PSI South Sudan sees a !ualified" talented and d#namic Candidate for the position of $ector
Control Specialist.
Background: %he &ational 'alaria Control Programme (&'CP) located in the 'inistr# of
*ealth" +irectorate of Preventive *ealth Services along ,ith other disease control programs. %he
&'CP has the overall responsibilit# of planning" implementation" reporting and monitoring of
malaria activities to ensure malaria program ob-ectives are achieved. %he &ational 'alaria
Control Programme (&'CP) has the ob-ective of reducing morbidit# and mortalit# due to
malaria.

Purpose:.. %he purpose of this position is to support the &'CP through provision of e/pertise
to the implementation of entomological surveillance and to update and revie, technical
guidelines on 00I& distribution" and other related vector control guidelines that ,ill support
implementation of an I$' strateg# for South Sudan. Provide an# other needed support on $ector
control issues.
%his position of the $ector control specialist ,ill be based in the 'inistr# of *ealth to provide
support to the &ational 'alaria Control Program and build the program capacit#. %he $ector
control specialist ,ill directl# report to the program manager and is accountable to the 'inistr#
of *ealth.
Specific tas:
Provide support to the &'CP in rolling out malaria vector control interventions.
1or closel# ,ith the &'CP $ector Control officer to provide guidance and select
representative sentinel sites for entomological surveillance
Support the program to develop a training guideline for entomological surveillance" in
line ,ith the 1*2 standard guideline.
Conduct entomological surveillance training for vector control officers and staff members
,ho ,ill be involved
Provide support to ensure a robust 3ntomological surveillance s#stem in the selected
sentinel sites through ensuring routine timel# and complete data collection" create and
regularl# update a data base for entomological surveillance.
%o support the vector control officer in consolidating and anal#4ing reports 5 data
received from the partners and States on monthl# and annual basis.
%o coordinate ,ith the &ational medical entomolog# and vector control officers for
ensuring corrective action based on anal#ses of reports
%o ensure" at all times" involvement of the national vector control officers in all
entomological surveillance activities and implementation of other vector control activities
to support build the national capacit# on $ector control
%o support the establishment of the entomological laborator# in the &ational reference
lab
Support &'CP to put in place appropriate policies" strategies" operational guidelines and
tools for integrated vector management ,ith focus on malaria and in line ,ith the 1*2
standards.
%o support '2* undertae a comprehensive situation anal#sis to establish vector control
needs" current capacities and an# gaps that need to be addressed.
Support the &'CP to 3stablish a functional multi6disciplinar# coordination mechanisms
for integrated vector management and advocate for vector control interventions among
e# staeholders

Qualifications and Experience:
Postgraduate !ualification in entomolog# or other field of vector control from a
recogni4ed universit#
8t least 9 #ears e/perience in malaria vector control
*ighl# effective management sills to assure timel#" ,ell6coordinated implementation
'onitoring and 3valuation e/perience
Person should have sill in operation of computer 5 various soft,are s#stems.
Should be proactive" ,illing to e/tensive travel and field visits.
