Introduction and Review (4 minutes)

Do a short introduction and review to prepare the class with the previous day materials
and teachers. This introduction will go as follows:
 NT & KT: “Good morning students”
Students (Ss) “Good morning Matthew Teacher…”
 KT: “How are you today?”
 Ss “I’m fine, thank you”
 NT: “How’s the weather today?”
 Ss “It’s ________________”
 NT: “Ok, very good!”

Next, the KT will do a short review with what was studied in the previous class
 KT What did we study in textbook last class?
 SS Is this your cap?
 KT Right, we studied ‘Is this your cap?’ Let’s practice what we studied last
class?
Next the KT can go around the class and ask some students “Is this your __________?”
and the students reply “Yes, it is” or “No, it isn’t”

Look and Listen (10 minutes)

Have students open the books to page 72. Ask the students some very easy questions
about the picture
 NT Who is he?
 SS He is Minsu.
 NT Who is she?
 SS She is Julie
 NT Very good. Where are they? Are they in Canada?
 SS No. They are at the school gym.
Next, have the students watch the screen and have them listen very carefully to the pre-
dialog. Have some easy questions ready for the students after the dialog so they
understand the questions of ownership.
PRE-LISTENIN DIALOG:
1) Julie Let’s play badminton
Minsu Sorry, I can’t.
2) Minsu I have a cold
Julie That’s too bad..
3) Teacher Are you alright?
Lisa I’m sick
Next, the students will listen to the dialog between Julie, Minsu and Mina.
DIALOG
Julie Minsu, let’s play badminton
Minsu Ummm, sorry, I can’t
Julie Are you alright?
Minsu Oh, I’m sick. I have a cold.
Julie That’s too bad
Then we will ask some question about the dialog

 SS She is Julie
 KT Is she Minsu?
 SS No, she is Juile
 NT Who is he?
 SS He is Minsu
 NT What are they doing? Are they playing soccer?
 SS No, they aren’t.

 SS Yes, they are
 KT Good!! What does Julie ask to Minsu?
 SS Let’s play badminton
 NT That’s right. What does Minsu answer?
 SS Sorry, I can’t.
 NT Good. What does Minsu say?
 SS I’m sick, I have a cold.
Next, play he dialog one more time

Listen and Repeat (5-10 minutes)

Minsu That’s too bad
2) Julie Are you alright?
Minsu No, I’m sick. I have a cold.
3) Mina Are you alright?

Mina I’m hungry too.
Now, with the teacher’s help, the student’s practice the listen and repeat. After one time,
sthe student’s can be split up into groups (maybe boys and girls, or row-by-row). Then
after that, we can have two or three students attempt the dialog. The teacher can be there
to help them.
After the listen and repeat, we can practice the “Are you alright?” and the answer “No
I’m sick.” “I have a cold” answer.

Let’s Sing (10 minutes)

Time for the students to learn a new song. First the teacher will explain some aspects of
the song. After the explanation, the teacher will have the students listen carefully to the
song. After the children hear the song, the teacher can play the song again and the
students this time can sing along. After going through the entire song, the children can
be split into different groups; one group can sing the “Let’s play __________” verse and
the other group can sing the “Sorry, I can’t. Sorr!y” verse. We can also split the class
from the ‘question’ and ‘answer’ portion of the song. For another activity, we can
substitute words for badminton and basketball (using words like ‘baseball’, ‘soccer’)

Let’s Read (5 minutes)

We will open the books to page 75 and see the students can read and speak the names in
the book.
 NT Go to one student “Can you read this word?”
 Ss “Yes, it is badminton”
 NT “Good”. Go to another student. “Can you read this word?”
 Ss “Yes, it is baseball”
After all the names have been read, have the students match the objects with the objects
inside the picture.
Then the teachers can play the CD-Rom for the students to check their answers.

[Optional – If there is enough time – Powerpoint (10 minutes)

The powerpoint will review the sentences that we have studied in the chapter and have
the students go over some of the important phrases and new words
