINISTRATOR BENEFITS
e-Learning provides great scope for education administration. By
creating a single online database, you can tap into a current and
central repository of information. This enables the administrator to
make live edits such as managing users, and to generate reports
(e.g. student progress, results) with speed and accuracy.
It is also possible to develop content management tools, enabling
the administrator or trainer to independently and instantly edit and
tailor course content. Using a simple and user friendly interface you
can make edits to text, images, links, etc. In comparison to a printed
publication, this is significantly more cost and time effective.

CASE STUDY MISSION: SPORT
Lava (Australia), in conjunction with our UK ally JDR Graphics,
recently completed the development of an online learning resource
for 11 13 years olds called Mission: Sport. We provided services
in planning, coordination, design and programming.
Our client, Loughborough College, is one of the UKs most
prominent sports education providers. Mission: Sport is being used
to deliver the theory component of a physical education course and
it includes features enabling students to view information, do
interactive activities, track their progress and make notes in a diary.
The project has received a terrific response and concluded with a
launch day which was attended by over 2,000 kids from
Loughborough and surrounding schools. A sample of Mission Sport
