Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to Commission on Services

to the Aging

LANSING, Mich. Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Matthew Adeyanju, of Big
Rapids, and the reappointments of Jerry Irby, of Marquette, Kristie Zamora, of Flint, Jeffery Schade,
of Midland, and Harold Mast, of Grand Rapids, to the Michigan Commission on Services to the
Aging.
The commission is a 15-member body appointed by the governor to offer oversight on the
administration of state programs and priorities affecting older Michiganders. A majority of the
members must be at least 60 years of age and no more than eight may be from the same political
party.
This is a talented group of appointees and I am confident they will continue to ensure that more
older adults have the opportunity to live healthy and independent lives, Snyder said.
Adeyanju is the dean of Ferris State Universitys College of Health Professions. He previously
served as professor and chair for the Department of Social and Public Health in the College of
Health Sciences and Professions and as campus program coordinator for the Consortium of Eastern
Ohio Master of Public Health Program at Ohio University. Adeyanju earned a Ph.D. from the
University of Illinois. He will represent independents and replaces Shannon English.
Irby is retired from Prudential Insurance Co. and serves as a juvenile court diversion mentor for
Marquette County Juvenile Court. He has served on the Marquette County Commission and as
mayor of Marquette. He will continue to represent Republicans.
Mast is the president and owner of Harold Mast Consulting LLC. He has extensive experience in
health care and human service organizations, previously serving as the executive director of
Genesis Non-Profit Housing Corp. and in numerous positions for Pine Rest Christian Mental Health
Services. Mast served in the Navy and the Navy Reserves. He is a Kent County commissioner. Mast
earned a bachelors degree in economics and business administration from Calvin College and a
masters degree in health care administration and organization from the University of Iowa. He will
continue to represent Republicans and serve as chair of the commission.
Schade is the president and CEO of The Peplinski Group, where he oversees 10 long-term care
facilities and one assisted living facility. He previously served as the director of operations for The
Peplinski Group and administrator for North Woods Nursing Center. He serves on the board of
directors of The ProSure Fund, Health Care Association of Michigan and Healthcare Industry
Liability Insurance Program. Schade earned a bachelors degree in broadcast and cinematic arts
from Central Michigan University and completed the nursing home administrator program at
Michigan State University. He will continue to represent Republicans.
Zamora is the coordinator of arts, culture and film for Oakland County. She is the founding editor of
Prosper, an electronic newsletter for economic development and community affairs. She previously
served as the coordinator of exhibitions for the Flint Institute of Arts. Zamora earned a bachelors
degree in political science and art history from Kalamazoo College. She will continue to represent
independents.
Members serve three-year terms expiring July 28, 2017. Their appointments are subject to the
advice and consent of the Senate.
