Abnormal liver function

The liver is an important organ found in both animals and human beings. It is re
sponsible for protein synthesis, detoxification, and biochemicals production. It
also stores glycogen, aids in the production of hormones, and helps in the red b
lood cells decomposition. The liver also produces bile, which aids digestion. Th
e liver is below the diaphragm.
There are times when the liver deviates from its usual functions. This condition
is referred to as abnormal liver function. It is caused by liver problems that
may hinder its normal operations. Mostly, it is caused by a fluctuation of the e
nzyme levels. These enzymes are generated by the liver. It is important to estab
lish the main cause of such changes in the enzyme levels. These abnormal functio
ns may lead to a liver condition known as cirrhosis. This condition is not treat
able and can lead to liver failure, which is a cause for alarm. Fluctuation in t
he enzyme levels is caused by the fat content in the liver. This is most common
in people with diabetes and those who are overweight.
Abnormal liver functions can also be a result of damaged liver cells. The discre
pancy in enzyme levels also results from tumors, toxins, and gallbladder failure
. Other liver ailments leading to fluctuation of enzymes include hepatitis C and
hemochromatosis. Symptoms that characterize liver malfunctions include discolor
ation of the skin is common and it is mostly combined with dark yellow urine and
yellow eyes. This condition is referred to as jaundice. Patients have low appet
ite and this account for their weight loss. Irregular bowel movement may also ac
count for an abnormal liver function. Breathing may become a task and the victim
may experience a swollen abdomen. Whitish nails that are curved also imply that
there is a looming liver problem.
Nose bleeding also accounts for liver problems. People may also notice that they
bruise easily. This shows that they are lacking enough proteins in the body. An
other symptom is frequent urination coupled with excessive thirst. These conditi
ons are referred to as polyuria and polydipsia respectively. Other symptoms incl
ude irritability, headaches, dizziness, depression, low libido, fatigue, and spa
sms. Abnormal liver function can be prevented. It is advisable to observe good h
ygiene, which includes thorough washing of hands after coming into contact with
dirt. Drinking of tap water while traveling internationally should be stopped.
It is also advisable to practice safe sex and stay away from drugs. It is of ess
ence to follow prescriptions to ensure that you are not introducing more toxins
to the body. A healthy balanced diet must also be administered. Sharing of perso
nal items such as razors must be stopped. Abnormal liver function can be detecte

n among others. If untreated, these abnormalities can lead to liver failure, cir
rhosis, low blood count, and kidney failure. These failures can be treated by be
d rest and an alcohol free life. It is advisable to drink lots of fluids and kee
p to a well balanced diet. Medications must be taken only when necessary.
