Dear Friends,
Once again God provided a miracle in slow motion for Advocates International. Thank you so very
much for praying with us over the past five months as we asked the Lords discernment for our new
Deputy !ecutive Director for the Glo"al #ouncil. I am pleased to announce that $uth $oss is the
answer to those prayers.
%any of you already know $uth& who serves AI as a "oard mem"er and representative of the
Glo"al #ouncil for 'orth America. (he served as the !ecutive Director of the #hristian Legal
)ellowship of #anada for more than a do*en years& and will "e moving into her new role with AI
immediately following the Glo"al #ouncil meeting in %unich. +e are greatly encouraged "y Gods
provision for AI and look forward to seeing how ,e will use $uth in this new role.
Southern Africa: Movement in Mozambique
Thank you also for your prayers for my April trip to (outh Africa& (wa*iland and %o*am"i-ue. Im
writing this letter on my drive "ack from %o*am"i-ue with Teresa #onradie and Denise +oods. God
"lessed us tremendously only yesterday in %aputo where we fellowshipped with ./
%o*am"ican attorneys from A%A#& the Associao01o %o0am"icana dos Advogados #rist1os.
Led "y our host in %aputo& %ateus %osse& A%A# officially "egan 2ust last year& and is already serving
the #hurch in %o*am"i-ue& "lessing attorneys and& most encouragingly& young attorneys and law
students& the future of A%A#. One young attorney in particular& Li*ete& shared her own e!perience of
leaving law practice and serving with 3+A% for one year in Tan*ania. At the end of that year& God
told her three times that ,e wanted her to go "ack to law practice. (he now works in the Attorney
Generals office and has a tremendous passion for all of Africa. I was "lessed to give Li*ete a copy
of No Higher Calling& our devotional for and "y lawyers. 4lease pray for %ateus& Li*ete& and all of our
"rothers and sisters of A%A#.
Surrises in S!azi"and
Immediately prior to our ./ hour visit to %o*am"i-ue& we traveled through the 5ingdom of
(wa*iland& where we met with 4astor %*wandile )akud*e& the Deputy #hairman of the lections and
6oundaries #ommission of (wa*iland. 6efore his government 2o" and pastoral ministry& 4astor
)akud*e was in private practice as an attorney. Due to the holiday
calendars& none of our contacts were availa"le& yet when we finally
contacted 4astor )akud*e& he had 2ust gotten off the telephone with
a cancelled meeting. As (am would have reminded me& that was
definitely a divine co7incident.
Doing Justice with Compassion
+e met twice and Teresa and Denise were especially encouraged
"ecause of the work of the #hristian Lawyers Association of (outh
Africa and their engagement in the elections. They plan to
network )akud*e with colleagues in (outh Africa and we encouraged him to consider his role as a
chaplain for a future Advocates (wa*iland. 4lease pray with him that God will raise up a new
generation of leaders in that mountainous and "eautiful 5ingdom.
Siritua" A!a#enin$s in South Africa % &e'ond
6efore our three day& 8997mile trek east of 4retoria& I attended the %arketplace Initiative of the
Glo"al 5ingdom 4artnership 'etwork in #ape Town. $enewing old friendships and making new ones&
the gathering was a tremendous "lessing. +e were reminded "y lias Dantas& G54' founder& of (am
ricssons role as one of the key catalysts for the formation of the %arketplace Initiative. This years
gathering included second generation leaders for the first time and ne!t year we meet together with the
4astors gathering in %iami. It is encouraging to see how God is using the G54' to strengthen the
6ody of #hrist around the world. The G54' pastors serve over .: million "elievers in their
congregations and networks of congregations.
+hile in #ape Town& I also met Gerhard #laasen& an ama*ing young lawyer in private practice whom
God is raising up to "e one of the ne!t generations leaders of #LA in (outh Africa. ,e and his wife&
Amrei& hosted me in their home and "lessed me with the opportunity to play with their si! wonderful
children. +hen I am traveling away from my own family& it is a great encouragement to "e
introduced to the kids as ;<ncle 6rent.= ven though we spent only a short time together& I feel as
though Gerhard is like a younger "rother.
One of the sweetest "lessings of (outh Africa is learning the meaning of ;kuiering&= pronounced> kai7
ring. It is an Afrikaans word that means sharing a meal and having fellowship& yet much deeper. On
my second night in 4retoria at the home of Teresa and Deon #onradie& most of the "oard of #LA
2oined us for dinner where we kuiered late into the night. 4lease continue to pray for all of our
colleagues in (outh Africa as they continue to serve the #hurch and their nation& especially
following their %ay 8 elections& their fifth since the end of Apartheid in.??@.

Christ und Jurist A9.@ #ongress. The theme of the conference is ;Truth&= and we will e!plore that
concept from legal& philosophical and theological perspectives. Thanks for your continued prayers
with us for safe travels to %unich and that all in attendance will encourage one another.
3our prayers and financial support continue to make it possi"le for us to encourage and
strengthen lawyers in fellowships like #LA of (A& one of the oldest& A%A# in %o*am"i-ue& the
newest& and future fellowships we hope for in (wa*iland. Thanks too for your continued prayers for the
Glo"al #ouncil meeting and discernment for us as $uth $oss and I "egin to re7launch the Glo"al
