One Womans Point o View: Medical Freedom For Al

By Yvonne Storkey

D
r Benjamin Rush, one of the people involved in the creation of the Declaration of Independence, wrote, Un-
less we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medecine will organize into an
undercover dictatorship.... To restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will
be to constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have no place in a
Republic.... The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for Medical Freedom as well as Religious
Freedom.
O
nce again, the foresight of the Founding Fathers is proved; the question remains, What should this special
privilege look like? The current system, with even relatively basic medical care costing more than most peoples
homes and annual incomes, together with punishing insurance premiums, is obviously not working. Many people are
simply not getting medical treatment at all, because they cannot afford to go to a doctor.
W
hich brings us to ObamaCare, the latest solution for medical care for all, and insurance companies which are
no longer allowed to exclude pre-existing medical conditions from coverage. I worked in the insurance industry
for 15 years, and the reason why insurance companies exclude pre-existing conditions is not because they are mean,
but because they cannot afford to include them and keep their premiums affordable. Insurance companies work on a
balancing act between the money they receive in and the claims they pay out. They rely on sufcient healthy people
who will not have to claim from them, subsidizing those who fall ill. Not being able to exclude pre-existing condi-
tions means that those people who need expensive medical care are guaranteed to apply for insurance, thus putting
the ratio of claimants to non-claimants into serious imbalance. Insurance companies are not registered charities, they
are businesses with a legal obligation to make prots.
S
o if the insurance companies cannot afford to provide the money for ObamaCare, maybe the government is mak-
ing up the shortfall? The trouble with that is that government funding is by denition nite, limited. With more
and more people being diagnosed with major illness, the need for medical care is unlimited, innite. Unlimited needs
faced with limited funding go together very badly. It is inevitable that some people - particularly older people - will be
allowed to die with little treatment, in order to help younger tax-paying people who have a better chance of contribut-
ing more tax dollars during their lifetime. Critically ill people will be sacriced, while accountants guess the odds for
survival.
I
have lived in a country with socialized medical care, and I can tell you categorically it is not the answer. There are
always more needs than there are funds to address them, long waiting lists for expensive treatments, and the quality
of care steadily deteriorates.
I
agree with Dr Benjamin Rush wholeheartedly, Medical Freedom for all is as essential as personal liberty and the
right to pursue happiness. But the way our society is currently established, with money as its god, means that any
paradigm of Medical Care is doomed to fail. Medical care needs to be lifted beyond nancial constraints altogether,
otherwise it is just another oppression for the poor. I do not yet have a clear vision of how this may be achieved,
although I do know there are a lot of dedicated vocational people in poor rural areas charging a pittance for their
high quality services, a kind of underground care system. But if capitalist-driven healthcare and socialized healthcare
are equally ineffective, isnt it time to think outside the box? How long are we going to let human life and health be
worth less than money?
S
cientist Richard Brumfield has a vi-
sion of making the idlyllic Hayfork
Valley a destination spot for those seek-
ing relief from ailments such as cancer
and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pul-
monary Disease). He has developed a
process utilizing hemp oil (from Can-
ada) and marijuana grown in certain
areas like Hayfork to extract a concen-
trated non-euphoric compound using a
cold, non-chemical organic process that
has a healing effect for the afflicted.
The result is a clear liquid with no psy-
chotrophic effects nor side effects that
helps patients heal and relieves their
suffering. The patient does not get high
and there is no reaction except a general
feeling of well being after a small dose
is put under the tongue 3 times daily.
This process results in a formula that
is totally organic with a rating lower
than 0.03% THC which by Federal law
(U.S. Code 21, subsection 1308.35(c)),
can meet exemption from controlled
substances made from THC and classi-
fied as a non-euphoric substance after
presenting rigorous scientific evidence
of its effect on humans. The oral ad-
ministration of the non-psychotropic
cannabis plant constituent cannabidiol
(CBD) is safe and well tolerated in hu-
mans, according to clinical trial data
published online by the journal Current
Pharmaceutical Design (Kings College,
London). Cannabinoids are a class of
chemical compounds which mimic the
actions of phytocannabinoids found in
the nervous and immune systems of
animals and that activate cannabinoid
receptors. Among a long list of other
benefits, cannabinoids exert palliative
effects in cancer patients by prevent-
ing nausea, vomiting and pain and by
stimulating appetite. In addition, these
compounds have been shown to in-
hibit the growth of tumour cells in
culture and animal models by modu-
lating key cell-signalling pathways.
Mr. Brumfield envisions guest quar-
ters throughout the Hayfork area where
patients can rest, breathe fresh moun-
tain air and drink the exceptional wa-
ters of Trinity while being treated. Un-
der this protocol, patients feelings of
depression and pain disappear and their
appetite is stimulated. Mr. Brumfield
believes Hayfork Valley could benefit
from legal cultivation and laboratory
processing & testing whereby patients
will have the freshest and most concen-
trated formula to imbibe. His formula
is being tested by physicians in Or-
ange County, Hawaii and at a School of
Medicine on the east coast. Full Spec-
trum Omega is a Phytocannabinoids
Medicine company & includes both
oral and topical. Non euphoric Phyto-
cannabinoids products are currently in
labeling and packaging stages. In Pat-
ent No.US 6,630,507 B1 issued: Oct.
7th, 2003 the abstract states in part,The
cannabinoids are found to have particu-
lar application as neuroprotectants, for
example in limiting neurological dam-
age following ischemic insults, such as
strokes and trauma, or in the treatment
of neurodegenerative diseases, such as

Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease and HIV demen-
tia. In a CNN video: Marijuana & Alzheimer Researcher Dr
Maria de Ceballos said: These findings that cannabinoids
work both to prevent inflammation and to protect the brain
may set the stage for their use as a therapeutic approach for
Alzheimers disease. When one considers the possibility of
making Hayfork a medical destination, look at Swtizerland.
Switzerland puzzles many in medical tourism as it keeps in-
creasing medical tourism numbers despite having some of
the highest prices in the world.
Lianne van den Bos of Euromonitor International explains,
The continued high prices in Switzerland, when compared
to neighbouring European countries, is offputting especially
for European tourists who see Switzerland as a high price
country.
But tourists coming from China, Asia and Middle East are
far more concerned about quality. Medical tourism in Swit-
zerland is seeing increased business from Brazil, Russia,
India and China and Middle Eastern countries. Health and
wellness tourism was one of the most profitable and grow-
ing tourism segments in Switzerland in 2012 despite high
prices and competition from other European countries hav-
ing similar natural landscapes such as Austria or Germany.
Medical tourism represents the fastest-growing health and
wellness category in Switzerland over the past five years
with around 5 % growth in 2012.
I
f the efforts of Mr. Brumfield and others pan out, mari-
juana cultivation for illegal activities may be a thing of the
past in Trinity county.

Cannabidiol (CBD)
With respect to the medical potential of
the cannabis, CBD may hold the most
promise for many serious conditions. CBD

believed to reduce the psychoactive effects

CBD/THC ratio are less likely to experi-
ence anxiety. CBD may also inhibit cancer

One Womans Point o View: A Healthcar Revolution
By Yvonne Storkey
I thought long and hard about suggesting in my last Point of View that Healthcare needed to be taken out of the nancial system altogether. In many ways it
sounds impossibly naive, not to mention difcult to structure or manage. But then I realized that our whole society has to lift itself out of money being its central
and most important aspect, or our species (and all others) will become extinct. If the whole planet only has value as far as its resources can be sold to make more
money, then in a very short time we will nish the job of poisoning our air, water and food supplies beyond our ability to survive.
Healthcare is the perfect place to start in removing our cultures focus on money. I dont think the American people realize that they are being deliberately made ill
and kept ill in order for the pharmaceutical companies to make their next billion. Maybe people are so used to the long list of side-effects attached to any drug that
they discount them as normal. There is nothing normal about suppressing one symptom by causing half a dozen more. And what those side-effects mean is that
once you start taking drugs, the Drug Companies can keep giving you more drugs to treat the side-effects, in a self-perpetuating process. After all, how can a Drug
Company make money if the population is healthy? It is in their interest to make you ill and keep you there.
Ably assisting them in this goal is the FDA. The FDA is not here to protect the American people, it is here to promote the Drug Companies interests. Coinci-
dentally, when top ofcials in the FDA nish their term of ofce, they almost inevitably walk into high-paying jobs in the pharmaceutical industry. Although
not elected by the American people, the FDA has nonetheless passed a law which says that only a drug can treat a disease. This means that if your friend recom-
mends you take an orange to heal your scurvy, a disease of vitamin C deciency, the FDA would say your friend is practising medicine without a licence, because
an orange is not a drug. The FDA could then imprison, ne, slander or legally harrass your friend into bankruptcy. Sounds unbelievable? Please believe it, because
it is happening every day, where dedicated people are nding herbal, plant and food cures for major incurable diseases like cancer, AIDS, MS, and they are being
systematically persecuted, stamped out, or forced to practise their healing outside American territory. Their only crime is to have found something which works
better than a pharmaceutical drug, which the Drug Companies cannot patent and make money on themselves.
The reason why pharmaceutical drugs have such limited success, is 1) they are chasing symptoms, not nding causes, and 2) research is reductionist, focusing on
isolating individual elements and compounds, and recreating them articially. The simplest chemical reaction within the human body actually involves such a
vast mesh of interlocking effects and interdependencies, where the same chemical can have completely opposite properties at different points in the chain, that it
is hardly surprising a reductionist drug is simply inadequate to t in, and causes more problems than it solves. Since it is the Drug Companies primarily funding
research, it is also unsurprising that reductionist methods are being perpetuated, even though they do not work.
Whole foods and herbs have been our natural source of sustenance and healing for millennia for a reason. The body is designed to keep itself healthy. Whole foods
and herbs contain the multi-diversity and complexity to help our bodies heal themselves.Even now, brave souls who are more interested in healing than the Sys-
tem, are nding food, herb and plant-based solutions to the major degenerative diseases like cancer, and the FDA is systematically ridiculing them or trying to
litigate them out of business. It is time we acknowledged the current healthcare paradigm is not working, and stopped permitting ourselves, friends and families to
suffer and die needlessly in the Drug Companies pursuit of power and wealth.
Trinity : Cancer Cure Capitol?
1st in a Series of Interviews:
Trinity County Patients
Yvonne - I first noticed a lump in my left
breast early in 06, but did not have the money
to visit the doctor, never mind treat it, so I let
it be: Id live or die. After 5 years I assumed
it was benign, although it continued to grow
slowly. In December 11 I learned of a program
offering free diagnosis, and after a biopsy I
was officially diagnosed as having a mucinous
carcinoma (cancer), in clinical stage 3A (I also
had lumps in the lymph nodes under my left
arm). I was prescribed chemotherapy, radical
mastectomy and radiation, but did not proceed
with them, despite a letter from the diagnos-
ing doctor telling me I would die if I did not go
ahead with the treatment. It seemed to me the
conventional treatments addressed symptoms
more than curing the disease, with question-
able success at that. Since I am lucky enough to
have a slow-growing cancer, I spent the years
since diagnosis researching my condition and
alternative treatments. I have tried many differ-
ent treatments within my very limited budget
which, from my research, have been success-
ful for other people. Unfortunately they did not
work for me. In the summer of 13 the cancer
on my breast started noticeably shrinking. At the
time, I was combining acupuncture, chiropractic
kinesiology (food-based cure through muscle-
testing) and working through emotional traumas
in my past. Unfortunately, in November 13 the
cancer suddenly spread radically through the
left breast, and became markedly more pain-
ful. This happened not long after I had to stop
the treatments because my seasonal job ended,
and I could no longer afford them. I believe the
stress of that was also a factor in the diseases
spread. I heard about NEPE 14 from a friend,
and started using the topical lotion on the 3rd
April, adding the oral elixir on the 6th April. I
am using the topical treatment twice a day, and
taking the elixir orally twice or three times per
day, depending on my work schedule (the elixir
has to be stored in a cold place - the freezer
was recommended - and I have no facilities for
that at work). Owing to a misunderstanding in
the prescribed amount to take, I used the first
bottle of elixir in one week. I was taking two
droppers-full of elixir each time, when I should
have been taking two full drops. There was no
euphoria or high even at that massive over-
dose, and it was comforting to know that it is
not poisonous in overdoses. The same certainly
cannot be said of chemotherapy and radiation.
The active spreading of my cancer stopped at
once. Before the elixir, I could feel a burning
sensation in my healthy cells as the cancer cells
took over, and this ceased immediately. In ad-
dition, the cancer is receding, very slowly but
surely: I can tell because the breast has more
natural movement returning to it, as opposed to
the immobile solidity of the cancer mass. Also,
the increased pain which began in November
13 ceased as soon as I started using the topical
lotion, even before I started taking the elixir.
Nearly 2 weeks ago I noticed a pea-sized
tumor at the bottom of the larger lumps under
my arm, which was painful. When I applied
the topical lotion specifically on that spot, it
stopped hurting at once, and shrivelled up in
under a week. The cost of cancer treatment is
something to which I am particularly sensitive,
since I live perilously close to the poverty line.
I am still using the original lotion container I
first bought, and there is probably a quarter of
the bottle left. I have been using the second
bottle of elixir, at the correct dosage, for over
3 weeks, with a quarter of the bottle still left. I
do not earn enough to be able to afford to pay
rent, if I dont work I dont eat, and yet I can
afford this treatment. It is making a noticeable,
benevolent difference to my cancer, in just a
short time. Although in an ideal world I would
take time off to recoup, I feel healthy and ac-
tive, and can continue to work and earn my
living during treatment. There must be literally
thousands of women on chemotherapy who
wish they could say the same.
Gerard - In 2009 I was included in Richard
Brumfields case studies. I suffered from gout,
chronic arthritis, hypertension, high choles-
terol, and joint inflamation. Due to previously
prescribed pharmaceuticals I was retaining a lot
of water and was very overweight. I used the
3 teaspoons of the oil daily with no change in
diet or exercise and I began to feel better right
away. When my gout flared, I simply soothed
the area with the lotion and the pain stopped on
contact and the gout was gone within 3 days! I
lost weight even though I continued to eat ice
cream daily as well as other fatty foods which I
craved. Within 6 months, I had lost 25 pounds
and the weight continued to come off until I felt
like lightning in a bottle! I felt that the oil supple-
ment maintains ones lymph glands and nodes.
It seemingly allows the body to turn fat into
muscle, much like a Fountain of Youth. Before
I was a walking disaster, could barely walk from
the gout. I had burned myself at a campfire and
I put some of the lotion over the burn and within
24 ours there was new skin beneath the burn
healing differently than I have ever seen before.
It also took the heat and pain away immediately.
My eye sight has improved and my opthamolo-
gist confirmed improvement of vision in my left
eye. In fact, my doctor of many years did not
even recognize me! He wanted to know what
could have caused it and I told him I was taking
a cannabis elixir for two years. I cannot express
how the weight loss and youthful feeling has
given me my life back.

Woodrow- On May 10th, I dis-
covered a sore on my chest. At first
I thought I had just gotten a bug bite
and that it had infected, but then it just
started getting bigger. By May 15th, I
had to leave for a road trip from Hay-

dull pain with a lot of pressure. I tried
using a gold hemp oil on it. I contacted
Richard Blumfield and sent him a picture
of it. He told me to try using some of the
topical lotion (Hemjoba Pain Relieving

and the pain was minimalized and the
mass began shrinking. Within days a

I would clean it at truck stops with just
water and apply the lotion that kept it
moist. The lotion appeared to be acting
like a bandage seemingly cleansing the
area of contaminants almost absorb-
ing them. No scab formed but rather
it healed from the inside out. After the
first week of using the lotion, there was

no pain at all. There was just a pink hole
that continued to appear as if it had been
washed and flushed. When I returned to
Hayfork, two physicians examined the
healed area and reviewed the pictures I
had taken to document the transforma-
tion. They told me that the growth had
been malignant melanoma-- a death

One Womans Point o View:
Trinity Health Car Central ?
By Yvonne Storkey
The same reasons that make Trinity County popular with tourists
apply to this county becoming a center of healthcare and recovery
from illness. Its natural beauty provides a perfect backdrop conducive
to recuperation - the healing power of nature has long been known.
However, that does not mean there is only the potential to rent out a
few cabins here, or ll up the off-season Bed & Breakfasts.
Being diagnosed with a major illness, particularly a life-threatening
illness, is a very big thing indeed. For most people, it will change their
whole life. We have a culture today which tends to tuck death out of
the way as something we dont like to talk about: as such, this could be
the rst time a person has to get up close and personal with the fact of
their own mortality. Even though intellectually, everyone knows they
will die, somehow we manage to live as if we will go on indenitely
- Ive heard it quaintly described as living as if we have another life in
the bank.
Once we have moved through the denial phase, another frequent
response is blame, of oneself or another, God or circumstance. Why
me, why now pity parties are hard to avoid. Personally, with a really
slow-growing cancer, I nd it hard not to blame myself for not having
cured it yet, after all these years. There is an irrational conviction that
if I just hit the right combination of treatments the cancer will vanish:
this despite the fact that many people die, even with apparently excel-
lent treatment and good prognoses. Rather like in a war zone, some
people die and some people survive, and apparently the only explana-
tion for which category you fall into is that it was your time.
And let us not forget the often painfully unhelpful response of family
and friends. In this world of the ruling Dollar, it is appalling how fam-
ily and friends can descend like vultures on roadkill, in anticipation
of an inheritance. Even without such overt abuse, friends often fade
away because they cannot take the reminder of their own mortality, or
do not know what to say to you to make it better. Family can become
overnight experts on your condition, and ruthlessly criticize your
choices for treatment. One of my personal favorites is my sister-in-
law, bless her, who is convinced I have a death wish, just because I do
not want chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.
Even if your nearest and dearest are supportive, it is a stressful time.
Mood swings are inevitable, for even the most cheerful person.
Although your own situation is in hiatus, life still goes on for depen-
dants and family, with its usual accompaniment of challenges and
dramas. It can feel as if you are carrying the world on your shoulders.
There is a strong evidence in alternative therapies that ones biology
reects ones biography, that is, that dis-ease in the body can be a di-
rect result of unprocessed emotional response to life events or child-
hood traumas. For someone who embraces this, there is the complex
and intimate challenge of facing oneself, exploring painful emotions
and trying to work through issues to a point of peace and acceptance.
At the very least, life-threatening illness tends to make one reect on
priorities - if in the worst case scenario I have little time left, is this
how I want to live my life? How can I bring greater meaning into my
days left? Whether my death is next week or forty years from now, how
do I want to be remembered?
So you can see, the counselling/coaching opportunities alone are end-
less. If Trinity were to become a center for health care, the housing of
people, and their physical care, are just the tip of the iceberg. Review-
ing ones priorities entails a seeking and opening up, an exploration
of dreams goals and lifestyle, which could mean anything from living
large risk sports to arts and crafts. There is no doubt Trinity Countys
economy could be revitalized year round by this.
