Kanya-Kanyang Rizal

From the beginning of the story, the main characters played byMr. Davao and Villanueva
depicted a lot of questions regarding Rizal as the National Hero of the Philippines. There are a
lot of issues needed to be answered by Rizal himself. Their idea of portraying Rizal and the rest
of his family members were very effective.

The way each character answered the questions thrown by the interrogators, Mr. Davao
and Villanueva, stimulated the interest of the viewers on what if the late Rizal and the people
around him answered that way. It was kind of realistic for me but of course there were different
versions on whom to believe to, especially on sensitive controversies that could change the life
and our perspective to the National Hero.

One important issue mentioned was the retraction of Jose Rizal from his works against
the Catholic Church. I admired on how the movie showed different sides of the story for viewers
advantage of scrutinizing the facts. From Father Balaguers point of view wherein Rizal really
retracted from his works to marry Josephine Brackenand the familys view thatRizal remain firm
to his words and principles against the Spaniards. This showed that even a national hero was
also human with weaknesses.

In this case, it was his love for Josephine Bracken. Even though Josephine really
insisted that Jo marry her and she cant even prove it with a marriage contract but for me their
love was genuine. Even though this love may be the reason of Rizals retraction, if it was true,
but it keeps Pepe hold on to live and be inspired in Dapitan where he was exiled.

Also, a question came to my mind while watching the movie: Alin ang mas matimbang
para kang Rizal: Pagmamahal sa Bayan? O Pagmamahal kay Josephine Bracken? This love
controversy could be a make or break for Rizal. The movie also showed that Rizals life was very
interesting and was not limited to his novels. One would anticipate on what will happen next
after every episode or title on the movie.
What I liked the most was Father Balaguers part wherein humor was incorporated on
how Rizal confessed thrice with a mass before his death day. It would twist the minds of the
viewers and what ifs would immerse.

In the end, the film showed that it is always good to use the benefit of the doubt to clarify
things and satisfy our needs of information. The interrogators, Mr. Davao and Villanueva, regain
the honor of Rizal as our National Hero with certainty. As what they said in the last part of the
movie, Habang may Plipinas, mananatili kang National Hero; habang may pera, manantili kang
nasa Piso. Viva El Rizal!
